We met Kasia from Malishka Photography while we were looking for a wedding photographer and decided…read moreto choose her for a number of reasons the photographs in her portfolio were stunning and she put together exactly the package we wanted for an extremely reasonable price (especially by comparison to some of photographers in Edinburgh!) and didn't try to force us to buy other bits and pieces we didn't need. The other big plus for us was that she gave us the right to reproduce the images as we wanted we couldn't believe the number of wedding photographers we contacted who expected to retain the copyright and for you only to get reproductions done by them. What turned out to be a real bonus for us however, as neither of us are big fans of having our photograph taken, was the pre-wedding shoot included which gave us a chance to get used to being photographed, and for Kasia to get used to working with us. Any anticipation or nerves we felt about being in front of the camera were completely removed by Kasia's warm manner and approach and the images she produced for us from the pre-wedding shoot gave us total confidence (and even some excitement!) about having her as our photographer for the wedding. On the wedding day she must have been everywhere but virtually invisible as at no point did she intrude - even our guests commented on how discrete she was by comparison to their experiences at other weddings. The best bit however had to be, without a doubt, the end product and our wedding photographs are absolutely stunning; she managed to capture the feeling of the day and the venue beautifully as well as lots of wonderfully informal ones from the ceremony and reception. She even managed to surprise us by having taken pictures of lots of elements, like our cake and the place settings, which we wouldn't even have thought to have asked to be photographed. Her approach remained flexible even after the wedding and it was no problem for us to add on extra images to our order when we'd seen the proofs as there was too many we loved! Overall we can't thank her enough for capturing our day so well; we wouldn't hesitate to use her again ourselves and would definitely recommend her to anyone especially those put off by half of the overpriced, stuffy professionals you meet at wedding fairs!

Passports or family portraits? I recommend Photo Express for both!…read more While traveling through Edinburgh, we found out our lawyers needed passport/visa photos from us "toute suite". We found Photo Express online and Toby had great reviews. Now we know why! Service was top-notch with a genuine care for the finished result. He even used a light reflector screen (placed beneath you) to get a beautiful sheen to your skin! Nice touch. I also loved that he took multiple shots and showed them to you (for approval) before you even leave the chair. I also was impressed with how Toby was able to make us smile naturally with his quick wit and disarming charm. Judging by the fabulous family portraits on the walls, it's clear that he is a talented photographer. It's no small thing to get an entire family smiling naturally but he seems to do it easily! We experienced that without even posing for a family portrait. Passport photos are already dreadful but Photo Express was a pleasure!

I have to admit I've found the kilt much more attractive than I expected to (granted it's got to be the right kind of a man in it!) and have noticed a whole range in terms of quality. That said, Christopher Ross is definitely up there, if there is such a thing as high fashion kilts! To rent a full outfit for a weekend, it'll cost you anything from £60 to £90, so I wonder just how much it costs to actually own one. It's part of my greater plan to leave Scotland with my own, and it's bound to be the best outfit a girl can wear to a dress up party!

It has an excellent collection of kilts ranging across each of the traditional clan outfits and they tailor each one to exactly fit the individual customer. Althoug I just had a look around, the guy behind the desk was friendly and told me all about the different suits and dinner jackets which they had on offer. To buy, they all seemed pretty extortionate with a full traditional outfit costing about £700. Then again, that's probably the going rate and all their clothing is top of the range in quality. If you're ever loking for some formal attire or even a pair of trews (tartan trousers which actually looked pretty cool) then Christopher Ross is certainly worth a look.

Much to our surprise, our reservation had a glitch and we found out we were booked for only 1 instead of 2 nights. Mo, the manager, was more than gracious. They had no availability for us to extend our stay but she and her staff worked to make sure we had lovely accommodations elsewhere on night 2. While we were there, everything was perfect. Need ice? Mo and her staff are superb at making you feel welcome and very well taken care of. Only regret, despite our wonderful alternate accommodations, we wish we could have spen two nights at this great guesthouse.

The washing machine was a plus, as was the heated towel rack. Most staff were great, helpful, and accommodating. They seem to take pleasure in giving information about Edinburgh and provided an annotated map with highlights. The location was perfect- walkable from all the sights, quiet, and close to Edinburgh Waverley. Cons: I had checked in on the app. I don't love that they charge progressively more for checking in early. It felt like a money grab if the room was available earlier. We had checked in on the app but when we tried to go down the hall to our room, a staff member rudely told us to check in at the front desk. I felt like I was being scolded, when the app had already provided check in instructions and door code. The bed was not comfortable. The rooms were cold- I tried to turn up the heat but it must have a setting that doesn't allow it to go past a certain temperature. There was no closet or anywhere to unpack belongings for the stay. WiFi was spotty and slow

Everything we needed was there. All bathroom and kitchen necessities were provided. There is a laundry/dryer machine in the apartment. We liked that it was close to a lot of the places that we were going to as a tourist, either walking distance or via bus. It was a very comfortable home away from home. But the cherry on top for us is that the staff there goes above and beyond. They are very kind and helpful. When we needed a taxi, they called one for us. Our last day in Edinburgh was going to be a train ride to London. We checked out and went to the train station. We were at the station when I asked my daughter if she had her laptop with her. She looked in her bag and discovered that it wasn't in her backpack. Just as I was turning to go back to the apartment, one of the staff (Karen), appeared out of nowhere with the computer. The apartment is a little over 1/2 mile from the train station. Karen looked like she ran from the apartment to find us. She tried calling us but we didn't have service. So she took the time to bring it down to us. We are so grateful for Karen and the rest of staff that is caring and kind! We had wonderful stay at the Royal Garden Apartments and in Edinburgh.
