Selling pieces made out of everything from feathers to diamonds, gold to silver and much more in between, and running the gauntlet from pretty and delicate to wearable art, Black Finch is a boutique for those who are serious about beautifully designed jewellery. Prices are attendantly high but the quality is extraordinary, the craftsmanship exemplary and, let's, face it, when it comes to jewellery good stuff don't come cheap.

The house jeweller is this bloke Raymond De Zwart and the best bit is that if you drop by, you can watch him tinkering away in the background while you browse the beautiful rings, bracelets brooches, cufflinks, earrings, necklaces, pendants and the like. There seem to be a few of these designer jewellery shops opening around the place and it's a refreshing change from the big grotesque chain stores cluttering up the landscape. This is jewellery with style, presented in an understated way and it's beautiful to behold.

Filled with a treasure trove of distinctly modern pieces with a good mix of precious stones and innovative materials such as silver, titanium, platinum, enamel, plastics, silk, gold and even paper. I love how going through the generous display cabinets, while examining the inspiration behind some of the most talented jewellery designers. Check out the intricate pieces by Kathryn Wardill, Nicola Bannerman, Jennifer Braithwaite, Linda Hues and Jin Ah Jo. You won't find traditional jewellery here though so if that's what you're looking for - keep looking. Peter Arnold is a kooky man with a strange sense of humour who managed to take in exactly what I wanted and turn it into my dream engagement ring. The carat and clarity of my diamond meant the ring I have would have cost three thousand dollars more than I paid had I brought it from a store. We also got our wedding rings made through him, as well as a ring left to me from my grandmother into a peal ring.
