DO NOT HIRE THIS FIRM!!!!! I only gave one star because I didn't know how to give zero. I am currently facing criminal charges and for the simple fact that my previous attorney committed suicide earlier this year I chose to go with this firm. Unknowingly that they are hourly. I literally got into an argument with Mark Cogan on the phone as to why is his quote 10,000 dollars and not 7,500 like all the other firms that I have called. He said this is his business he is the boss and he and he only sets the price. At no time during that conversation did he tell me that this firm is not flat rate as is 90% of all other Attorneys in the area. If I was upset about 2500 dollars then at that point it should have been explained to me that they are not flat rate and that a case like mine would be a lot more than 10,000 anyway. What he said (Mark) was that " if you have a problem with that price then maybe we're not the firm you should go with" never once did he say we are not flat rate. Otherwise why would anyone who is upset about the difference between 7500 and 10,000. Continue to go with this firm knowing it will be a lot more? I am not mentally insane and I work very hard for my income as a small business owner. That 10,000 set my family budget back and now not only did I explain this to Mark he knew that I didn't know it. He sent a request for funds and in the email he said that " some individuals who are in a financial bind can turn to friends and family members, here is a link for them" in the email. Obviously he knew that. He never sat down with me to even meet me before depositing my check into his account. Matter of fact I never met him at all! He claimed to be sick in the office when I came to meet him. Though he still had me sign the paperwork to hire him and accepted me check without explaining how their firm charges. I was set to go to trial in a couple weeks before I signed up with his firm. I can admit that I didn't read the fine print. And I do mean fine. Almost 1000 words on a sheet of paper, in front of a person who is facing charges is a lot to understand. I should have had someone go over the fee agreement with me. Anyone in his office could have easily explained that they are not a flat rate form like most others are and that they could be a lot more than 10 grand so think about that before you make your decision to commit to this firm for representation. DID THAT HAPPEN? NO! He might have a good courtroom reputation, but do not go with this firm. Mark Cogan does not care about people at all. He knew that I would it be able to afford his firm yet failed to properly go over the fee agreement with me. As I was arguing with him over 2500 dollars. Yet still he let me sign that fee agreement without him nor anyone else in the office explaining it to me. He may very well have been sick that day we were supposed to have our initial meeting. I don't know. What I do know is that I had hired a previous Attorney to represent me and she committed suicide. I hired his firm unknowingly of the fees that it would be. And I explained that to Mark. It was a honest mistake. I asked could he please help me. Maybe a sliding scale or limited scope of work. Knowing that I didn't understand his feelings agreement because no one in his office went over it with me. He didn't even reply to my email, just had his paralegal send me a letter of withdrawal from my case. He might be a great attorney but he is a terrible man. His morals are in line with money hungry politicians that tell you one thing but mean something different. He knows the situation I am in and took advantage of me. Pure evil, with no intent on serving the people he works for just his bank account. read more

Veterans, do not use this law firm. Called to ask about a D.C. charge consultation. Wanted $6500 just to get the ball rolling. If this guy really worked with veterans he would know that the maximum V.A. disability per month is well under half of what he is asking for. There was no, "here is what we can do" Just, "Do you have any family or friends to help out?" I don't. Next was "well, good luck to you". I sure do feel sorry for the next veteran who needs a lawyer, has nobody to help him/her out, and finds this firm that claims that they work with veterans. They Do Not. read more

highly recommend Mark and his team if you need help with legal trouble. I think of Mark as an angel sent here to protect the patrons of the town and he is my new best friend. I'm hoping to meet him in person one day. He has been helping people with legal trouble since I was conceived in the womb. I wouldn't go anywhere else due to the fact that Mark graduated from NYU Law School, which is a highly recommended program out in the Big Apple. He is more than capable and definitely knows his stuff. My hope is I don't get into any more trouble with the law and won't have to hire the firm again. This was a game changer for me due to the fact that I'm trying to become a United States Marine and I had a felony on my record from 24 years ago. I never could have made it without Mark and his team to have an opportunity to achieve my dreams. Now I'm better, stronger and I've learned from my actions. It's always best to follow the rules and laws, even when nobody is looking and to do the right thing. I'm beyond grateful and again think of the team as my new family. read more

Mark is incredibly helpful in giving his honest opinion and not just telling you what you want to hear in order to get money out of you! It's clear that he is very experienced and knows the law well. If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation of needing a lawyer, do yourself a favor and contact his office. read more

I had some legal questions and looked at Mark Cogan's website for answers. It was very informative, with several videos and clear explanations of options. When I spoke with Mark, he was very nice, professional, and clearly explained options. I would recommend Mr. Cogan to anyone looking for legal advice or representation. read more

Be very careful hiring this attorney. In our case he did not care about his client, their family or what happened to them. The client paid thousands of dollars for absolutely nothing. Do not trust him. I agree with Katherine N. from Corvallis Oregon. He was very condescending and rude. He seemed irritated any time the client asked a basic question to help them understand the case and what to expect. I recommend that during the consultation you ask lots of questions. Pay attention to his reaction and the way he answers your questions before you decide to hire him. read more

Attorney Mark Cogan is a stellar attorney in the Portland Metro area. Mark's professionalism, honesty, outstanding knowledge of criminal law and prompt/immediate response to client's concerns are what makes him stand out the most. I would trust Mark and his team to represent my family and I again if needed. Highly recommended attorney! Thank you Mark! read more

We enlisted the help of Mark for a traffic accident case, Mark was very frank and straightforward in explaining the different outcome possibilities. After we signed the contract, Jeff was very responsive to our queries and the law office methodically pursued the case till it was decided with a very favorable outcome. We really appreciate the professionalism and responsiveness with which Mark handled our case. It was a pleasure working with his team. This case was resolved as a civil compromise. read more

Mark is very good at his job. He explains everything to you very clearly. I was waiting for an expungement and it was contested by the D.A. I was very worried but Mark told me the law is the law and there is no way around it. In the end it worked out and we won. I am very grateful to Mark and his team. read more

Incredibly condescending and quite rude. I was appalled at the lack of kindness Mr. Cogan exhibited.

I was involved in a matter that involved inadvertence on my part and no intentional misconduct, but which could have been nonetheless viewed as a serious crime. Mark, with his significant experience in criminal practice and stellar repudiation for candor and fair dealing with law enforcement, was able to contact the appropriate law enforcement authorities to explain the situation and to negotiate a good outcome for me. Mark knew exactly how to identify the key facts and then to present the right argument to the right official at the right time. He did this in a deft and effective manner that resulted in a fair and very good result for me. There is no substitute for knowledge, experience and keen professional judgment in legal affairs, and Mark has all these attributes. I was pleased with Mark's representation of me and I give him an unqualified endorsement and review as a criminal practice lawyer. read more
