From the outside, the Old Bank looks pretty special as the front is tall and has quite a traditional design. Inside, there is a variety of seating and the pub makes good use of the space available to provide a comfortable drinking environment. The function room upstairs is also pretty spacious and good for hosting live music events. The food available is nothing special - the usual pub grub and nothing more - but it's worth a go if you're peckish and in there already. The drinks are reasonably priced and they offer a fairly good selection of draught beers as well as various bottled beers and spirits. A lovely pub not far from the station that offers a nice environment to go for a few drinks with friends or a bite to eat.

I don't know what attracts the particularly unsavoury clientele that provoke such poor reputation; the bar itself is nice, when I have been the staff were really welcoming giving money to our group to use the juke box and taking photographs for us, and just generally warm sociable people, unlikely to encourage the behaviour that is so often reported. The bar no longer encourages trouble aiming in my opinion at other 25's with live music being the main focus rather than dance music as the previous bars have been. We tend to call in every weekend and the bar is usualy buzzing, recently theyve kicked off a band night on a thursday which seems to be going really well. Probably the most aesthetically pleasing bar on the road and there's always somesort of entertainment on, deffinately worth calling in.

Most towns must have a least one of these in their local area, maybe even all three. This Edinburgh pub is on College Road in Crosby, and until recently I didn't really know much about it, or even that it existed. From the outside, it looks like a fairly large and traditional pub and inside, the setting is similarly habitual as it offers a comfortable, cosy atmosphere in which to enjoy a pint or two. The place is usually busy with drinkers, many of them regulars, and although it has a bit of an 'old man' feel about it, it's a nice place to drink anyway. Its location just down the road from the nearby AFC Marine football ground also means I'd imagine it'd be a good place to go for a pre or post match pint to deliberate over the day's events, although that may be a reason to avoid it for some people.

The reason that many others do not go here is that it is situated at the bottom end of the village between an almighty crossroads of bypass and Horrocks Avenue before you reach the stretch leading to the Speke retail but the lack of customer services from the underused bar staff will not help its cause. As I entered the gloom I saw only several old men and women scattered about the place and decided I would nip to the loo before grabbing a drink - the scene in there was a bit like a Partidge moment as an old fella struggled to go ('I didn't think in my 20s I'd have to push!') Hastilly leaving I was accosted by one of the old women I had assumed was a punter who bullied me to get a drink for using the lav - there is so little to do they just join in the daytime drinking! The date above the front door is 1924, but the building dates back to 1827. This is a good place to go for a traditional pint and a chat. No sign of a jukebox or a tv. Note the interesting collection of photographs and memorabilia of Liverpool in days of old - particularly the pictures of the Liverpool Overhead Railway which served the docks and ran until 1956, or thereabouts. Note also the old Higsons etched windows and mirror in the public bar. In conclusion, the Volly is a splendid example of a good honest community local, well worth seeking out when in the Waterloo area.

Inside it's not quite so beautiful: a little dark,and dingy, but comfortable. There is a distinct sense that this is a local pub, for local ppeople, in a League of Gentlemen kind of way and the staff can be less attentive to newcomers, though still friendly enough, Service at the bar is good but fthe ood is a little slow. Today was that day when I finally had the opportunity to cross the olde worlde threshold and sample the traditional pub atmosphere and real ales in this Hobbit style tavern. Oh, hmm. Well the beer was cold which was refreshing but the drinks were only limited the very standard high street brands of beers. As for the atmosphere, The Liver Hotel seems to be a real central hub of the community as the mother's meeting I walked in on seemed to suggest. Like its sibling, Stamps Too is a great place to meet up with friends for a few quiet drinks or a few heavy ones before heading out to town. The atmosphere in the pub is relaxed and friendly, helped by the chatty and sociable bar staff. The drinks are fairly reasonably priced, meaning you can get pretty pissed without spending too much money (always a good way to get popular as a drinking establishment) and the ales and lager they have on offer are a lot better than most of the pubs around the area. The open plan of the front of Stamps Too also means that on nice days the pleasant weather is swept into the pub for all to enjoy. Not so pleasant on those horrible days we get quite often, though. Can get quite busy of a night-time, but if you're looking for a nice pint in an enjoyable and sociable atmosphere, I'd highly recommend Stamps Too (or Stamps, for that matter).

The Railway has the potential to be quite a nice pub, but the decor, along with the punters need a bit of a scrub down. There's a small outdoor seating area at the front of the pub but this spot forms the corner of two busy roads and there is little to distract from this or increase customer comfort. While I've never been overtly intimidated by any of the drinkers here, I've never felt very welcome or comfortable enough to approach and enter the place.
