Every other doctor I saw wouldn't call it what it was, and instead of treating me for cystic acne, which was clearly what I had, they all insisted that I needed special treatments that weren't covered by insurance, and that i HAD to buy their special products and creams if I wanted to see results. Not naming names but these were all dermatologists in lower Fairfield County that a lot of people swear by for whatever reason. Needless to say, none of it worked and I was really frustrated, and also embarrassed. I finally did some research on my own and realized that I had cystic acne, and went to Dr. Perez for help. She immediately - like within 15 seconds of looking at me - confirmed that was what I had, and then walked me through all of my options for treatment, and the pros and cons of each, and how and when to use certain parts of my skincare routine, etc. I visited her frequently and my skin just got better and better with every visit, and as the issues evolved so did the treatment. She never pushed any products on me (prescribed or from her own office, even though she had some skincare products she sold in house) and always made decisions about medication and prescriptions based on what was going to be the most helpful for me. Had I not found her, I'm not sure that my skin would be as healthy and clear as it is today, and I may have gotten desperate and turned to Accutane which is not a light decision. Bottom line - this is a dermatologist who is honest, fair, and wants to help you - not just to put more money in her pocket at any cost. I actually have severe dandruff and overgrowth of skin mites which the common diagnosis for that is "keratosis" I got so sick and my face got so messed up I ended up calling a random dermatologist who prescribed me scalp medication , two face medications and a bar soap. To say now I am better , but, you can't diagnose a skin condition by looking at a patient 10 feet across the room! The dermatologist I went to see at Westport dermatology, got up and close with my rash and actually asked me questions and sent me for bloodwork I just think, when it comes to conditions, it's important to seek other treatment options when one doctor fails to diagnose you .
