We went to see the fantastic four movie 3. The chairs were so cozy and we could create a sllovr sofa out of them by removing the arm rest between our seats. The chairs were also recliner so we could really get comfy. We were also able to order alcoholic beverages for our movie viewing as well. Overall, compared to Canadian theatres, I would consider the theatres in America to be an attraction and far more superior than any Canadian theatre that I have ever been in. Definitely worth it to have the experience if you ever go to America because it is completely different than Canada. read more

Great location, and they reimburse the $5 parking off your movie ticket purchase. Fantastic new recliner seats. Except the UltraScreen (similar to imax) which is the standard steep stadium seating. Seems like the entire place is reserved seating as well so you can get seats together the night before and not stress out about getting there crazy early. I'd recommend top 3 rows for action movies on the UltraScreen since it can be overwhelming any further down. Kiosks in lobby for credit/debit cards so you can avoid the line. I used to love this place- but recently, I had went to a movie at 7:00, as I was leaving, I left my phone in theatre 8 (seat F5 to be exact). I didn't realize I left it until I arrived in carlton- 30some miles away. So I made the trip all the way back to ask if I could grab it quickly and leave before someone stole it. The manager, associate, whatever, "Tycson" working the front desk along with another female employee would not let us go in the theater. So i politely asked if he, or another employee could check for me. He rudely refused and told us to come back in the morning. We came back three separate times to reconcile or come to an agreement and he would not budge. So we had to BUY TICKETS to that current showing. And in a matter of 3 minutes I walked in the theater with a total of 4 people in it, went to the seat and found my phone. I paid 30 dollars for my boyfriend and I to walk into a theater for my phone. We went to our seats and another couple was there. They said ""oh sorry someone took our seats" and wouldn't move. So we went to the very first row (horrid to watch a movie) and the first two seats we went to were broken so we kept moving down the row. Prices online are more than in person plus there is the convenience fee online. After all that we didn't even get the seats we reserved. Ordered concessions a head of time and they were not ready when they were supposed to be. The popcorn was in tiny pieces and full of kernels. I couldn't eat it without a spoon. It was impossible to pick up but even if I could have I would have risked a chipped a tooth on a kernel with each bite. read more

Disclaimer: This incident was from winter of 2020, so not sure if their "bag"'policy is still in effect. We took an Uber from our hotel to the theater to see a late night showing. I had my canvas shoulder bag with me that had a pair of headphones and my wallet in it. After paying for my ticket, the employee working at the counter asked me to place my bag in the square outline they had taped to the counter. It had a long shoulder strap and they said the strap had to fit in the square too. I laughed and they told me to put the bag in my car. I told them the Uber just left and that we didn't have a car to put my bag into. The manager said they would refund our tickets then as it is a safety standard that they could not negotiate. As I was stating that my bag was literally empty, three teenagers bought tickets and walked past us wrapped in very large sleeping bags. No one asked them to see if anything was concealed under their blankets, because my empty bag was clearly the red flag. I took everything out and put it all in my pockets, rolled up my canvas bag, and put that in my pocket too. Then they let me in. I understand wanting to have some sort of sense of safety in your business, but when common sense doesn't play a role in the execution, all you're left with is an illusion of safety and a poor Yelp review. read more

The seats are not bad....recline-y, moveable arm rests, and there's actually little cushions in between the seats, so there's no gap. The kiddie combo includes a drink, a popcorn, and a treat. I asked what the treat was......graham crackers? You've gotta be shitting me. No kid I know would gladly take graham crackers into the theater as their "treat". Woo! Gotta love Duluth ticket prices! Great place to watch a movie. Comfortable stadium seats. The seats also recline a bit. Had to pay for parking, but you get the parking cost discounted if you bring in the ticket for it. Large portions in the concession stand too. Only thing that I didn't care for was the 15 minutes of previews prior to the movie starting. The previews didn't start til the movie was supposed to. I checked my watch at the end of each preview after the third one. Thought that was a little over the top for starting the movie. They also have good deals for students on Thursdays if they show their student ID. read more

Love Marcus Theatres! The only thing I didn't like about this venue is that the ultra-screen seat rows are very steeply arranged and the gap between two rows, the walking aisle, is very narrow. Walking to my seat feels dangerous and I felt like I could easily fall. Also, there's not a lot of leg room, so the people behind me were constantly kicking the back of my seat and I felt uncomfortable where I was because i was afraid that if I were to reposition my legs at all, I'd kick the person in front of me's seat too. I never had a problem with this at the Oakdale venue since they have the dream lounges, but maybe this venue could do change to those in the future. read more

Theater is nice but if you want a drink to enjoy the movie bring your ID even if you like you are 50. The bar tender refused to serve my wife because she said she needed to see her license to see if it had any restrictions to serving booze. What a crock. I'm not an avid moviegoer, but when I do go it's nice to have a theater near popular restaurants with a spectacular view of Lake Superior. Every time I'm at this cinema, I grab a beverage at the bar and some popcorn and whether the movie is great or terrible, it's always a pleasant experience. The movie theater is average but if you order a concession from ZAFFIRO'S EXPRESS (pizza, burgers, appetizers, etc.) be prepared to wait. It took them 20 minutes to make mini donuts and they weren't busy at all. They had one other customer ahead of us but didn't put our donuts in until I said something after we'd already waited 15 minutes. Marcus Theaters in Duluth is in a cool location being next to canal, a bunch of restaurants, and much more. They remodeled Marcus theaters not too long ago and put all new seating throughout the theaters. The dream loungers are Amazing. Every time I've gone to Marcus theaters on a Friday or Saturday night they have 1 person doing tickets when there are 30+ people in line. When you manage to get past the movie line to get popcorn/pop they'll have one person taking over the food station. So once again you're waiting in a huge line. They have many registers but only one open every time I'm there. Doesn't make much sense for busy nights. Some of the staff stand around looking like they hate their jobs. In the past I've encountered many rude staff members and nothing done about it. So last night my brother and I went to see the new IT movie that came out, we got a small popcorn, Dino tray, and pops. We asked the concessions girl to make sure they only put a little bit of butter on the popcorn (last time we had the popcorn from there we both got extremely sick) and she didn't pay attention to us and doused the popcorn in butter. We let it go and just walked it off. We got to our seats and the popcorn was so gross we both threw ours away before the movie even started. So we went back and got some candy instead. Way later that night we both got extremely sick from the popcorn again. Not sure if it's the butter or the oil they use to cook the popcorn, but whatever it is, made us both very ill. I'll save the details. I love the Marcus theater, I think it's a fun place to go even though prices are ridiculous. The popcorn is complete crap and the service there isn't much better. I hope in the future they can change some of these negatives and make them positives. read more

I called ahead to make sure that the captive view and hearing assistant were charged. I found out that the captive view for that movie (even though it says it works for that movie) did not work. Also the hearing assistance that I called for to make sure was charged wasn't even charge. they gave me a free movie pass only if I come before 5:30pm. read more

The new recliner seating is great and the remodel looks like it will be really nice BUT they have to do something about their projection issues. I saw a movie in the Ultra theater recently and it looked okay-adequate at least. Saw the same movie in the theater with the new recliners and the movie looked like a washed out, grey non-HD TV in a larger format. REALLY disappointing. My family saw Guardians of the Galaxy in the Roseville theater and it was amazing. Spend some money on quality projectors please. These aren't just bad, they are remarkably and obviously bad. read more

I have really come to dislike this movie theater. It needs new management or something. The last three times I have been there their cooking oven has been out of order and it is still not fixed; we are looking at now almost a month! If you don't like popcorn this leaves you with no other option for munchies than nachos. This Theater's staff is awful! They are rude, disrespectful and poorly trained. They appear annoyed when you buy a ticket because they had to stop socializing to help you. They intimidate young movie goers by making them pay full price on $5 student day when they don't have an ID. 13 year olds don't have ID school or otherwise and Marcus corporate policy is that any Elementary, Middle School, or High School student does not have to produce an ID to get a student ticket. I have had bad service over and over again. Guess I am out of luck Movies at home or in the cities because I refuse to pay to have myself and family treated so badly. read more

I have been there many times and noticed how dim the movie playing is. I told the manager on duty that the glass that the projector plays through is filthy hence making the movie at sometimes barely able to see. Still filthy after all these years. I really love this theater - spacious, close to the restaurants along Canal Park, very clean. As far as the parking fee - if you bring in the payment stub given to you by the parking attendant, it can be used as credit against the price of your ticket, so parking is somewhat "free". LOVE being able to use the UltraScreen purchasing option online for big premieres and have assigned seats! read more

They have a great surroundsound system and the projection for the film is amazing. That is where me and my family go for all of the movies we watch in the theater. Those pictures of the theater are mostly just because people drop popcorn or are not respectful of the cleaning crew. Overall they have a good and sanitary workplace though. My husband and I came to Duluth for a little getaway after Christmas. We decided to take in a movie since it was so cold out. We arrived 30min prior to our movie and found our seats. A young lady came in and said to leave the theater and stand in the hallway, she needed to clean. Our row hadn't been used from the previous showing, so we politely greeted her and asked if it was alright that we stayed behind while she cleaned. She said no, we need to get up now and get out. Her tone of voice, her body language and overall demeanor was extremely rude. I'm all for cleaning, in fact, this place needs it...BADLY! See pictures below! I would have taken pictures of the inside of the screen rooms, but we were asked to leave by this young lady. To be that rude to polite customers is inexcusable. We went to the front desk and asked to speak with the manager...guess who the manager was. The same snotty girl. And her answer was I wasn't rude, you don't know what you're talking about and walked away. Wow...just wow. I thought Duluth was a much friendlier place than this. Will never again go back to this theater! My best friend and I were staying at the Holiday Inn In Duluth MN and had been taking most of the skyways to get to canal park and shops. We decided to see a movie Saturday night since we thought it would be a fun way to end the night. We walked thru the skyway to get to get to the theater. The lady working saw us walk down the stairs from the skyway. we buy our tickets and walked to our theater number only to be told we have to wait in the lobby because our movie didnt start for another 20 mins and it hadnt been cleaned. We sat in the lobby until 5 mins before our movie. We get back into the theater and notice that it still wasnt clean so we sat in the lobby for NO REASON! There was a rude family that decided to sit right behind us and let their kid sing and kick our chairs thru the ENTIRE movie even after asking them to stop. Keep in mind there was only about 7 people in the theater. After the movie was over at about 1030 we went to walk up the stairs to get back to the skyway to leave and the put the gate down. They would not open the gate nor did they tell us they would put it down. We ended up having to walk out the main down into pouring rain just to have the doors lock behind us. We arent from Duluth and were trying to figure out where we were to get back to the hotel. Not only was this place FILTHY, there were a ton of RUDE people including staff! who does that? if you see someone walking out of the skyway why not mention "hey we close this at this time, just to let you know" We had no taxi numbers for a cab to get back to the hotel. We ended up walking in the rain around 1045 just to find a parking ramp that would connect us to park of the skyway to walk back to the hotel. Overall, Staff was friendly but lazy and inconsiderate of customers. People were rude in the theater and the quality of the seats and space were horrible. Soooooo not worth the price! I would have rather sat and watched some stupid cartoon at the hotel than ever go back to this theater! LOOK ELSEWHERE! read more

I went to go see Murder On the Orient Express on November 10th 2017. And when I got to the theater they switched the movie to a new time slot and new seating as well, which meant they sold my seat out from underneath me and five of my family members. I don't understand why they're is assigned seating at movie theaters. The fun of going to a movie is to sit where you want and watch a movie, and now you have to sit in an assigned seat like a third grader. What a joke! Very rude customer service. I went with my friends to a Rated R movie at Marcus Cinema. We understand that we have to have our IDs when attending a rated R movie. However one of us didn't have theirs so we weren't able to get in. That wasn't the issue. The issue was that the lady selling tickets was very rude in the process. I went first to buy a ticket and didn't have my ID with me but it was in the car. I then asked if I was able to show my college ID. Instead of saying sorry that isn't allowed or using actual words the lady just shook her head and gave me a discourteous look. I then went out to grab my ID while my other friends tried to get tickets. My friends are identical twins and one of them didn't have their ID. They then asked if it would be okay if they both used that ID. Again, we understand that this isn't allowed but it was worth a shot. She was very rude, instead of just saying sorry we don't allow that here. We then left and decided to call the manager. We called the manager to leave a complaint about our experience. The manager never asked for a name of the employee leading us to believe that the lady behind the counter could have been the manger. In this case, Duluth Cinema should review their employees and managers on what good customer service is. If the manager wasn't the lady selling tickets, then the real manager didn't seem to care about our experience or our complaint. Overall, the experience was a very bad one and we usually love coming here to watch movies. read more
