FORTUNATELY, after two years interviewing local dental teams I found DR. WIGHT (restorative/preventive) and DR. REDD (gum and bone specialist). Dr. Redd really saved the day! I came to Dr. Redd with a very poor gum repair job that was performed by a dentist in Huntington Beach. It seems that you get what you pay for but that does not include all the extra time. By not changing to Dr. Redd sooner, it cost me 6 more months of agony. xMARK REDD, DENTIST/PERIODONTIST REVIEW Dr. Mark Redd just recently performed successful gum grafting on three of my teeth. Mark is just what you hope for, in every respect, in a periodontal dental/surgical specialist: very, very thorough examination-- patient in giving explanations---impeccable credentials, qualifications, and experience---knows what he is doing because he has had to redo the work of other dentists who overreach their abilities---down to earth, not arrogant---understanding and genuinely caring 'chair side' personality---a good listener---sensitive and accommodating to the "no pain" fear of dental surgery--- careful ongoing follow up with no charge--- does not try to oversell to just get another buck---warm, friendly and patient office staff who are not frantically running around and gruffly and hurriedly answering patients' phone calls and trying to get them off the phone quickly and on to the next call (Denise is awesome), AND Dr. Redd gets good results. He is a product of Orange County and Mater Dei as well as UCLA undergrad, dental school, and specialty...so if you are a Trojan, beware!!! At 64, I have never had any work done on my teeth or gums except cleaning for my entire life. So when my general dentist told me that I had a couple of areas where my gums were receding, I was fearful of the unknown. I had a lot of questions for Dr. Redd after receiving a personal referral. Does gum grafting work for the long term? How does it work? How is it done, the procedure? What is the pain level? How does it heal? Well, the procedure didn't sound so comfortable and certainly not something I wanted to see. So, "Can you give me something so I don't feel the pain, and better yet don't know what's going on during the surgery?" We both laughed at my anxiety but he understood and obliged. On the day of surgery, I do not remember arriving at the office, seeing him, anything about the surgery, no pain during or after the surgery, not pumped full of pain meds afterwards, AND RECEIVED A PERSONAL PHONE CALL FROM HIM the next day to see if I was OK. I said, "Well, when necessary, you can do any surgery on my teeth/gums you want to, as long as I can afford it!" I have had emergency quadruple bypass surgery and a prostatectomy, and now gum grafting. The bypass happened so fast that I didn't have time to be fearful; I understood the prostatectomy procedure, had complete faith in the doctor's expertise and success rate, the only fear was getting all of the cancer; BUT I think I was more anxious about the gum surgery!
