The dental assistants have always been so gentle and caring and the providers have always guaranteed their work. This year I have decided to get a secondary, and it has been a complete nightmare to get the claims to go through. I have done everything asked of me as I am a medical biller and closely watch my claims and bills. I understand dental and medical are different but COB, contractual adjustments etc all work the same way. My secondary says they still have not received a claim although I spoke with Julie who said it was sent over. I paid over $700 and today asked olivia if I can at least find out what MY child's primary assigned as patient responsibility then had a smart remark comment "well do you not have your EOB." I mean if I did I wouldn't be asking, but then try to intimidate me into thinking I still have over $1,000 bill. Because you don't want to provide me what primary allowed. Of course Laurie took over the call calling me rude; however, they can pull that call and find out there was no rudeness, but again a simple question then. At the end of the whole thing they can't find it they'll have to go search for it. I mean honestly rather than having me on a long hold getting your staff worked up you could have just said "hey I'm sorry we misplaced this will get back to you as soon as we find it." Not turn me into the bad guy. I'd love for the administrators to pull that call so they can listen for themselves. Because of this experience I will be looking for another dentist I know will be needing more things done in the future and I can't afford all these hours in the phone.

At each appointment, I made it clear that I wanted to pay my balance in full before leaving to avoid any unexpected charges in the future. Unfortunately, I recently received an email informing me that I now have an outstanding balance due to a failure in their computer system. These charges date back as far as 2024 and were never brought to my attention at the time of service. I am extremely disappointed with how this situation has been handled. The lack of communication and accountability reflects poorly on the office's professionalism. Additionally, the staff member I have been working with has shown little concern for resolving the issue or addressing my concerns. As a result, I will no longer be returning to this facility. One of my friends experienced a very similar issue with this same Farmington location, which suggests this may not be an isolated incident. Because of these experiences, they have lost two families as patients. I believe this office needs to improve its billing practices, communication, and customer service. Patients should not be held responsible for years-old billing errors that resulted from the office's own system failures.

We were told our 10 year old needed "sealants" on her molars. I asked the hygienist why she didn't disinfect her teeth before applying the sealant and she said, "they don't need to be disinfected, she just had her cleaning." I said, "But her mouth has bacteria in it. Aren't you just sealing the bacteria in if you don't clean the surface first?" She said, "No, the sealant keeps the teeth clean." I figured the sealant must have some sort of antibacterial property in it, because I am naive and didn't want to argue because I'm not the expert. My daughter needed teeth pulled. We went in on a Thursday. They put the nasal hood (nose mask) over her nose and turned the machine on. It immediately beeped and shut off. The dentist asked the hygenist why the machine wasn't on and she said, "we ran out." He asked if they have more and she said, "no, we won't get more until Monday." We were still charged for laughing gas even though they didn't even have any in their office. Fast forward to last week. We came in for our second cleaning here and guess what? They said my 10 year old had a cavity on the surface of her molar UNDER HER SEALANT. They said wasn't visible in person, they said they could only see it on the x-ray. I asked to see the x-ray and it had a bright red mark on it where the "cavity" was. I asked to see the x-ray without the red mark so I could see the cavity and the hygienist said, "that's not possible." Yeah, okay. The hygienist said, "Ok, for the three cleanings it's $300." I said, "But we have insurance." She said, "I know, that's how insurance works." I said, "What exactly did unsurance cover?" She said, "Nothing. You have a copay plan. $300 is your copay." I said, "But last time it was $25 per child. That was this year. This appointment should be covered since we already paid our copay." She said, "You don't know how insurance works." Now, I'm not an insurance salesman but I was pretty sure I wasn't totally stupid so I said, "Please check again." She did not check again but had another hygienist come in and tell me the same thing. I kept pushing back because they kept insisting that our insurance doesn't cover anything even though they are in-network, even though we had coverage earlier this year and still have active insurance. Finally, one of the receptionists came in and said the same thing- this is how insurance works, you have to pay the copay which is the full price of the appointment. I said, "Then what does insurance cover?" And she said, "It covers two cleanings per year after you pay your copay." I said, "Ok, this is our second cleaning this year. We already paid our copay. This should be covered. Will you please check again?" She said, "No, this is just how your insurance works." Another receptionist came in and again, told me the same thing. I said, "Ok, I'm going to call my insurance," and she said, "WAIT! Let me go to my desk and see what's going on." Then she came back and said, "Oops, you're right. It's all covered, you don't owe anything." I don't know if they were going to charge me AND our insurance. I, like a naive idiot, scheduled my daughter to have her cavity filled on Monday. They were pushing for us to give my daughter a prescription medication which WE had to pick up from Walgreens then come to the appointment 30 minutes early so they could "administer" this medication to her, and they would charge us $25 to administer it. I asked if I could give it to her myself. Of course not, how would they make money if I give it to her myself? I said, "okay, we aren't going to use the medication." I even texted them last Friday to tell them that we were not going to use the medication and would be there on time, not 30 minutes early as we were not going to need them to administer it. We arrived on time. My daughter said she didn't want laughing gas. The dentist filled the cavity but didn't adjust her bite after the filling so her teeth hit the filling every time she chews. When I went to check out, they said it was $134. I said, "Does that include the medication?" and she said yes. I said, "my daughter didn't use it." At first she said they had to bill me for it even if she didn't end up taking it and I said, "No, we didn't even fill the prescription. I texted the office on Friday and told you that." She said, "Ok, I removed it from the bill." I said, "Wait, did you charge us for laughing gas because she didn't use that either." OF COURSE THEY HAD CHARGED US FOR LAUGHING GAS. And I would have never known if I didn't ask because they didn't itemize their receipts. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. I cannot believe they have a single positive review. Take your kids someplace else. :)

It was frustrating, but not a huge deal, and I decided to give them another chance. Unfortunately, the second experience was far worse and is the reason we will never return. I brought my two sons (ages 8 and 5) in for dental work scheduled at the same time in rooms next to each other. After getting a second opinion at Boardwalk, Dr. Doll told me my kids didn't need as much work as another dentist had recommended, so I trusted that and moved forward with treatment there. My 8-year-old had work done with local numbing, and my 5-year-old was given oral sedation. I was very nervous about sedation and clearly expressed those concerns to the dentist and staff. I was repeatedly reassured that my 5-year-old would never be left unattended--that he would be continuously monitored with a pulse oximeter and that a staff member would have eyes on him at all times. Initially, I stayed with my 5-year-old and checked on my 8-year-old periodically. Then things went south with my 8-year-old. After the dentist said he was finished, my son was in significant pain--pain he did not have before. Despite my concerns, I was told it might just feel "different." After a long time of my child crying, the dentist admitted he likely should have done a root canal (as the first dentist had suggested) and would need to re-numb him and perform one. During this time, I stayed mostly with my 8-year-old, who was understandably very upset. Meanwhile, my 5-year-old--who was supposed to be constantly monitored while sedated--was left alone long enough to severely chew his tongue, lip, and cheek. He was sent home with significant injuries inside his mouth. Over the next few days, it got even worse. He was in so much pain that he barely ate for nearly a week. Two days after dental work, it developed into thrush. When I contacted the dentist after hours and sent photos, I was told it was thrush and was advised to start antibiotics. That didn't sit right with me, so I double-checked. Both a quick online search, and a consultation with a physician confirmed that antibiotics can actually make thrush WORSE. We were able to get an antifungal medication prescribed elsewhere, which resolved the issue after a few more days. As a result of this experience, my child missed a full week of school and was absolutely miserable in pain. Throughout all of this, there was no accountability and no effort made to make things right. When we left their office with a chewed lip, cheek and tongue, I was told Dr. Doll would call to check on my son the next day and that also never happened. This entire experience was not only frustrating--it was alarming. I would not trust Dr. Doll or this office with my children's care again. Kyla Badger
