We expected to leave it for hours or even days, but Mark was there and immediately took care of it in his on site workshop. He handled the ring with so much care and skill, restoring the delicate band back to its original shape. He also cleaned and polished it beautifully, and now it looks brand new again. My husband bought me a necklace there and the chain was too short, so at first I went in to exchange, but they wanted $300 for a gold chain! I already had a nice one, so when I asked to return it they said no since it was after 7 days( it was 16 days after purchase) which I assumed would be fine since most stores is 30 days. Just went in and tried to use the credit and they quoted me 250$ more for a ring design commercially available than another place I got a quote from. So angry! read more

This review is for jewelry repair, specifically increasing my wedding ring up one whole size. The entire process was very easy as the staff sized my finger and then immediately gave me an estimate based on the cost of platinum. To complicate the repair, I also have an engraved quote on the inner part of the ring that I wanted to remain. Happy to report that the repair went flawlessly as my ring now fits perfectly and the inner quote was untouched. I had MSD apply a rhodium plating to my wedding set, as the last "coating" I had done over 4 years ago was wearing off. I have a nickel allergy, and since my wedding set is white gold, I get a terrible rash on my ring finger. Anyway, Mario did a beautiful job with my rings and I thought the price was very reasonable. At first, after I picked it up (with only a couple day turn around-wow), I still was getting an irritation. I was concerned that maybe the coating wasn't thick enough. I called MSD and they were so helpful and nice. Mario did another layer for me at no cost, and since then, it's been wonderful. My rings look brand new and no irritation. I wish I could remember the lovely lady's name who helped me. She is very professional and accomodating, as well as pleasant, which, is sometimes hard to find these days! read more

My great grandmother who is 92 years old wears her life alert button on a gold chain. Her clasp to the necklace broke so we set out to Shimizu design, as she heard they do wonderful work. We were kindly greeted by the two females working the counter, talked to us for a few mins, and got Mark out of the back. He took a look, gave us a few different options. We chose to go with the cheaper option since money was a little tight. He took it in the back, and 5 mins later he comes out with the necklace clasp replaced and cleaned the entire necklace. I stopped by to have my wedding ring adjusted (I had 2 small balls welded onto it previously instead of cutting it to resize it, but I'm pregnant and it's getting tight). The gentleman sanded them down and cleaned it on the spot and didn't charge me!! I left a band to get plated and they quoted me less than the last time I had it done years ago in Southern California. LOVE this shop! My fiancé bought my ring there a couple months ago. Laurie (sorry if spelled wrong!) helped him pick out the perfect one! He was able to choose a diamond and place it on the band he wanted. After proposing 2 weeks ago, we discovered the ring was a tad bit too big. So, I took it to get it sized down. Laurie was so patient with me as we tried to figure out the correct size. They were so gracious and genuinely happy for our us and our engagement. Mark was able to finish sizing it down by the next day and they had clearly polished it up and had it ready to go. It fits like a dream! Mark was a family friend of my dear late Uncle. I live in Washington DC, and my cushion cut stone was loose in my engagement ring, and I was missing 2 small stones in the halo setting. I visited two of my local jewelry shops, and they quoted anywhere between 2-3 weeks. I love my engagement ring. I wear it everyday, and literally do not wear any other jewelry, so for me, this is a LIFETIME to be without it. Upon the suggestion of my mother, we spoke to Mark's wife Lori, whom not only offered to squeeze us in without an appointment, but to also finish fixing my ring over the weekend while we were in CA. Upon returning from a weekend in Mendocino, I found the prongs and setting of my ring were completely reset, and instead of 4 prongs, it now essentially holds eight. Lori explained Mark and his business partner consulted, and felt it was the best way to preserve my stone -- and I couldn't LOVE it more. His work is timeless, beautiful, honest and affordable. THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO!!! I was referred here by my friend Nichole who owns Discount Alley in Sebastopol. I had two rings I had stepped on in my purse and were bent to a holy mess. Not only did they fix them, but they did it in ten minutes while I waited, then charged me $15. REALLY!!!! I thought I heard 50 which I was ready and willing to pay but 15. WTF!!! Let me add that one of the rings had been fixed 2 other times by a jewelry store in RP next to CVS. It broke not once but twice. And before that we went to a jeweler in Cotati for 15 years next to Oliver's that took in stolen jewelry from a friend of ours who had a son who was an obvious 18 yo drug addict, he sold them the items, and the store said they never took them in. Let me start by stating I'm very particular when it comes to my custom ring designs. I'm Sicilian, 6'3 and big hands, and many of the rings I've had made are large and complex (think superbowl rings). After spending close to eight years looking for a new jeweler, May word of mouth path lead me to Mark and his team. I was having a custom wedding band designed that was, as is common with me, large and complex. The type of ring the NFL has Tiffany's or Jostens. With the help of some sketches, consultations and a replica ring to go off of, we began our journey and when I picked up the finished product yesterday, I couldn't be happier. The craftsmanship, quality and service made this experience one I'll be frequenting again for my designs.
