The owner and I started chatting and I fell in love with the stores story. A younger married couple putting in a lot of hard work and money to open a quality candy shop with everything made in America isn't something you see anymore. I looked around and found something I knew wouldn't last long in my house, the chocolate Caramel Pecan Turtles mmmmmm. My 13 year old even had appreciation for the packaging and made sure to complement the owner for it. Even though I bought the story of the store and not for the product, I took one bite and fell even more in love with the candy then I did the story. I'm not sure if the box will make it till the end of the day but if not I will for sure be back. I can burn some of those calories and do a couple of laps around the mall if need be. We all need to support these types of stores. They are a dying breed because of the overhead cost. It has become a habit to order something from our cell phones and have it delivered to our door but it's the friendly service and the story behind it we are starting to miss out on. After a free sample of double-dipped chocolate something, we browsed all their baggies of goodies. Since we would be going to see our friend in Mexicali the following weekend, I picked up a bag of colorful popcorn that I was told would taste like Froot Loops. Excellent! At first I figured that was fine, very normal for any retail store, but it became excessive. As we were looking around they were consistently staring at us, making little comments, maybe it was an attempt at banter but we honestly just wanted to browze and it was becoming obnoxious and intrusive. These girls would not read the room and it started getting to a point where I didn't even want to comment on anything because I was living in fear of what might be said in rejoinder. Finally one of the girls started sort of minding her business behind the counter, but the other stood posted up against the wall eating a bag of doritos and staring us down. She had this odd, smug little smile on her face, and still continued to make comments or ask if we needed help. It's candy...it's pretty straight forward...if we need help we'll inquire. Eventually it got to a point where despite having found several products we were interested in, the demeanor and the vibes were so offputting that we literally walked out. I have no idea what was going on but that was the oddest experience I have ever had in a candy store...probably just gonna stick to other options from now on...

The water is reverse osmosis which is the same quality as the water delivery companies. Also, you can come in at your convenience instead of waiting for the delivery truck to drop it off each month. ANNND... if you really can't wait, there is a water dispenser on the outside of the store for 24 hour self-serve water-filling. These external fill stations are a little banged up from vandalism, but the spouts looked clean and still functional. This place is really clean inside which gives me confidence of its sanitation.They have all your water needs and even sell bottles, caps, dispensers, not to mention, little knick-knacks and random novelty items. ANNND... Thrifty ice cream and snow cones and other snacks! Yep, you can be healthy by getting your water and then be unhealthy at the same time by getting some sweet treats. We needed enough water to make our baby's formula and cover our basic needs until morning. I completely understand that I arrived only eight minutes before closing, which is exactly why I brought in only one of my seven jugs. I didn't want to be the customer who comes in right before closing with a large order and keeps the employees there late. As soon as I walked into the store, an employee immediately told me they were "out of water." I thanked them politely, assumed there was nothing that could be done, and walked back to my car. About a minute later, I saw another customer carrying five or six empty water jugs into the store. They were able to begin filling all of them without any issue. Naturally, I was confused because I had just been told the store was out of water. I turned around and went back inside since it was clear there wasn't actually a problem with the water. Once I walked back in, the employee said, "Oh, I guess they're working now." While speaking with the other customers in the store, they also shared that they had initially been told there was no water, but decided to try anyway and it worked. I understand that things happen and equipment can be unpredictable, especially near closing time. However, as the other customer was finishing up, the employee walked over and said, "Well, are you going to pay for that or what?" Both myself and the other customers were stunned not only by what was said, but also by the tone in which it was delivered. The overall attitude made it feel as though we were a burden simply for trying to purchase water and go about our evenings. I completely understand the need to complete closing tasks and manage time efficiently, but there is still a way to do that while maintaining basic customer service and respect.
