Today was my first experience with Dr. Griffiths' office. I must say the feel and atmosphere that I got when I walked in was reassuring. They are so friendly and caring. Cynthia took my X-ray and was so patient and polite. I've been to offices before when it feels like the person in my mouth had no empathy or understanding of what it's like to have someone rooting around in their mouth. Cynthia was wonderful. In addition to being polite and gentle, she was personable and was engaged in conversation with me. Dr. Griffiths was a joy to work with as well and it's easy to see that the atmosphere here starts at the top. They have plenty of parking and I'm told they are moving soon, which will allow for even more parking. The location is easy to get to from anywhere. I came from Scripps Ranch and it was just a little more than a 15 minute drive. I've been to all sorts of dentist around San Diego and today was my best experience. read more

I had bilateral reverse total shoulder replacements last year. I went to Dr. Griffiths office for a porcelain crown this year. I told him my orthopedic surgeon had recommended 2 gm. of Cephalexin one hour prior to dental procedures. He proceeded to tell me that this was not recommended by the ADA because Staphylococcus aureus does not reside in the mouth. S. aureus can occur in the mouth as well as other bacteria that can be carried in the bloodstream to the implants (which do not have a blood supply). Of course I continued to take the antibiotics prior to my dental appointments to prevent any potential infection of my implants. Why would a dentist who is only licensed to treat the mouth advise patients what they should do OVER the advice of a board certified orthopedic surgeon? I am a veterinarian for over 30 years. I am well educated about the medical field, including dentistry. Veterinarians have to practice on the mouth, skin, abdomen, including dental work and dental care. Subsequent to having my permanent crown installed, I began having severe, acute sensitivity to cold. It persisted for more than two weeks. I called the dental office and never received any call back from Dr. Griffiths. His receptionist sent my X-rays to an endodontist. The endodontist's office called me immediately and told me that they wanted to first try a medrol pack since the crown was recently applied. This is a potent anti-inflammatory drug. They called the prescription into my pharmacy. I took the 7 day course of this drug and the pain completely resolved with this prescription. The receptionist at the endodontist's office called me back to see how I was doing after I had finished the prescription. I told them that the tooth was totally pain free. Still no calls from Dr. Griffiths. At my veterinary hospitals, we routinely called every client who had a dental procedure or a surgery to see how the pet was doing after the procedure. I never received any call from Dr. Griffiths or his receptionist with an offer of an anti-inflammatory course of medication. I have transferred my records to a younger, more informed dentist. Dr. Griffith's is not an MD and should continue to work on the area he is licensed to treat. I felt his advice not to take antibiotics over the recommendation of my board certified orthopedic surgeon prior to my dental visits was difficult to comprehend and very unprofessional. There are many articles by orthopedic surgeons on line stating that taking antibiotics prior to a dental procedure or colonoscopy is indicated following total joint replacements to prevent inadvertent bacterial infection of the implants. Dental practice used to be in a charming bungalow, but now is in a dental building across the street. Hygienist staff is great. Griffiths is very competent and they have top of the line instrumentation. At every cleaning there was always a $300 up-sell (custom mouth guard because I "might grind" my teeth at night, custom whitening trays, a special dental tray to alter mouth flora, custom made retainers because my teeth "might start to move" at my age of 40). I've never experienced this at any other dental practice. I was contacted by the office in early March to schedule coming in for 2 fillings, over two months after my cleaning from December. I was very confused, as I wasn't told I had any cavities at my cleaning. When I expressed this, staff told me "you have decay. You need fillings." I stated this didn't jive with what I'd been told over two months before, and office staff stated Dr. Griffiths would call me to discuss. It's now been 2.5 months. I've requested the call 5 additional times by email, and I've been told I need to come in for additional oral photos. When I stated that I just wanted a clarifying phone call that would take 5 mins, I was told the doctor wanted another appointment. I'm done with this practice. I shouldn't have to fight to get a phone call when I'm given information by the office staff that conflicts with what I was told during my appointment. read more

This dentist had decent reviews and a friend had brought her child there so I decided to go. After securing an appointment with very limited business hours I arrived. The house has been converted to a dentist office and is a bit outdated with an unpleasant smells. The receptionist was very kind which is needed because the dentist smug distant and distracted. My child refuses to go back as do I after receiving an overinflated bill for a minimal check up. With the dental technology available today and kind caring medical services that are available this dentist and practice falls obscenely short. Do yourself a favor and choose a more qualified updated and kind practice. read more

He's honest about what it will take for restorative care and works with the patient to assess what is manageable. I am truly blown away by the work Mark Griffiths and his staff have done for me, as well as the kindness they have shown. I moved to San Diego and had gone to the same dentist my entire life. I kept putting finding a new one off, even though I knew I had cavities that needed to be worked on. The front desk team was amazing in helping me get in for X-rays and a cleaning, and then working with me to quickly find a time to get my cavities filled. Scam alert! Stay away. My girlfriend doesn't use Yelp, but she went in for an appointment after not having a regular dentist for a number of years, and left in tears after being told that not only did she have a cavity but that her jaw would need up to $10,000 in surgery (despite having two years of orthodontics as a child) or she would lose most of her teeth by middle age. She doesn't have dental insurance (and so was a great target for their inflated fees) and is already carrying a significant student loan burden, but I guess this guy has to pay for those heated mirrors somehow. The dentist then threatened her that if she didn't get the surgery, it would likely cost upwards of $60,000 when she eventually had to get her jaw reconstructed "and she wouldn't be able to send her kids to college." On top of that, she left with her mouth aching for the rest of the day and still tender the next day. She was smart and got a second opinion, and the second dentist was baffled by the 'diagnosis' and said she didn't even have a single cavity. Look at this guy's other reviews carefully - all posted within three days of each other, six months ago, including one from "a retired dentist" who carefully enumerates his credentials but says nothing about having any patient experience and in fact confesses to being a former coworker. The only other review is a 1-star warning from another patient who was scammed and given similar treatment, with a defensive and very generic response left by the dentist. I'm eagerly awaiting defensive feedback and a flurry of shills to move this review down and away from the name of Mark Griffiths, DDS! She says he was very warm and friendly, and the office was well decorated, so there's that I guess. read more

First things first: This review is LONG overdue. I feel it is only appropriate that I tell you a little bit about myself. For as long as I can remember I have feared the dentist (multiple horrific experiences)...and LOVED sugar. All kinds. I don't discriminate. Sadly, I was also blessed with deep grooves and soft enamel. I eventually got to a point where my dental issues could not be ignored. I needed to find a dentist ASAP because even breathing through my mouth hurt. After careful consideration I found Dr. Griffiths about ten years ago (he was at a different practice at the time). He will probably tell you himself that I was not his easiest patient. Even under conscious sedation the sound of the drill scared me. But he and his team patiently worked with me, and before I knew it my work was done. You name it, I've had it (for the most part). Fillings, root canals, crowns, inlays/onlays, etc, etc. Not only am I able to eat like a normal person now, but my teeth look great! People stop me and tell me all the time, and they can't believe it when I tell them that pretty much every tooth in my mouth has had work done. I honestly can't thank Dr. Griffiths enough for the care he takes with me (and all of his patients). I appreciate his holistic approach, and his desire to continually improve in his craft. Even when I moved to NYC, I flew to San Diego for my appointments. You'd better believe I wasn't going to bother finding another dentist. Anyway, I could go on and on...but no matter where life takes me I am certain I will be flying back to Cali for my appointments. I can't imagine trusting another dentist more. One of my biggest fears (aside from needing more dental work) is that he will decide to retire early.
