I have been a patient of Dr Acebo for over 20 years. In that time I found her to be a caring physician. She is sensitive to the feelings of her patients. Her expert approach to caring for her patients is second to none. I have recommended Dr Acebo to many friends and family members for which they have been grateful. Hands down, the most unprofessional and abusive medical experience I've ever had in my entire life, bar none. This wretched, hole in the wall, battlefield triage clinic of dental butchery is filled with an incompetent gaggle of misandrous shrews. I went in to have an old filling redone, and the dentist assigned to me was an early 20-something girl apparently fresh out of dental school. We seemed to get along great for the first couple of visits (mostly cleanings and simple things). Then next visit was for a filling and as she started drilling, searing pain shot through me and we had to stop. I apologized, explained that I've always had a problem getting numb, but to give me another shot, wait a few minutes and see if I could go on. She did and started drilling again after a few minutes. Wanting to get the filling done, I tried to endure as much pain as I could, but it was too much and while holding my mouth in agony, tears welling up in my eyes, I apologized again, saying that I was sorry and that I wasn't trying to be a difficult patient or make her job harder, but that I was just in incredible pain. She then gave me this look of anger and disgust and walked away shaking her head. Her assistant came afterwards to clean up and said I should come back and try another day. Now, you would think a patient apologizing to her for the pain she was inflicting on them, would prompt her to say something like, "Oh, no need to apologize! It's not your fault. If you're in pain, just let me know so we can try something different." But no, bizarrely she became livid at me like I did something wrong! The look she gave me was like I had insulted her dead mother while slapping her child! I couldn't figure out what the hell just happened. Up until then, we had been very friendly but I saw the look in her face and realized that something had changed and that my next visit to that office wasn't going to be pleasant. But I made a follow up appointment anyway and came back. The 20 something dentist came to the front desk, saw me and dashed off to the back. I could already imagine the entire drama unfolding back there; the lies/story she'd be telling the head dentist about me. The walls are low and paper thin, so even though I couldn't make out much of what she was saying, the insistent, urgent tone and almost hysterical edge to her voice was clear. Whatever story she was cooking up back there, it was a whopper. Immediately, I knew how this was going to go down, but I thought, there was a chance that when the head dentist meets me, she'll see immediately that I'm a totally different person from whatever impression Chicken Little just painted of me to her. However, I left nothing to chance. I became a human Quaalude - just the most zen, peaceful, calm, mild and pleasant person you could ever hope to meet. So when Maria Acebo, the head dentists walked into the room instead of the 20 something, I wasn't surprised. I said, "good morning" in a soft, dulcet tone, smiling gently and was absolutely milquetoast. As predicted, Acebo was curt with me; irritated, in a rush, absent minded and I could see that she trying to find something wrong with me or what I said to justify kicking me out. She went to give me an injection to numb my mouth and I told her about my numbing difficulties, to which she immediately said that I should go to a different dentist that offered general anesthesia. Stunned at her naked effort to get rid of me, I explained that no insurance covers general anesthesia for non surgical procedures so I'd have to have it done under local. But she knew that already and was just trying to pull a fast one. She said she'd make an appointment with a specialist for me, and then I heard her on the phone with another dental clinic, actually trying to transfer me over to them as a patient without my consent! I calmly asked her if that's what she was doing and that's when she finally found something she could use as an excuse to create a fake argument. While I stood there calmly, she exploded in the most absurd, over the top and psychotic display of melodrama rivaling one of the Real Housewives of New Jersey; yelling at the top of her lungs, putting on a wild show for the 20 something dentist and her staff (as well as the patients in the waiting room) and bellowed at me to get out and that I was no longer a patient there and never to come back. The final act of her little soap opera was complete and I left there happily, never wanting to set foot in that viper nest again. Ever since, I've been going to the NYU dental clinic and it's been hands down the best dental experience I've ever had. The students are better dentists than the riff raff employed at Maria Acebo's Tijuana donkey show of a dental practice. Avoid this emotionally unhinged mercurial quack at all costs. Your teeth will thank you for it, as will your blood pressure. read more

I am a new patent at this dental clinic (99-04 57th ave) and I was quite surprised on how fast they put my nerves at ease with their kindness, courtesy and empathy. I am a person with disabilities, and was treated with such proper care, and understanding for my oral health that I can only assume that this is how they treat everyone. I recommend Dr. Acebo without exception. Sometimes I've had to wait in the waiting room beyond my appointment time, but it's been worth it. She is skillful, conscientious, honest and very, very patient, she also has a very gentle touch in the pain department! I being suffering with my mouth since I was 10 years old changing dentist every 6 months until I found her. She will explain things to you so that you understand, and she'll answer any questions you might have. I recommend Dr. Acebo without exception. Had many procedures done root canal among them this woman is such a good dentist I experienced no pain and was able to eat within two hours. I am deathly afraid of the dentist but this was my best experience ever. She has great patient manners and is very compassionate. She took her time when others would have given up on me as a patient. I have been a patient of Dr. Acebo since I was only a child. In every visit, she has been very thorough in examining my teeth and continues to be. It is often very difficult to find a dentist who cares so much about your oral hygiene as much as Dr. Acebo does. It is also difficult to find a dentist who can also make these visits as comfortable as possible. She makes you feel welcome as a person and not just a patient. I find that many people fear the dentist, but Dr. Acebo makes that effort to ensure that everything goes smoothly. She pays attention to detail and makes sure everything is perfect. The cleanings are so thorough that you will feel like you have left with a new set of teeth! When I had to get my cavities filled, the tooth that needed to be filled looked like new, like the cavity was never there to begin with. The color of the material used to fill my cavity was the same as my tooth color! She also made sure that the bite was perfect to avoid any future problems had the bite not been corrected. Even though I haven't had any major work done, if the day ever comes, I can only trust Dr. Acebo with my teeth. I can't even give this Maria Acebo one star. I went in for a regular cleaning, as soon as I sat down she walk in doesn't say hello and start working on my top teeth then gets up and walks away with out telling me anything. The assistant had to tell me I was done. I was confused because she didn't work on my bottom teeth. The girl in the front desk had to tell me that I had to come back for the bottom. I DIDN'T KNOW IT REQUIRE TWO VISIT FOR A REGULAR CLEANING. I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S HOW SHE DOES IT TO CHARGE MY INSURANCE COMPANY MORE MONEY. I HATE MARIA ACEBO. DO NOT GO TO HER . read more

This practice is by far the most unprofessional I have ever been to. The dentist, Maria Acebo does notrespect her patients in the least bit. I had a follow up appointment with her at 1pm on a Saturday. I arrived at 12:25pm, signed the sign in sheet and took a seat. At 1:25pm I was called to have a seat in one of the rooms. At 2:00pm the dentist walks in and tells me that Saturday's are not good days to come in. I couldn't believe her condescending tone. I answered her by asking if Saturday is not a good day then why does she take patients on Saturday? To my surprise she said, "Saturday's are for people who want to wait a long time to be seen". She actually said this to me and did so with a nasty attitude. Not once did she apologize for the wait. Instead she blamed me for making a Saturday appointment. I have never been spoken to that way by a medical professional who was receiving my business. The conversation went down hill from there. I calmly removed the napkin around my neck and proceeded to leave the office. I will never give this dentist my business again and I strongly recommend you avoid her too. I have been a patient of Maria Acebo for over 20 years and have always found her to be pleasant and professional. Before I started to see her I had a very expensive dentist in manhattan who I dreaded even going to get my teeth cleaned because I would be in pain and not able to eat anything solid for 2 days. Maria has a really gentle touch and is very sensitive to your needs. I was really surprised to see the review from the one gentleman who says he had such a bad experience in her office. I now have 2 children, aged 12 & 8 and although Dr.Acebo is not primarily a children's dentist, I wouldn't trust their dental care to anyone else. She and her staff have always been so sweet and patient to my kids it's hard for me to believe that things went down the way he says it did. Between myself, my husband, and 2 children we are in her office at least 6 times a year and none of us have ever encountered any negativity from anyone in her staff. I hope she never leaves New York because she's definitely my family dentist for life! read more

More than 40 years ago I had a car accident where, on impact, I banged my mouth very hard against the steering wheel. Ever since then I've had a lifetime of problems with my teeth, which has included undergoing just about every dental procedure possible and visiting many, many dentists. Obviously in four decades there have been some good dentists and some not so good--and some I'd like to erase from my memory altogether. I can honestly say that Dr. Acebo, who I've been seeing for the last dozen years or so, is among the very best. She is skillful, conscientious, honest and very, very patient. (And she also has a very gentle touch in the pain department!) She will explain things to you so that you understand, and she'll answer any questions you might have. If she feels you'd be better off seeing a specialist for a particular procedure, she will recommend one to you and not try to create additional business for herself by attempting the work herself. (All the fellow dentists and specialists she's sent me to through the years have also turned out to be excellent.) I recommend Dr. Acebo without exception. Sometimes I've had to wait in the waiting room beyond my appointment time, but it's been worth it. I know she's probably being just as thorough and careful with a patient as she's always been with me. read more

I have to say I have been to many dentists and Dr. Acebo is a wonderful caring doctor. I wanted to trust my dental work to someone who was competent and capable. In the end my work turned out better than I could have expected. The crowns and even implants I had done were perfect, and Dry Acebo noticed things I didn't even see, she made sure it was the best it could be. This place is a find and I see myself staying with this dentist. You know it is hard to know who is good when it come to picking a dentist, especially if you need lots of work, who do you trust. Although, I was not treated well, I am a strong believer that God can change her heart if she believes in God.
