Earlier in the day I went to the SSA office in San Rafael. The SSA employee who I met with was not helpful and had no interest. Told me since I was a walk-in appointment he had no time for me and I had to leave and make an appointment online. He was probably 60 years old/gray hair. Finally got to see Frank Lloyd Wright's last major design in 1957. He was a famous American Architect known for his creative structure modern design concept. In his 70 years practice, he designed more than 1000 structures including residential. ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Lloyd_Wright) Most buildings are highrise but this civic center was designed horizontally with a span of almost 450 meters long consisting of 3 -4 stories high. This building was built spanding on the top crowns of 3 separate hills. An archway creating for entrance to the buildings , and a road access to parking areas. Limited hours parking on site available with Parking lots in sections. Beautiful Landscaping done in this 82 acre complex with a lagoon adds to the wonderful ambience of the center. This civic center was built in 1960 and houses the county's different community services departments like: Agriculture , Weights & Measures County Clerk Board of Supervisors Community Development Agency Child Support Services Cultural Services District Attorney Departure of Finance Court Collections Fire Department Civil Grand Jury Human Resources Human & Health Services Housing Authority Information & Technology Free County Library Superior Court Public Administrator Public Works Public Defender Registrar of Voters Recorder Retirement Sheriff Tax Collector We were able to walk inside building enjoying the arts on display , and also visited the library. Restrooms are well maintained. The center roof Skylights covering brightens the long hallways while giving sunlight to the center opening overlooking landscaping at the ground level. Here are some tips for success: 1- Call the SSA's 800 # to make an appointment for this office. At the same time ask the person what you should prepare to bring with you (forms, id, other members of the family, etc etc); 2- Arrive for your appt 10 min early so you have time to get through the security check (similar to TSA at airport). There is plenty of FREE Parking there! 3- Be kind to the security check people -- they're just doing their job. 4- Have everything in hand for your appt, so when you're called to go to a Window, you're ready. They will first ask for your ID. 5- Both times I visited this office, the window agents were first rate. They answered all my questions and gave me tips on how to proceed afterwards. I really appreciate the competence + excellence of all the people I've interacted with here.

Well, I have to say that to my amazement this government office is really helpful. Not just today…read morewhen they went out of their way to help me, and really took care to fulfill their mission. Over the years they have been very reliable and truly helpful people. Today, so many government offices are very poorly run (an understatement), and staffed by people who don't even consider that their callers are paying their salaries. However, at this office, every person I have ever spoken with (over the past ten years probably 25) has been amazing. Sure, there have been glitches, but nothing compared to other government offices. Not even close. The people working here, the people answering the phones, they are good people, real people, not robots, and also intelligent and kind. Thank you. You have a hard job, but you help so many people, and stand above the failings of the Social Security offices, and the Unemployment offices.

There was a process failure from DAY ONE, which cost 7 days of school for my daughter (maybe 8 once all is said and done), when it should have only been 3 or 4. The mishandling of our case from instructions to samples being lost, to the explicit failure of expediting our case from the moment of drop off, to the need to pay for care for my daughter while their mishandling kept her out of school, is really unimaginable in any healthcare setting. I work in healthcare, so I understand a great deal of how operations work. I hope I never have to deal with this office again, as I have zero confidence in their abilities.
