I've been going…read moresince I was a kid (back when schools gave out free tickets), and going back recently, the midway feels smaller but you're paying the same--if not more--for fewer rides. The food is still the main draw, but it adds up fast. Most things are $12-$20 (and you have to use coupons), so your money goes quick. Go with friends and split everything if you actually want to try stuff. If you're coming for rides, you'll be disappointed. It's better to go on a day with a concert or the rodeo so it feels more worth it. Parking is ass and expensive. Take the train--it drops you right in front and saves you the headache.

I will go out on a limb here, I don't believe you will find a better Bluegrass festival anywhere in the country. 'But this Texas, there ain't any Bluegrass here'-you might say. Well you would be wrong. It's alive and very well right here in Framers Branch. Every act could be or has been or will be a headliner at any other festival that usually might have only one 'big name'. I have managed in two events to see everyone of my favorites. If you love great musicianship and acoustic music this is a can't miss show. I am anxious to see who will come next year. Lamb sliders and fries was our next choice, nothing special there either. Again, store bought slider buns and not enough meat, not tasty, fries also stay under a heat lamp, the frozen type of course. Like can you guys make some effort at least??? Fast paced, long lines, order, pay, GET OUT!!! We were not impressed at all. Best thing was the baklava sundae for sure. So... bye bye OPA! The first time, our GPS said we were 1.4 miles from the entrance... that's how FAR back the line stretched not counting the winding roads after the entrance gate. Traffic management is nonexistent past the gate: no cones, no staff, just cars blocking intersections and nearly colliding in the dark. By the time you finally make it inside, you're shoulder-to-shoulder in a packed crowd, too stressed to enjoy the lights. Save your money and sanity. Go to a haunted house instead. At least the fear and stress there is intentional and a shorter wait time. I won't make the mistake of coming back ever in the future.

The food average around $5, but the portions are small. This is a free, one day event. It is open to the public. Tickets are required for food. Same location each year at some random parking lot on Midway, between 635 and Alpha. Plenty of parking spots. It's so hot every year and this is an outside event. I suggest having this event in the beginning of Oct. for better weather.

The location is easy to find on the side of the huge Super H Mart mall. The food vendors really show out, by serving their best dishes. You use credit or cash to by tickets for food purchases. 2 hungry adults can fill up on about 15 tickets total. The tickets are $2 each. A glutton, like me, can expect to spend 15 tickets, alone - to get that warm, comfortable feeling. The atmosphere is happy and vibrant. There is also a stage, with constant music and entertainment. This is definitely an annual DFW, must-do event. Don't miss out next year!

While it always seems like a good idea to be in the front, I would recommend to claim a spot towards the middle or back of the lawn. At around 9ish it will be packed, the sun goes down and the crowd starts dancing. At this time people at the front will kinda get pushed out of the way. Plus, the music can get a little loud. You'll be a lot more comfortable and have a view a little further back anyways. I hope they can continue to have this event, it's pretty sweet!
