Lanes through it are walkable or driveable. There are rows of neat headstones. The grass is well trimmed. But there's one particularly interesting plot: Timothy Clark Smith. Mister Clark designed and rigged his own tomb in an attempt to prevent his nightmare of an undesirable outcome. He installed a set of stairs underneath a large square capstone beside his burial mound, and is said to have been buried with a bell in his hand and a breathing tube. The most noticeable piece is the horizontal window he installed, six feet above and centered on his face. However, he was buried in 1893 and you can only see a few inches into the six-foot-long tomb as the glass has aged and there is quite a lot of moisture. There are no accounts that his burial was anything other than normal. The cemetery is open 24 hours. Mister Clark's grave is noticeable for the mound around it and the square concrete above it. If it's rained recently, watch your step on the incline. [Review 18492 overall - 91 in Vermont - 2014 of 2022.]

Recently we had a service for my mother and once again, they went above and beyond to make an incredibly difficult time as easy as possible. My family and I worked with Angie to arrange the service, and she was professional, attentive and empathetic. She provided me with her personal contact information and made herself available at any time to answer questions and help to navigate all of the final directives. She not only provided recommendations for the services, she personalized everything to tribute my mother, down to florist recommendations. Angie, I can not thank you enough for guiding us through such a difficult time and providing us with a perfect experience. I know my mother would have loved everything, and she could be very difficult to please.

They didn't charge for services and wouldn't take a dime over the price of the urn, which means they paid for the paperwork fees themselves, but they treated us like we were spending top $. But the 5 stars are not for the free service, but for being amazingly accommodating and thoughtful; Cliff even offered to bring the remains of my son home, so we wouldn't have to go over there again. They know we don't have any family here, so their fantastic service was not motivated by the prospect of future business.

During the very sad, overwhelming and emotional times after losing a loved one, it's comforting to know that SHB is available to shoulder the task and help you and your family navigate through the storm. In confusing and uncharted journeys, it's important to have trusted and highly experienced professionals available to help. Once again, after losing a close relative last October, we are appreciative of the professional manner that the arrangements for our cousin were planned and perfectly executed by SHB.

Driven by this location many time was pretty surprised by the ease of getting in and getting out as the funeral was promptly after the business day concluded. There were ushers helping us park cars as it was a large gathering from in and out of state that was here to bid farewell to a friend and family. The lot was pretty tight yet served us well as I didn't have to fight for a spot and was heading inside. The staircase leading upstairs from the lot that I had parked was beautiful, though we all were dressed in black attire. Two different rooms for seating and the bigger room held the casket and visitors came to pay their respects. A decently sizes funeral home that some had to squeeze by others while there was still areas for groups to congregate. I imagine that a lot of thought and preparation was put into honoring this man and this funeral home did him justice. Cannot speak to the procession the day after to the cemetery as I couldn't attend but I imagine thar it was well organized and handle the business of the Elmwood West Hartford area.

But I love my mom so much, and I heard that the services at that particular funeral home were going downhill. Then I remembered Clancy Palumbo when they took care of my God mother, and it was amazing. So I chose them after talking with Chris for 5 minutes. Even though I didn't live in town anymore. Even though it was about 45 minutes away from me, I knew and felt that this was the right choice for me and my family. I can't say enough about the care, attention to detail, and compassion Chris and his staff showed me and my family. I didn't feel like I was being sold things that I didn't need, the process was transparent and Chris made it go as seamless as possible. There was no detail that went unnoticed. The logistics were handled with great ease. There were so many small details that Chris did that literally made me weep with gratitude. Even though our services were small, Chris made us feel like my mother and our grief mattered. I know in my heart that this man is not doing this work to get rich. He does it because it is his calling. He has my families gratitude and love forever. My prayer is that when I pass, Chris and the team at Clancy-Palumbo will take care of me. Don't look anywhere else. Exceptional service that I would recommend to everyone. God bless Chris and his team.
