Welcome to one of two grocery stores in this town of 12,000 (Brookshire Bros. is the other. There may be more off of Main Street, but I don't live here, so I plead ignorance.). Typical store, typical items, looks like typical prices.
My in-laws go here for most of their food, and they're not the only ones; this is a busy store. Being from outside of the Lone Star State, I saw some national brands (Kraft) and some only-in-Texas brands (Doguet's roux, Big Red soda). Clerks appear to be helpful, and are certainly friendly. It's not a discount grocery store, and Dollar Tree on the other side of the shopping center doesn't have much food, so don't expect to pay rock-bottom prices.
My big question now is how Market Basket will do when the Walmart becomes a Super Walmart, featuring groceries that do have rock-bottom prices. The one on 11th Street in Beaumont still appears to be doing good business with the Super Walmart near Parkdale Mall, so it may be okay. This being the South, it's not an issue of being anti-big-chain (how do you spell Berkeley?) but loyalty to the store you've always gone to. read more
