I have still not consistently received child support, aside from a few months my ex husband voluntarily paid himself. Communication throughout this process has been poor and unprofessional. Concerns were routinely dismissed, and I was often met with condescending behavior instead of guidance or solutions. At times, serious issues regarding my case were laughed off rather than handled professionally. I heard good things about this firm from a friend of mine who had speeding tickets fought by them before. I heard stories of his sentences being greatly reduced and I was intrigued. Submissively, I paid them the $600 up front. I explained my case to Emily, who was my attorney. We agreed to attempt to reduce the mph caught from 102mph, to 99mph in hopes of reducing my fine (because it would be under 100mph) and expunge the risk of potential license suspension. - that was all I wanted. The court date came up, and Emily informed me that I didn't have to attend even though I was planning to. (I have never been to court before) Mid-court session, I find to have Emily texting me that the judge wasn't looking to budge on my case. She texted me asking "good things" or "responsible things" about me that she could tell the judge. I couldn't believe it.. She asked me if I left the group of friends that were with me as if that would change my behavior. SHE THEN ASKED ME IF I SOLD THE CAR. Smh The court date was postponed since I wasn't there. A few months later, we go back to court and I join her there. She was practically late. I spoke with the deputy who pulled me over, and her outside the courtroom before it began. She attempted to side hug me while talking to the deputy of "how much a good man" I am. I was honestly more annoyed of how the case went rather the result. I feel like I was just targeted as an easy client, and seen as childish and quick way to make money. If I knew this was how it was going to go, I would've made a better case myself. I'm not sure why I didn't make the report sooner. Partially because it takes too long, and too busy with my life to offer attention towards my past.

I am currently facing criminal charges and for the simple fact that my previous attorney committed suicide earlier this year I chose to go with this firm. Unknowingly that they are hourly. I literally got into an argument with Mark Cogan on the phone as to why is his quote 10,000 dollars and not 7,500 like all the other firms that I have called. He said this is his business he is the boss and he and he only sets the price. At no time during that conversation did he tell me that this firm is not flat rate as is 90% of all other Attorneys in the area. If I was upset about 2500 dollars then at that point it should have been explained to me that they are not flat rate and that a case like mine would be a lot more than 10,000 anyway. What he said (Mark) was that " if you have a problem with that price then maybe we're not the firm you should go with" never once did he say we are not flat rate. Otherwise why would anyone who is upset about the difference between 7500 and 10,000. Continue to go with this firm knowing it will be a lot more? I am not mentally insane and I work very hard for my income as a small business owner. That 10,000 set my family budget back and now not only did I explain this to Mark he knew that I didn't know it. He sent a request for funds and in the email he said that " some individuals who are in a financial bind can turn to friends and family members, here is a link for them" in the email. Obviously he knew that. He never sat down with me to even meet me before depositing my check into his account. Matter of fact I never met him at all! He claimed to be sick in the office when I came to meet him. Though he still had me sign the paperwork to hire him and accepted me check without explaining how their firm charges. I was set to go to trial in a couple weeks before I signed up with his firm. I can admit that I didn't read the fine print. And I do mean fine. Almost 1000 words on a sheet of paper, in front of a person who is facing charges is a lot to understand. I should have had someone go over the fee agreement with me. Anyone in his office could have easily explained that they are not a flat rate form like most others are and that they could be a lot more than 10 grand so think about that before you make your decision to commit to this firm for representation. DID THAT HAPPEN? NO! He might have a good courtroom reputation, but do not go with this firm. Mark Cogan does not care about people at all. He knew that I would it be able to afford his firm yet failed to properly go over the fee agreement with me. As I was arguing with him over 2500 dollars. Yet still he let me sign that fee agreement without him nor anyone else in the office explaining it to me. He may very well have been sick that day we were supposed to have our initial meeting. I don't know. What I do know is that I had hired a previous Attorney to represent me and she committed suicide. I hired his firm unknowingly of the fees that it would be. And I explained that to Mark. It was a honest mistake. I asked could he please help me. Maybe a sliding scale or limited scope of work. Knowing that I didn't understand his feelings agreement because no one in his office went over it with me. He didn't even reply to my email, just had his paralegal send me a letter of withdrawal from my case. He might be a great attorney but he is a terrible man. His morals are in line with money hungry politicians that tell you one thing but mean something different. He knows the situation I am in and took advantage of me. Pure evil, with no intent on serving the people he works for just his bank account.
