My first visit I was going to a wedding and no time to do my hair so decided to stop by and get a wash and blow. I was presently surprised! The salon is very clean and welcoming. I don't speak Spanish but everyone was nice and understood me. Maria and the front desk young lady speaks english so don't feel like you need to speak spanish to check them out. I've come by a few times now and Maria did a great job of cutting my hair as well. The only salon in florida that I feel comfortable in and allow to do my hair. Maria's DR Salon is top notch. I have searched for years for a natural hair salon for my multi ethnic hair. Maria saved my hair from damaging relaxers and coloring chemicals. I was balded by a jcpenny master stylist who used a relaxer, perm. dye and bleach stripper in my hair all at the same time. My hair turned orange and fell out. It had to be crew cut. My five year-old needed a haircut and since I am fairly new to the area I did a Yelp search for a salon nearby. My first option didn't have appointments available for today, so I went to Maria's DR Salon. To be perfectly honest, there isn't much to the salon at first glance, but like my dad used to tell me, "Never judge a book by its cover." We were instantly welcomed and asked what kind of haircut we had in mind for my daughter. After showing the stylist a few styles I found online we settled in and started. My daughter's hair was thoroughly washed and deep conditioned. My child despises brushing her hair, but the stylist had this serenity about her and it was definitely contagious. My daughter wanted to donate her hair so the stylist made sure to cut the ponytail carefully. The magic didn't end there. I suppose there's nothing technical I can comment about given that I'm not an expert in hair-cuttery; however the stylist was thorough making sure the length and layers were perfect. While my daughter was getting her haircut, I was observing the other stylists. They are magicians when dealing with course, ethnic hair. For real, it was amazing to watch someone walking in with average hair and walking out ready for a stroll down a catwalk at a hair show. Amazing. My daughter was positively thrilled, so much that I immediately asked for a consultation for myself and quote as well as an appointment for next weekend. I can't wait. I loved this salon. The experience was great and the staff was friendly. I brought my 7 year old, with thick 3c hair, for her first blowout and left really satisfied with her results. She was so excited and we were so glad to have found this salon! Fast forward to 2 weeks later when we decided to wash it out and we discovered she has SEVERE heat damage. It's been about 2 months and we've run the gamut of protein treatments, deep conditioning, hot oil etc. Her hair is 2b, 2c, and even stick straight In some places, and at this point we have just resolved to keep it braided til it grows out. If you have natural hair, this is NOT the place for you. Not only did they pressure me into cutting my split ends, but they cut way more off than they needed to. Then when I went to wash my hair 2 weeks later my curl pattern was destroyed. I'm left with extreme heat damage and non existent curls. I had a great experience at Maria DR Salon. Even though I booked online, they didn't seem to have the appointment but they made me sign the guest book. I was received by Maria, she is very nice and attentive. They washed my hair, put the rollers on, then finally they finished up the styling with the flat iron. When I tough we were done, the wrap my hair with plastic and put me back to the drier. They say it was for a better touch up! They offered me water and wine, while I was waiting. I had a horrible experience with a salon on Colonial where the stylist made me wait while she colored her own hair in between doing mine and it was my one year old's birthday. Never went back.
