I was working in Wilmington on a job when my outboard pull cord broke. I found these guys online and stopped by the shop. They were very easy to talk to and had me going in no time. They stopped what they were doing to get me back on the job. I highly recommend these guys for any marine repair service. He even checked out the engine to make sure it was running before I left. On top of that he didn't even charge me anything for labor. You don't see this type of service anymore. Mark did my engine work for years when I had two-stroke motors. I recently had him look at my Yamaha 150 four stroke that was running rough. Turned out I got my wires crossed during a routine spark plug change-out. I would never use anyone other than Mark & Dink!!! I refer everyone to them. They are honest and don't charge you for work not needed. Turn around time is great!! Their experience tops almost everyone in town. I have used several marinas who claim to have great mechanics in the past and they said it was fixed and charged me. We were on vacation over the 4th of July when a sensor alarm started going off on our boat. Based on the manual, it was a fuel filter problem that could cause extensive and expensive damage to the motor. Needless to say, we did not want to run the boat/play in the water any more. We were hauling it back home, on the day of the 4th, disappointed that our plans were basically ruined when we saw the garage door open at Marine Mechanix. We pulled in, rolling the dice that we could be seen, to be met with the owner working on the holiday! He did stop what he was doing to check out the sensor alarm. He pulled the filter to determine there was no water mixing in the fuel (as i mentioned was suggested by the manual) and was able to quickly remedy the actual problem. It took 15 minutes and the alarm sensor was no longer going off. Our vacation was saved! When my husband asked how much we owed, the guy would not take any money. He said it was a simple fix and refused to bill us. Anyone who lives close enough to use Marine Mechanix as their Go To Boat Mechanic is very lucky! While he was working he shared tips and tricks for extending our boat life and maintaining the value like a wise uncle looking after family would do. Trevor Lanphear- 6/9/16. Don't take your business here. My experience with this business is about the same as Bolton S. Dink is fine, did well for me in the past but no longer owns the business. Mark is the owner, only mechanic and estimator. He's arrogant, unprofessional and pathetically clueless as to how to run a business or communicate with customers. Its clear the other guys working there see this as well. My experience; 3 weeks after dropping off my boat with a short list of a solid day of repairs...I finally get Mark to answer my call for a ballpark estimate. I give him the ok to go, he tells me it'll be ready in 2-3 weeks. 3 Weeks later I call again...Mark doesn't remember me, hasn't touched the boat and unbelievably.. isn't willing to re-assess his workload/schedule and call me back later for another time-frame estimate, simply says "that's probably not gonna happen" (a callback). Babbling on about his construction project and Honda motors ( I have a Yamaha...that didn't require any service)...he's clearly not interested so I ask for a recommendation to take it elsewhere and he hangs up mid-sentence. 6 weeks, numerous follow up calls, no repairs and a hang up. I'm between frustration and laughter because the attitude and "customer service" from this guy is so ridiculously bad. Dink has earned an excellent reputation in the Wilmington boating community. Although retired as a mechanic...he'd be wise to move on from this clown. read more
