A gated section is for the littlest kids 2 yrs and under to play. The ungated section was definitely where my 3 and 5 yr olds wanted to spend their time. There's a small zip line, but the handles are so high up that a parent would need to lift even a tall 5 year old up so that they can grab the bar. Plenty of grass surrounds the playground. There are 6 picnic tables right next to the playground. Best to reserve those with the city if you're thinking to throw a birthday party there. The weekend we went, there were 3 birthday parties simultaneously. One party had the 6 tables reserved. The other 2 parties brought their own set up and set up on the grass around.

There are so many sections that you can have a picnic or even parties. Looks like they painted the benches and picnic tables and gave them a nice re-vamp. The parking can be a bit tricky but there are different side streets you can access the park in and only a few parking spots right across from it including handicap. I feel the bathrooms could have been a nice remodel as well some of the doors don't close as well and they are a bit rundown. If you have to go they will do but could be a bit more kid friendly and more modern to really add to the park. There are basketball courts and other fun things around for the bigger adults as well over all it's a great park to being the family and friends. My little one enjoyed playing here and meeting some new friends.

The only down fall if there at times there are homeless using the bathroom or hanging out in the bathroom area and that can be scary for the kids cause the play area is right next to them. The kids jungle gym area, slides, swings and other fun monkey bars are great and they are on a huge bed of sand that can be great for older kids but not the babies, but there is a nice grass so you can bring a blanket and still see the kids at play. It would be nice to update the park structures a bit to make it look more inviting but that's just me. Overall it's a great park!

The park has a peaceful, laid-back vibe that makes it easy to spend a few quiet hours here. There's also a covered picnic area with tables and a large stone grill for community use, which is a nice bonus. Street parking along the edges of the park is usually pretty easy to find, which makes visiting stress-free. I was especially impressed with the public restrooms -- surprisingly clean, honestly cleaner than some restaurants I've been to. This is definitely going to be my new go-to park.

We reserved one of the covered pavilions in advance which made for the perfect gathering spot. There were ample picnic tables for us to sit and enjoy each other's company in addition to plenty of space to hang our quilts to admire! This park is located in a quiet residential neighborhood and it felt so peaceful and relaxed. It was clean, accessible, and had trash and recycling areas. There was also plenty of stret parking available, which made my arrival and departure easy peasy! While it's not a massive park with big attractions, it's a beautiful, functional spot for meetups, picnics, or simply spending a few hours outdoors. I'd definitely consider returning for another small group event or a quiet afternoon with a book and blanket or hammock. One of our members even stayed after the meeting to do some spinning (yarn)! All in all, this park is definitely worthy of a solid four stars, it's truly a charming, under-the-radar space for locals and visitors alike.

The playground sits next to the beach and parking - which makes it great for families who want to enjoy the beach while keeping their little ones entertained. Santa Monica did a great job designing this playground to be 100% accessible. The playground is designed like a boat with a concrete hull with various play areas inside and outside. On the outside, there is a swing set area with two types (rubber bucket and fancy larger locking plastic shells) and expansive sand play areas. There are some fun surfboard inspired balance boards on the beach facing side. There are two tables by the swing areas, but lots of low seating along the concrete divider where most parents congregate and rest. Along the outside of the concrete hull there are some cool textures and things to touch. Beware of the rotating metal disks - my toddler jammed his finger between the disk and the concrete. Also watch out for the glass pebbles that are embedded in the concrete wall - they are falling out - so make sure your kid doesn't swallow one. Inside for toddlers at the front of the ship, there are some great activity areas: smaller abacus, spinning blocks, rollerskate maze, and a rotating rainmaking sound captain's wheel. Inside for older kids, there are binoculars to see stuff on the beach, a very wide roller slide, a rocking table/platform, spinning chairs and stands, and a small climbing rope jungle gym.

They used to be horrible double rims, now they're almost indoor court quality. They painted the court blue and made all the lines distinct. They also added metal bleachers. Barrington Recreation Center has changed significantly since new management under Roy took over…read more Open gym for kids is now often denied or restricted even when space is available, which is especially frustrating for families who just want their kids to play. Even small, normal uses of shared spaces like the tennis courts now feel heavily monitored, which takes away from the relaxed, community feel the center used to have. The staff and long-time community members are still wonderful--it's the shift in management that has changed the entire atmosphere. A neighborhood recreation center should feel open and welcoming. Right now, many families feel that balance is gone.

I circled around a bit through a few blocks before chancing on a spot. Walking towards the park, I overheard a few regulars of the park complaining about the commotion. What can you do? There was a smell towards the 7th and California corner, though the majority of the park was cleansed by the gentle ocean breeze, and the restrooms seemed fairly clean. Lots of folks came by for the mahjong event, and it turned out to be a fun little get-together. Beginners and seasoned pros alike shared a table, and even young kids were able to pick up on the gameplay. Haha I was mistaken for a teaching assistant more than once. Playing big mahjong with the cardboard boxed tiles was a unique shared experience, and we did end up winning a round!

You could exercise and have an outdoor workout on the basketball court with your own equipment.
