Donuts handmade while you wait - there's nothing like it.

This is by far the best haunt in our neck of the woods. Actually, I think this one surpasses Universal HHN imho. The lines are minimal because they have entry times. Instead of waiting in line you're wandering around giant bonfires, taking pictures at photo spots, enjoying fire spinning entertainment and a DJ booth among food and drink vendors. I'm always raving about the static haunt structures. I don't want to do spoilers but the structures are incredible. The scare actors are always amazing. Everyone we drag here annually always make plans to come back. I can't recommend enough.

The sets in the forest were certainly amazing. It was so much fun to hang out there in the middle with the food, drinks, the music was great. It just wasn't scary enough. The actors were pretty tame and kind of boring. They didn't really make much, if any, attempt to make you actually jump and scream. They just kind of casual walked up to you, or slowly 'jumped' out from a corner, or just stood there as you walked by. Literally the only thing that made me "jump" was a surprise blast of air on my feet while walking through one of the sets. The Town was much better in that regard, but not by much, and again, didn't jump out from nowhere or yell and scare us at all.

    Exit/entrance of the waiting area.

Waited 2 hours past our appointment time (scheduled time 10-10:30 pm waited til 12:15 am) for a half hour of fun. Also parking lot closes at 9:00 pm so if you have a late appointment you have to show up super early anyway. Don't get me wrong there is plenty of stuff to do while you wait. For example, pay $15 for a beer, cider, or wine and $14 for a plain waffle. Negatives aside, the trail is very good with plenty of scares and the bonfires are pleasant to sit next to. There are some activities and they were doing a bake sale that night with good prices on treats ($5 a bag of cookies, candy, trail mix, etc and at the end of the night it was $1). Obviously it was Halloween night so it was packed, but still not overcrowded. I enjoyed my time because my friends are great to be around, but other than that too much waiting.

Ask the Community - Markoff's Haunted Forest

Is the town worth it? Is the town or trail better if had to choose?

If you are thrown into the trap door in The Town, and sob hysterically, do they allow you out to rejoin your group🤣?

Yes, they will. Believe me, it is NOT like McKamey Manor. That place should be avoided, unless you like pain and willing to be paid to withstand the horror they take you through.

Can you arrive before 7:00 just to walk around, get something to eat, play games etc?

We open the front circle at 6:45, so there is not much to do or see until 7 other then hang out in the parking lot.

If the tickets I wanted to purchase online just sold out am I still able to purchase the tickets when I get there? Please someone help!

It is my understanding that, if the time slots are sold out, they're sold out. Capacity is different in the Covid era.

Do you sell beer/wine at the event?

No we do not have license

What is the Town all about? Is it ok if I just go to the Town instead of any trails?

It’s a good warm up to the actual trails. I would suggest doing both if you want to get the full experience of the haunted forest. The Town starts with a scary walk through a cornfield where there are zombies and ghouls that will pop out and scare… Read more

I've never done The Town, only the trail (I've heard The Town isn't as good so I just stick with the trail).

There is a…read morecertain standard that any branded HP experience must adhere to, and the Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience is no exception. Located in Leesburg's Morven Park for the winter season, consider it an extension of Universal's Harry Potter World. We got our tickets online in advance. If you plan to drive, you also need to purchase a parking pass ($10 online) which was scanned at the entrance. The website noted that parking would cost more at the door, so it's best to buy in advance when you get your admission tickets. Parking attendants were standing by to direct us in and out of the lots. Tickets can be pricy during peak times - if your schedule is flexible, you can get bigger discounts for the late night slots. There was also a Black Friday deal during the holidays, so keep your eyes peeled for sales. When we arrived to The Village entrance, they scanned our tickets and we were welcomed in. Kudos to the ticket scanner and his attention to detail - he noticed that we had deluxe tickets and directed us to where we could pick up our souvenir tote bag and other goodies. There are several kiosks in The Village to grab drinks and food or make a bathroom stop. There's hot cocoa (catered to the various Hogwarts houses - your choice!), butter beer, and the common Harry Potter fare - fish and chips, meat skewers, etc., and other branded treats. I ordered the fish and chips which was hot and fresh and tasted just like it came from The Three Broomsticks at Harry Potter World. There's also a food stop (think quick and easy stuff - not hot meals) and restrooms at the midway point if you need sustenance. Note: It is a porta-potty situation here, so plan accordingly. Before you begin your trip through the Forbidden Forest, there's a mini gift shop to buy robes, wands, umbrellas, and other gear to face the elements. There's a larger gift shop at the end to purchase additional souvenirs. Once you make it through the first gift shop, the true exploration begins. The lights, sounds, and showpieces fully immerse you into the Forbidden Forest, and I love how it walks you through the various scenes in the books/movies. You stay on the path and go at your own pace, and there are even free interactive portions - engage with a Hippogriff, conjure a patronus, or have a duel with a friend - there were even wands on loan for these activities. There are a few other magical stations to wave your own wands and show off your magic (find most of these by the break area/food stop at the halfway point). Pro tip: While wands make it more fun, you can actually just wave your hand sans wand, if you're a really powerful witch/wizard ;). We spent a couple hours here and loved it. Even with the "limited availability" ticket warnings on the website for popular timeslots, it never felt too crowded. They do change up the installations each year to keep you coming back. I don't know that I need to make this an annual visit, but I do appreciate that this high quality Harry Potter experience exists and is a lot closer to home. For all the Harry Potter fans out there, this is worth a visit.

My friend and I got the instant access pass for an extra $25 and to be honest, it was worth every penny. With it being spooky month, we knew it would be jam packed. The line got general admission was ridiculous. The line to express access was better but still pretty long. Instant access allows you to skip the line and go straight to the entrance of the haunted house. The music was too loud to hear the instructions but I guess the gist is, don't run and don't touch the actors. I loved the design and themes of most rooms. Some left a little to be desired. I do wish there were a little more actors and better system of separating the parties. There were quite a few times we were able to see ahead so we knew what was coming. My favorite times were any moment where the actors interacted with the guests, like when we were chased. After the haunted house, you're able to buy merch and take photos. Although we didn't do the escape room, I liked that there was an option to do so this adding to the whole Halloween experience. All in all, I enjoyed my time at the House of Horror. While there could be some improvements with setup, I would still recommend it for others wanting to check out a local haunted house.

I have been to a lot of haunted houses and trails at the beginning of October, and many places tend to be understaffed. Haunted Hollow was fully prepared and had tons of actors scattered throughout the trail and scares at all different levels (crawling, jumping down from a height, hiding behind props, etc.). They did a good job of keeping groups spread out through the use of a timer. We didn't encounter any other groups until we got closer to the end and made a wrong turn in one of the mazes. In the waiting area, we noticed they had a giant fire pit. Since the weather was nice, it was not in use, but will be great for cooler fall nights. It would be nice if they would add some things to the waiting area since it was somewhat dark. Maybe some additional lights and photo spots would be nice. The trail itself has some uneven spots and steps up or down that can be difficult to see so wear good shoes. It would be great if they marked these spots with glow in the dark paint or reflective tape so no one falls. If you're looking for a reasonably priced haunted trail that isn't far off from NOVA, Haunted Hollow is worth the drive.
