Halcyon Yarn is one of my favorite yarn shops. It's definitely an old school knitting and weaving…read moreshop, still stocking a lot of yarn on cones, and having disproportionately more fine, synthetic, and cotton yarns as compared to a shop more focused on knitting -- because knitters tend to favor thicker, quicker animal fiber and synthetic yarns while weavers tend prefer lighter, finer cotton yarns. That said, they carry a respectable variety of classic New England wool knitting yarns -- Bartlett, Harrisville, Peace Fleece, Jaggerspun -- and a few of the trendier luxury yarn lines -- Debbie Bliss and Malabrigo, among others. But what I like most about them is actually criticized by other reviewers. As a male knitter, the thing I despise about visiting yarn stores elsewhere is the constant attention I get. There are stores I have walked out of without buying yarn, never to return, because the staff have stalked me around the store as I browsed as if they're afraid I will snatch a hank of cashmere and bolt for the door. At Halcyon, they nod at me when I walk in and then leave me alone to shop, trusting me to come up to the counter if I have a question. Other shops treat me as a freak or an idiot because I'm a male knitter; the staff at Halcyon trusts that I know what I'm doing. That said, every time I have had a question, the staff have been incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, and every time I visit the area and can make time, I visit Halcyon.

Loves the huge selection of comedy yarns and specialty luxury yarns like silk n cashmere. Friendly staff that let's you shop without interruption or able to help anytime you are ready. They have mail order too so the catalog will be great to order from. Huge selection of spinning and weaving yarns, fibers and tools n looms. What a great place. I didn't want to leave.

I had the opportunity to visit the Moss Galleries because my neighbor across the street is an…read moreartist and had an opening there. So close to home! It's a really nice, large space. There's a huge carpet in the middle of the room (at least with the current setup) but I can see how artificial walls could easily be brought in to make even more wall space. Having said that, it would also be a great space for sculptures. The woman working at the desk seemed very friendly, though I did not take the opportunity to chat with her much. I do feel like it's a bit of shame it's in the middle of a strip mall next to Shaw's, but we can't all land primo real estate I guess. Having said that, it's a perfect opportunity to drop by once every couple weeks before/after your grocery shopping. I believe I will do this in the future!

If you want to see (mostly) Maine artists' work, well-hung and well-lit, Elizabeth Moss Galleries…read moreare the places to go. They are welcoming, not intimidating, and the Falmouth gallery has plenty of parking. The line up is always different at the Portland gallery than the Falmouth gallery. Both offer insights into Maine's artist community at the highest levels. Elizabeth is the right person to advise you on choosing art that works for you in your space-- office or home. Their framing services are top notch, but it's the art I go for. I make a point of visiting the galleries regularly. The shows change about once a month and even when I don't want to take any piece home, I do find the work intriguing.

In 2022 I placed two orders with 320 Ink and was very pleased…read more The initial communication and response was fast - faster than I was prepared for...but they were patient as I tried to answer their questions as quickly as I could - to at least match the speed of their response. I ordered Custom T-Shirts for my side business and loved the experience and product so much, I decided to order hats. The pricing options are quite reasonable if you are going to order around 100 pieces. I consider the following in my opinion; local business, turn around time and quality of material and printing. They have a cute location and friendly/nice staff, there to support your needs, whether they are your direct consultant or the person there covering. They have samples in the waiting lobby entrance area, where you can feel the quality of the different shirts and hat options. They also indicate whether they have a special deal happening with different product lines. For hats, we had. specific style in mind, even though they had recommended what is most popular with local craft breweries in the area, we found a fitted flex cap that was more of the quality and style we were looking for. The price point was a little higher, but I thought it was worth the upgrade. My clients and friends love the hats and shirts and I look forward to working with them again, when it's time to restock my logo wear. Thanks to the 320Ink team for amazing products and services!
