We had a tree fall on our house during hurricane Ian. Mark Kaufmann was the first roofer that had time to go put a temporary tarp on the hole, I had to sign a work agreement for this to happen which honestly made me very nervous because I have not been through damage like this before. I was worried my insurance, Citizens, would not cover the roof and I would be locked into an amount that I could not handle for roof replacement. Well, citizens did deny the roof, but Mark Kaufmann helped me fight it for months so it was wonderful to have them on my side. Tiffany and Sadie Kerrick were super helpful in assuring me that we would get the roof covered and make it all happen. It took many months of back and forth with the insurance company but we finally got approval for the roof and the actually process of the tearing off of the old roof and putting on the new metal roof was as smooth as it could be. the whole team was very responsible and hard working and made a bad situation into a good one. I am very appreciative. William Laity was also great to work with and also Josh, production manager. consumer beware!!!! had them come out to our home to do a repair post Ian last year. they sent out a male and female to do the fix last August. Everything was fine until Milton came through last week and we had shingles come off our roof. What are the odds it's the SAME shingles that were just repaired from Mark Kaufman?! Had another company come out today to give us a quote and to look at the damage and sure enough, crappy job confirmed and also added they did not even remove the damaged shingles, they just nailed them down again!! They have no responsibility what so ever for it. So.. I hope they feel the $900 was worth loosing a future customer that would need to replace a whole roof at some point! Horrible people! Roof replacement. The salesperson was rude and as a rule rarely returned phone calls. When we did speak her standard answer no matter what my request was. Rarely received call back by the office staff. I do acknowledge that Hurricane Ian affected all of us. However long after the storm had passed, communication did not improve. Lastly, they caused over $1800 damage to my AC unit and refused to reimburse me. I have spoken to a Florida attorney and was advised I should have been reimbursed. The Mark Kaufman person I spoke with blamed the damage on the age of my house. Why blame my house? According to them the damage was caused because the location of the portion of the AC that was damaged was in the wrong location. One of the worst experiences I've had. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I would have given this company a zero star if allowed. read more

I would highly recommend NOT USING Mark Kaufman Roofing based on my recent interactions with their sales staff. The sales staff came out to look at my roof and wanted to submit a claim on my behalf for my roof to my insurance agency. I told them I would think about it and they could follow-up with me the following week. The salesman called me back and I returned his call and indicated to him that I decided to have an "Independant" adjuster file the claim for me. However, I asked him to submit his bid for my roof to be re-shilgled. He them asked me two questions 1) about price and 2) about warrenty. He asked which was more important to me. I responded and said, both. At that point he said to me by saying that he would submit the bid to my email address. After a few days I received no bid - so I texted "Brain" the salesman and asked him where the bed was that he said he would submit to me. His text response to me - and I quote (Not interested, thanks for the opportunity). So, if anyone from Mark Kaufman reads these reviews - one has to wonder WTF is that about? Now, I'd say that is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL !! Now, if that is how they do business overall by throwing what I would consider a temper trantrum response by not getting their way - I'm darn glad I didn't decide to use them to start with. Probably what really got to the sales guy was I had told himn that I had a very competitive bid around 14k. However, the lowest bid in my book is not always the best bid - so Mark Kaufman was still in the running for my business - that is until the salesman sealed my decision not to use them. read more

Kaufman replaced our tile roof that had been damaged in Hurricane Ian. We were impressed with the level of communication before, during and after the job was complete. As is typical with construction there were a few hiccups (one weather related and one due to a subcontractor delivering tile). In both instances the issues were promptly resolved. The workers were industrious and respectful of our neighbors despite having to work in very high temperatures. My neighbors were complimenting them, not complaining! read more

The salesperson was nowhere to be seen after the sale. The company did not deliver as promised - their motto "A job well done" is a farce. Very sloppy work and very unprofessional - their crews even broke 12+ pavers because of negligence that they still refuse to change. And, to top it all, the roof was leaking during the first storm after they had finished their work. Will not recommend them to my worst enemy. read more

The crew who actually did the job was absolutely great, no complaints whatsoever, they work hard, always on time, good quality, just great. The companies communication is just the worst you can imagine. Complaints: 1. Monday 16th 8am Brianna could not make picture of roof to wall: after that nobody came or called anymore, even though she promised 2. A promise by Amanda on 23rd : We are also going to take roof to wall photos the 10/24: nobody showed up or called 3. 2 Trucks with materials showed up a day before the job, without any notice (was glad I was home) 4. driver delivery trucks also complaints about communication issues Kaufman 5. planning of inspector went completely wrong 6. affidavit to county was filled out late and/or forgot 7. Promise was job done in 2 days, now after 3 days still not finished 8. Communication in general really bad after signing contract 9. Job start was first promised on Monday 30th, then Wednesday (by Keith) then finally Thursday (Kara) through various persons, who did not seem to know about each other 10. Robby told me Josh Barnes will call me, nobody called, so called myself (Nov 1st) 11. Antonio the roofing crew also complaints about communication issues 12. Amanda and Cheri do not answer emails, texts, or return phonecalls/voicemails not at all, or not in timely manner 13. Nov 2nd: Josh Barnes promised to call me back early in morning, but didn't so I called 10:30am 14. Main issue: too many people (total 9 so far) on 1 project, nobody talks with each other about status, in the end they all do their own thing 15. The only one who works as a team, is the Mexican team (with Antonio Perez) who does the actual job, on time, fast, and good work. Also don't talk too much, just did their job. They know what they are doing. 16. Inspector planned 5 days later, all because of lack in communication and they could not make picture. Which means the team had to come back again to finish job after inspection (unnecessary delay) 17. They work with Acculynx messaging system, this does not work at all (if answer emails, the email get bounced) 18. Every email they send, is without supervisor or acculynx system in CC, so nobody knows what's going on 19. Send message on Monday 6th that job is not finished, so cannot sign. 20. On nov 7th at 5pm, "they" told Robby the supervisor the job is not finished (1 day later), and they have to finish job asap. While the team already finished that morning. 21. On he documents I had to sign on Monday 6th (job was not finished yet!), my name was spelled wrong, so had to decline signing 22. Amanda stopped answering texts since oct 23rd 23. We had roof damage from Ian like many people so we got multiple quotes and picked Mark Kaufman Roofing. They found the exact shingles we wanted. Tiffany Steinfath did a great job with the paper work and scheduling. TJ Oeinck was the boss of the crew and what a great guy he is. He gave us his personal mobile number and always answered any questions. His crew did a perfect job and even repaired some damaged gutters, soffits and facia. I contacted Mark Kaufman Roofing since it was local and I had hurricane roof damage that would need a complete replacement. A salesman was sent out but he was about 30 minutes late. He was personable but sounded like a used car salesman--all he needed was white shoes. His next visit was scheduled for a day later and he was about 45 minutes late--traffic both times, he said. On his next visit he was only late about 20 minutes and signed up and gave him a deposit check. The following day we were to meet him in Venice to pick out the tile at a local showroom at 3:00 pm. We arrived right on time and he was not there. About 20 minutes later I texted him "we are here". No response. We left a little after 4;00 and he was a no show. I called the office sometime later and left a message for them. I told them I wanted my money back and I wanted a member of management or owner to call so I could tell them live about their employee. The next morning he showed up with a company refund check. I thanked him and closed the door. It has been a week since I requested a phone call from someone in management but they have not called me. They lost a $58k roofing job and were not interested enough to contact me. I guess they can read about it here instead. read more

I contacted Mark Kaufman Roofing in North Port, FL for a repair on my roof. The estimator came out and stated "all of the plywood will need to be replaced." The estimator emailed a written estimate with cost. ----- On the day of the repair the work crew stated they didn't need to replace any plywood. (They also didn't bring any plywood with them). The crew removed the tiles, adhered a new piece of underlayment on top of the existing underlayment, replaced some flashing, and put my tiles back on. ----- When I received the bill, the price was the full price of the replace all plywood quote. I contacted the estimator. He stated "that's odd no plywood was replaced. Regardless if we use 0 sheets or 10 sheets, the price is the same." ----- The wording on the work order stated "replace any rotten wood as necessary." That template wording does not negate or relieve the estimator of what he said. I was told the plywood would be replaced. It wasn't. ----- Mark Kaufman Roofing uses deceptive business practices. Plus, the owner wanted to over-talk and argue with me on the phone. read more

My wife and I had a leak in my roof that they repaired, but the final product does not look professionally finished. The supervisor even promised to come out to fix the issue after my complaint, but have failed to do so and it has been at least two weeks. read more

The company may be under different management than years ago. We had worked with them for years, even though they made mistakes with repairs. We have had Mark Kaufman Roofing do two repairs to our roof in the past six months. Of course it is impossible to actually see the repairs unless one is up on the roof and I am definitely not going to do that! But I can tell you they were extremely professional, great at communicating the problems/fixes, reasonable in cost and came to do the work as scheduled. I thought it was really good when the sales rep also asked me for my feedback on the process, and listened to an improvement suggestion.
