Mark Herman Seemed like an interesting choice Considering let my most recent dentist had advised me to do some Rather expensive work. I called up and the person who answered the phone was professional and efficient something I had learned not to expect at dentist's offices. I arrived a little early and filled out the forms that everyone seemed to be asking about these days. The Dental Hygienist, Gabriel, Was competent and efficient. He worked hard to put me at ease. The evaluation was efficient and comprehensive. More importantly, there was no effort to upsell me. Despite the effort of my previous dentist to convince me that several procedures were necessary. Interestingly Doctor Hermon, noticed every situation that my previous dentist had had declared to be in need of immediate repair, but he simply suggested that "we keep an eye on this." read more

I would definitely not recommend Mark Herman's dds. Found the office to be very outdated. My major concern about the overall Sanitation of the office and the use of outdated equipment, which made me uncomfortable. it is considered a mandatory standard of care for dental offices to ensure that all water used for rinsing a patient's mouth is sanitary which I truly believe was not. read more

Just an average experience. The temporary crown broke twice in a week. I had a temporary crown years ago that lasted 6 weeks until the permanent crown was ready. When I discussed this with the office manager, I was told that "it is why it is called a temporary". I have experienced two incredible, snarky front desk women. As a doctor myself, I found it stunning. I will complete my cleaning package and find another dentist. INSURANCE FRAUD!!! Went to Mark Herman, DMD Dental Excellence for a simple cleaning. They made me pay full price of $99 even though I have insurance. Then I get a statement from my insurance company that they were billed $331, out of which insurance paid them $92, so this Dental Excellence office made $191 on my cleaning. At my expense. I went in for an extraction of an impacted molar. That being said, I have CHF and COPD, and unfortunately, they would not treat me because I forgot my Credit card. I was more concerned about any infection going through my body. As a medical professional, he was more concerned about money. I let him know I can go home after the procedure and call in with my CC. (Going there for years.) That was a no. I managed to call someone and it was paid. $256.00 to Mark Herman Dentistry....Just wanted this taken care of. I do worry about my health. Yes, I was I irritated and let them know. I was then asked to leave. (I did get my money back a few days later.) What professional doctor treats patients in this manner? As good as the original dentist was in advising me of my options for a tooth removal and partial denture replacement, the front desk staff of at Mark A Herman was very rude and misleading concerning the pricing/payment schedule for my scope of work. I had the dentist remove my tooth but I didn't go back to get the rest of the work done, because of the unprofessional attitude of the front desk staff. I lost my trust in Mark A. Herman, DMD, PA because of the front desk staff; they were very nasty and rude. They made me feel like they were doing me a favor and were not very well-coming at all. Came to (Herman) dentist office because of a broken tooth that needed to be pulled (and sorry I did go here). I spoke to the receptionist by phone to explain that I wanted a tooth extraction only. She said ok and made the appointment. I went and they took X-rays and took me to the room where I waited for a dentist. He came in, took the hooked instrument and poked at the tooth then walked out stating he'd be back after checking the X-rays, - which were up on a monitor in this room. I waited about 10 or so minutes for his return- but he never came back. A woman who does the financial paperwork comes into the room and starts explaining the bill and says the dentist recommends a 'bone graft.' I was surprised and questioned the purpose of the bone graft. She said "that's what the dr. recommended." I told her I didn't need a bone graft for a simple tooth extraction. I told her this sounds like the bill is being padded with an unnecessary procedure. She became defensive and stated that there are "newer things" in dentistry now, as if she were talking to someone who's never been to a dentist. She said I'd have to pay for the bone graft out of pocket (over $400.+ dollars!) because med. insurance doesn't cover it. I said "newer things?" I advised her that I had a tooth extraction last year and that dentist wasn't pushing a 'bone graft.' She seemed surprised and said 'oh' then didn't know what to say. She accused me of being argumentative and aggressive which I wasn't, (a liberal playbook move) when I was just trying to explain that I only wanted the tooth pulled. I don't even know why she was discussing this with me since she's not a dentist. She was dismissive of what I wanted and took off the paper bib, then said 'well we're done, I'll walk you out." Wow! So in other words I was denied a tooth extraction by a civilian office worker because I wouldn't let the dentist do a bone graft?? I never even got to speak to the dentist about this. Doesn't sound professional or ethical. A bone graft is only necessary if you want an implant done at some point, which I didn't. If anything I would use a small removable bridge to fill the gap if I wanted it. None of that was even discussed because the dentist never returned to the room this whole time. **The previous year another dentist from a different office did not recommend an implant because the tooth (on the upper set across from this one) was too close to the sinuses which I do have sinus issues. These people didn't even ask if I have sinus issues. I never returned to that dentist because of $500+ charges I had to pay that I was never advised of before the teeth cleaning, or I would have gone back to that dentist since he did do a good job with the other tooth extraction I had a year ago. What is it with these dentists in FL.??! ** I recently lost these 2 teeth due to bad dentistry decades ago when dentists drilled cavity holes bigger to fit the filling instead of fitting a smaller filling in the cavity hole. As a result of this the tooth will eventually fracture and break apart years later as mine did. Unfortunately I have now lost 2 such teeth due to bad dentistry practices of decades ago. Research and know what you need before having work done and ask what's covered so you don't pay for unnecessary procedures. read more

Beware of this practice!!! I have been getting my cleanings here, and I had a crown replaced and a new crown done here (both are increasingly sensitive) but recently, I had a toothache on the opposite side. I went in on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and they took an x-ray scan, and said I need a Root Canal. They said they didn't have a dentist to help on the weekend, and they would call me Monday to say if Dr. Herman could perform the procedure. (Not a very reassuring statement.) Well, they didn't call me back, so I tried a different dentist, who said I needed a specialist, and he gave me a suggestion of who to see. He said that since Dr. Herman's office had already done the x-ray scan, I could pick up a disk and take it to the specialist, when I go. So I called Dr. Herman's office and they said they could give me the films, but if I wanted a disk, there is a charge. So, I went to get the disk the next Saturday, and she told me the disk would cost me $250.00!!! I laughed out loud and said a disk costs less than $1.00! I said, "well, give me the films." She printed something on the laser printer. She held up a piece of paper with a print of tooth #30 only. This was not films, as she said I could get, and it wasn't the whole mouth scan they took! This is MY record that the insurance paid for. Furthermore, Dr. Herman obviously can't do the procedure, so the scan was just a way to get money from the insurance company, and then if a dentist, capable of doing the procedure, wanted the scan, I would have to give them $250.00 over the $296.00 the insurance company already paid, just for a copy!!! I tried to explain that the scan was a complete waste, if they can't use it for the procedure, and I can't afford a copy of the disk! She said, she wasn't going to communicate with me anymore, if I was going to argue with her. So I said, "You guys suck! Have a great day!" and I walked out. So today, Monday, I called my insurance company, and they said that scan is supposed to cost me $0.00 out-of-pocket, so they called Dr. Herman's office while I was on the line. But they repeated the same thing, that I had to pay $250.00, if I want to give the disk to the specialist. So, the insurance company hung up with Dr. Herman's office, and told me that I will be covered for another scan at the new dentist's office. They already paid for the visit to Dr. Herman, so that's all they can do. Well, of course, this means I have to be exposed to radiation, again (after, I've already had several PET SCANS this year and Radiation Oncology treatments.) And the cost of a second scan will deplete much of what's left on my dental plan for the year. My tooth has been hurting me since Thanksgiving Day (12 days ago), and Dr. Herman's office has done nothing but prescribe antibiotics, and try to bilk me out of $250.00! Update: After speaking to my insurance company, and while I was writing this review, I called Dr. Herman's office one more time. I asked if I could get the films of the scan, and she said there is no film of the scan. I would have to have a disk burned for $250.00! I explained all the above, again, and she said, if I come in, they will open the scan, and I can take pictures of it. So, I will have to try that. I wish they had, at least, offered that the last time I went to pick up the scan. I don't know if that will be good enough for the specialist, but it's my only hope of using the existing record! Harrumph! 2nd Update: So I posted this review, including the addition, that they finally offered to help, in the last paragraph (above). I instantly got a call from Dr. Herman's office, telling me that because I wrote this review, honestly telling what happened to me there, They will no longer allow me to come in and take a picture of my scan, either. So the one thing they offered to do to finally help me, was withdrawn. So I have to go back to my initial critique of Dr. Herman's office, "They suck!" BEWARE! 3rd Update Dr. Herman's office just sent me .pdf's of the x-rays they took, via e-mail. That is at least, some help. read more

Tried this place for the first time and really wanted to like it for the proximity to my new house. Front office staff is rude and seems to be a lot of miscommunication going around. One lady said i would be able to get my x-rays by the end of the day, the next said it would take up to a week?... which is it? Didnt feel like a valued customer, as i was checking out the lady was helping 2 other people and taking phone calls making me wait 15 minutes just to tell me im good to go. Very unprofessional. The endodontist there, don't even know his name he didn't introduce himself, was very unprofessional and looked at my teeth for 1 second and was like yep come back for a root canal. Not personable at all. Wish i knew the name of the first hygienist who cleaned my teeth she was very sweet and made me feel comfortable. too bad the rest of the staff is bringing her down.... read more

I highly recommend this practice and specifically Dr. Mark Herman. The staff is VERY polite and helpful. The hours include evening and Saturday appointments and they have their in-house insurance, if you don't have private dental insurance. $199 per year includes x-rays and cleaning 3 times a year for $0. I have an issue I need to address, but Dr. Herman says there is no rush unless it begins hurting me - so NO PRESSURE! There are other dentists in his practice, and I just saw Dr. Renata Cunha who was marvelous too. Make an appointment and confirm how right I was about this practice! read more

I needed a tooth extracted after moving to Florida. I was referred to Dr.Herman's office. The treatment itself was fine. But when i wanted a copy of the 360 scan they had taken to share with my dentist back home, they insisted on charging 250 dollars. Florida law clearly states that a patient is entitled to a copy of his or her medical files with only a nominal fee for copying etc. Clearly, 250 dollars is more than a nominal fee and seems to represent a desire to discourage patients from seeking second opinions. I advised the office this was contrary to Florida law and was told that this was their practice. I am not seeing this office again. read more

Top notch staff & dentist! A+ Was seen on emergency basis on a busy Monday. Broken rear crown, swelling not comfy after weeks of ibuprofen & dental anxiety! Receptionist staff got me entered into computer & into an exam room within an hour (I caught up on shopping nearby). Friendly, confident Dr Herman came in within minutes. Tooth needed to come out. Expected. The problem is that the Florida Blue Medicare app said YES, they're in-network but they're NOT! Same issue elsewhere - it's on ME to confirm network provider status by phone to BC/BS, then call dentist (or any provider) office to reconfirm. It's on ME (or you) to do research not them. How was I treated at Mark Herman Dental? A+ from top to bottom. Exceed expectations and anxiety level! I'll find a Medicare place to yank it out. It's south Florida. The best thing about the office is David Winer, DDS - Periodontist. Other than that forget it. Yesterday a staff member told me they would call me back by the end of the day and never did. I called back today and was transferred to three people who asked me the same questions. I asked the third one why she needed the information that I just gave the previous one and she said that she was going to hang up on me if I continued to talk in that manor. I asked to speak the an office manager and she said there wasn't one. They cancelled an appointment on me with never telling me that they cancelled it. I asked who cancelled and she said she didn't know. I've been seeing them for a while and there must have been a staff change because prior to this the staff was efficient and pleasant. I scheduled an appointment for my son and daughter because they were having dental emergencies. I explain to the desk that my son had a cracked tooth and that my daughter had pain in two.teeth.The dental assistant took one bite wing x-ray on my son and Dr. Herman came in and said I can't tell you what's wrong with the tooth until you have a cleaning in this office. My son brushes his teeth twice a day with an electric toothbrush. I explain to Dr.Herman who wanted immediately to clean their teeth that I wanted a diagnosis of the issue with the tooth. Dr. Herman refused to do that. At that point I asked him if I could please pay him for the x-ray and have the x-ray. He asked me why I wanted the x-ray and I said because I wanted to get a second opinion. He became very angry and shouted at me and said "I will not treat your son and daughter in this office get out". May I add that I am a former dental office manager for my late husband who is a dentist and orthodontist for many years. This dental place maxed out my Health insurance for $4000 dollars for three teeth pulled and a procedure for a coming implant. The dentist did this without knowing if implants were possible before checking if I had enough bone for an implant, which I did not have. He then sent me to another dentist to check if I had enough bone in another location. He should have done this in the first place. I then asked the boss, Mark Herman, how much a parshall would cost and he said, two thousand dollars for a parshall than had a metal linning. He never told me about the parshall that had a rubber linner that would cost 860.00 dollars. This is the price I was told by another dentist in another location that I should have gone to in the first place. Do not go to Mark Herman Dental, unless you want to spend more money than you have to. So shop around and get the best price you can get. read more

Had only been to Dr. Herman's office for routine cleanings for a couple of years and just completed my first "dental" visit for a crown with Dr. Herman. Two visits and done! Best part is it being painless, and costs given to me were accurate and nothing else asked for, as well as everything explained clearly and all my questions answered, including a call back when the person I was speaking to was not able to answer something. Andrea the hygienist was the one bright spot at Mark Herman's dental office. The dentists and office manager were rude and interrupted my dental cleaning in the middle of hygienists cleaning to try to hard sell me on other services. When I told them I was going with my oral surgeon for specialty service they refused to honor their $199 plan and release my dental plan and X-rays. I plan on reporting them for unethical business practices to the Florida dental board for disciplinary actions. Avoid this dental office like the plague. read more

I went to Dr. Herman's office to fix a broken tooth that he fixed once before, he told me that really wasn't his field although he fixed the same tooth a year ago. He told me he wouldn't be able to fix it but he had no problem offering me options, one after another starting with $12,000 worth of work, he kept throwing numbers at me. Well, I will tell you my experience. When I called the office I asked to have Dr. Herman examine me. The girl gave me another doctor's name. I said I would like Dr. Herman. She said ok. At the office again the receptionist gave me another doctor. I went thru the same thing with her. She said it would not be a problem for Dr. Herman to see me. Xrays went ok. Then in the MIDDLE of the cleaning the hygienist said, I'll have to stop now as the doctor wants to give you the exam". I said "WHAT? I am in the middle of a cleaning". The hygienist said, "don't worry - I'll finish after the exam". Well in my whole life going to a dentist this is a first. Then of course it was not Dr. Herman, but another dentist. Third time I'm asking for Dr. Herman. Again the receptionist said he can do it now, as he is on his way out. Not even 5 minutes - looks in my mouth and says my teeth are in good shape. Then the hygienist finished the cleaning. Dr. Herman may have been good for many people who have been seeing him for 20 years - but is NOT GOOD FOR ME, nor do I like his office. I came in a month ago and explained how I'm on a time crunch because I'm moving and was very worried about getting things done on time while I still have insurance coverage. They unapologetically told me I'm shit out of luck and the doctor wouldn't even come in the room to talk about my options even though I could hear him outside the door. I have worked at Dr. Mark Herman's dental practice, as a dental hygienist, for the past 3 years. While performing a cleaning on a patient today, I was assaulted. During the cleaning, I politely asked the patient several times to keep his mouth open, so I can perform the cleaning safely. The patient started yelling at me because of that. I asked the patient to stop yelling, and he just continued to raise his voice towards me. Then, I stated that I would no longer continue the cleaning. While I was attempting to put my instrument back on the tray, the patient violently grabbed my arm and pulled me towards him as if he was going to swing his other fist at me. I immediately broke free from his grasp and left the room. I yelled to my closest colleagues that I was assaulted and asked for assistance. I was very distraught and began to call the police. This was when Dr. Mark Herman came to assess the situation. He advised me not to call the police, and that I should have come to him first. Because I was so distraught, I was raising my voice, stating "the patient assaulted me." At this moment, Dr. Mark Herman told me: "Pack your stuff and leave. You are done for today. You do not speak to me like that!" I replied, stating "I was just assaulted, and you are kicking me out but not the patient?" Dr. Mark Herman walked away from me and went to attend to the patient instead. He decided to keep the patient in the practice so someone else could attend to him. To be clear, Dr. Mark Herman would rather keep a violent patient in his practice than defend his own employee. I have seen similar events occur here when patients curse or yell at other employees, and Dr. Mark Herman simply changes the employee that attends them. However, an event like today where someone physically assaults me is completely unacceptable. I am deeply saddened to see how little Dr. Mark Herman values his employees, and how poor he handled the situation. read more

I am om a fixed income. I borrowed $2,500 to get a root canal and cap on my tooth 1/31 & 2/22 this year. I went back soon afterwards because it was bothering me. Dr Herman told me all was well and to just give it a few months. I got an infection the beginning of June and went to see Dr Herman and then saw Dr Espanol on June 6. The tooth has cracked and now must be removed or get an implant for around $6,000. Dr Herman or the surgeon Dr Espanol offered me no empathy. I was told that everything was done correctly. Initially Dr Herman told me that this happens very rarely (1-2%). I was given no relief from my debt nor offered to have my tooth pulled at no extra cost. As a last ditch effort I said that I would give a poor review. But Dr Herman just said that he would respond to it. Then in desperation I said I could get a lawyer and he just said to let the lawyers deal with it. So, although they feel justified I am amazed at the arrogance of the surgeon. He told me that people spend $50,000 on cancer treatment and die. People die from cosmetic surgery. He challenged me to get any other opinion and it will be proven that he did everything correct. He reminded me that I signed the release forms. My big disappointment is how they both stood there basically telling me tough luck. There is nothing they can do. If this happens so rarely why not give a previously loyal patient a little break (at least pull the tooth at no extra cost). It would show good faith and be a good business decision since this happens rarely. But they seemed more concerned about being right than being compassionate to a retired patient on a fixed income Update: I have subsequently learned that given the tooth was bothering me right after the root canal they should have let me use the temporary cap for a few months. Then at least I would have not borrowed so much money. But they were so confident that they took no cautionary measures. I did ask Dr Espanol during the difficult root canal if he thought the tooth was able to take a cap. He assured me that he would "never" do a root canal for a tooth that could not support a cap. read more

ecently I signed a treatment plan that called for a crown and buildup on the #30 tooth. The plan was incorrect and the proper tooth was the #14 tooth. When I questioned Tina and ask to see the x-rays, she snipped at me that I had signed the plan and to not question her or disrespect her. When I told her I just wanted to see the x-rays she told me to get up and get out. I saw Dr. Herman and told him I had wanted to see the x=rays to make sure the proper tooth was crowned but I would find another dentist. If you want to be treated like cattle this is the place to go. If you want to go somewhere they won't even check to see if a mistake was made this is the place to go, because they do make mistakes. Dr. Herman came very well recommended so I went there for a consultation to have a crown done. They give you a "proposed treatment plan" with your charges and services. I was not sure what it all meant so I called to simply inquire on my charges - she said she would have to ask Dr. Herman and get back to me. Well evidently this man is so completely full of himself that he got offended that I had the nerve to ask about what the charges were for and he told his associate to tell me he was not going to do it and I could see someone else. Excuse me, what? I'm pretty sure that most people would want to know what is going to be done in their mouth and how much it is going to cost when it's thousands of dollars. I was just shocked. Incredibly unprofessional. And the office is run like a puppy mill - soooo many people working there, so many patients, everyone is a number and it is completely unorganized. I have since gone somewhere else where they had no problem explaining what my costs were, oh and the new place charged me $800 less and the dentist is actually a Prosthedontist so my crown was perfect..Beware when they do not want to explain all your "charges," it's because you do not need to have them. This review is for office staff, gilrs who answer phone calls, in particular. I never got to see the doctors, because of useless inattentive receptionists or I rasther call them appointment takers. I call in today to schedule an appointment for my mother. SO this cheerleader answers the phone very enthusiastically tells me how wonderful their doctors are... OK, so I tell her that my mother has a dental insurance (PCP) and she exclaims:' yeah, we take that, that would be doctors such and such!". Ok , great here is her information ( F.L.N,DOB, etc.) So, she scheduled it for next day and than she asks again if my mother has a dental insurance, really?!
