I stopped watching movies in the theater because of the increasing prices, phobia of crowded places, and sick of sitting in seats comparable to United Airlines. Marcus Cinemas in Addison brought me back to enjoying movies and gave me a five star experience. For the same price as most theaters, you get reclining seats with plenty of leg room and a reserved spot of your choice. If you avoid crowds like me, then you'll appreciate that Marcus Cinema is hardly busy at all. We watched X-Men Days of Future Past opening weekend and was shocked at how many open seats there were. Clean, roomy seats, and smaller theater with less crowds. It's even $5 on Tuesdays for any movie all day. read more

It is truly by accident we are here. We were on our way to Venuti's when my boyfriend went the wrong way on Lake St off I-355 tonight. We planned on going to a late show at AMC Woodfield. Since we're in the area, never been to this theater before, never heard of this place, we thought we'd give it a try. From the outside, it looks like Muvico meets iPic. All day Tue is $5 for a movie ticket but today is a Saturday night. The price for a seat is $11.25 (this price doesn't seem right). Personally, I'd rather be here on a Tuesday or any day that isn't a weekend. We had some time, we decided to park and check out the movie times from inside. When we first walked in, it was crazy chaotic with a lot of screaming children and adults shoving their way through the people waiting in line to purchase a ticket. If we were buying tickets for that showtime, I don't think we would've stayed. We stood in line and bought tickets for a later showing of The Imitation Game. We're back and I'm so glad we waited. The kids and crowds are gone. The one bald (sorry!) employee cleaning the lobby/reception area was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about movies. I enjoyed having a chat and learning more about the actor in The Imitation Game than I needed to know. While he did a great job sweeping the main lobby, concession and tables in the back corner area,, someone left the ladies' rooms atrocious! They have all the normal concessions, a menu from their restaurant and a full bar. ALL RECLINING pleather/leather seats are pre-assigned. They're cheaper than the ones at iPic! It's a little out of our way but I know we'll be back again. read more

I think this is one of the best theaters in the area. Reserved seating with reclining chairs is the way to go. It changes the way you see movies cause now you don't have to get there early to clamor for a seat. You might have to plan a little more ahead to see a popular movie because most will be sold out or only have the front row available. In the past you might enter a theatre and the only seats available were front row. By then, you've already invested time so you would just take the seat. But now you can just decide to do something else. They have deals on Tuesday which others have mentioned. read more

We went to see Alice back in May and when I went to the restroom a toilet full of urine had overflowed on to the floor. People were screaming as is soaked their shoes. No employees came to see what was wrong, so I found someone to tell. They seemed indifferent and were on no rush to get to the bathroom. Fast forward to today, my boyfriend and I went to see X-Men For my birthday. Again the bathrooms were horrendous. I went before the movie started and it was Dirty with toilet paper all over the floor and pee on the seats. I found a clean stall and it had no toilet paper. Then I went to wash my hands and there was no paper towel. I told an employee who replied with "yeah I know... I sent someone to fill it..." Obviously not how you talk to a customer and no apology. This is a common tread with the employees. No respect or concern for customers. I went to use the same restroom after the 2.5 hour movie and it was still sans toilet paper and paper towel. In addition, my soda was flat. I told the person at the concession stand and asked for a new glass so I didn't overflow the spill tray. The individual's response to me was "so why don't you dump it and refill it?" Again lack of respect and customer service. I have seen attempts at fixing the problem of long lines at the concession stand. More registers were over, but there really are not any lines. It is a bit of a free for all with no structure for the employees of customers. Onto the theater, there was spilled popcorn on me seat so I am guessing the theater wasn't cleaned. Also, the air conditioning wasn't working. Either it was not turned on high enough or it wasn't on at all. We were very uncomfortable throughout the duration of the movie. I was literally sweating and that doesn't happen to me very easily. I spoke to the assistant manager about the ongoing issues and she seemed aware they were occurring but didn't really have a solution other than to offer me a free pass to come back. I doubt at this point I will be able to convince my boyfriend to return. We have given the theater multiple chances to redeem themselves (on special $5 days as well as full price days) and have not seen much improvement. This is disappointing especially since the theater was so nice when they first got the reclining seats. read more

I'm torn here. I've been going to Marcus since high school. There is a nostalogic sentiment I have towards it, and I love the value that Marcus provides on Tuesdays, and the reserved seating is ideal, but in the last couple of years you can start really seeing the wear and tear of the recliners due to the abundance of customers, and decline in the overall movie experience at the theatre. Tuesdays' $5 deal is even rough now to because it's just so crowded and sometimes the other viewers of the films are just there to fill time and are just obnoxious i.e. talking thorough out the film (unfortunately this has been happening more often than not). Then I try to justify going to Marcus outside of Tuesdays and realized that the worn padding and rips on the chairs is not worth the price. Marcus is a good value if you are willing to weather the crowds, and don't mind the worn recliners that's prolly similar to your uncle's 15 year old La Z Boy that he isn't willing to replace. No Marcus is no longer an expectional venue for the movie experience on a regular day, but it's value on watching that B-class movie that you kinda want to watch it's definitely worth the $5. read more

Leather reclining seats That is all. I bought tickets for a different theatre long ago, for Star Wars. Most theaters I go to never have leather reclining seats. This particular theatre stated they had leather seats which would have been a nice addition. However for some reason they were repairing the seats or something. Not a big deal since I don't expect leather reclining seats. However this theatre, has leather reclining seats. I did not expect anything from this theatre. I just like driving to some of the most random places to watch movies. I got there and enjoyed the use of a leather reclining seat. Perhaps too much so, to the point that I fell asleep during the film. I also had a few drinks in my system. That compounded effect made me miss a great film. Regardless an unique experience, no doubt. I recommend watching films here sober or a drink or two in. Otherwise you might fall asleep in their ultra comfy leather reclining seats. Nice, cushy, oversized chairs and liquor with your movie. Win! Win! I wasn't sure what to expect here, but it's a nice, clean theater and a great place to catch a flick! I've only seen a couple movies here. The seating isn't uncomfortable, but I prefer the kind you can recline in and raise the armrests, which aren't available here. Their drinks are self-serve, which is interesting and really convenient (no waiting in line to get a refill while you miss 5 minutes of the movie!) I come here all the time to play Dance Dance Revolution, though. They pretty much know me here. You might have a hard time with the people at the box office if you just want to play games, but just politely ask to speak to the manager if your aim is just to get some DDR action in :). read more

Tuesday's are the best. $5 admission and free popcorn for members. Becoming a member is free and easy peasy. I love being able to pay and pick my seat using the app. When you get in the theater it can get crazy busy, but if you buy tickets online you don't even have wait in lines. There's someone who can scan your phone. That is sweet. The concession stand has good variety. The seats are big comfy reclining seats perfect to cuddle up or just get comfortable. Best seats! The thing that was a bit off was the auditorium hadn't been cleaned when we got in.... Like it was really bad. Popcorn all over the floors. But for the value I am getting on a Tuesday I wasn't that upset about it. I dig this place. The parking and the snacks are plentiful, the seats are Dreamloungers, and the movies are $5 on Tuesdays! They also do reserved seating here (anywhere there are Dreamloungers, basically) and you can buy tickets online. The staff are always courteous. In the winter bring a blanket and tell me you're not so comfy you could nap in those seats! FYI the $5 deal draws a crowd so get there early cause there's pretty much always a line for concessions that day. read more

So last night I took my son & nephew to watch the Avengers in 3D, we've been waiting for this movie for quite some time now. I had to use my credit card to print out our tickets, after about 1 1/2 hr in the movie, the movie screen goes completely black. Five minutes later another movie pops up. Some weird Sy-Fy robot vs Humans on a FX channel plays for about 15 mins. Screen goes blank for a second time, a staff member walked in and asked how far along the movie was before going out, we all agreed about a hour & half. Whoever was responsible for the fast forwarding, went past the last scene we saw by 10 minutes ( which we never seen ). This was not the experience i wanted me and my family to have while watching the last AVENGER movie. I spoke to one of the staff members to request a refund, the manager/employee said he would normally do it, but, the computers are down, come back tomorrow. Came back the next morning, spoke to the assistant manager Rich, I explain the situation to him, and he proceeds to ask for my tickets from last night. I'm not sure about you guys, but I dont save my movie tickets. I gave him my debit card to look up my purchase, because thats what i used to get my tickets in the first place. Rich says he doesn't see my purchase with an attitude. I then realize that i sent a text to my phone to gain access to my tickets. Showed him that, then he gets on the walkie talkie asking people who left yesterday before 1:30 if they heard of a movie cutting off??? They respond no. Duhhh Rich, you guys had already had left. I asked if he could call anybody from the closing shift, and he wouldn't do it. After an awkward standoff staring at each other, he offered me sorry bucks for a free movie for another time. Don't let the swank seats fool you (they are swank and they are comfy), these theaters are just as dirty, sticky, and crowded as others. Also the sound was so loud I had to plug my ears with tissue in order to withstand the onslaught of ads, trailers, and then the movie itself. Not the best experience. read more

If I could give this experience 0 stars I would. The entire theater was dirty. The bathrooms, hallways and actual theater smelled like urine. We paid more to see their "best screen" ultra screen which was no different then the regular screen. Went to see Thor Love & Thunder. You could not see anything in the dark scenes. Monsters/ ghosts looked like the characters were fighting no one. Had to walk out of the movie twice to find an employee to ask to turn the brightness up on the screen. By that time there was 25 minutes left in the movie. The only good thing is we went on a Tuesday which their tickets are discounted. So we didn't pay full price for the movie. If you care about the quality of the screen and the lighting to see the details of the movie. I highly recommend a AMC theater- Dolby Vision. Never going to try another theater again read more

Somebody forgot to tell them that Covid is over... serving cold popcorn, not bothering to put the butter topping into the warmers, but instead leaving it in the giant plastic gallon jugs. This is a relatively nice theater that's in a fairly convenient location. The prices for admission and food are fairly reasonable for a movie theater. The central area is kept clean, despite all the traffic. Their food is good quality, the drink fountain has a good syrup ratio, and their drinks are well carbonated. The popcorn always tastes fresh, and their Zaffiro's pizzas look really delicious. I'm not sure what brand hot dogs they have, but they were decent quality. Restrooms are clean, with lots of stalls and sinks. Hallways are nice and wide, so traffic flows nicely between shows, and the signage is good. Each of the auditoriums I have been in all have featured comfortable seats, with excellent padding and reclining backs. Despite watching near-full shows at peak hours, the auditoriums were still very clean at the start of each showing. Their projectors are SHARP with excellent contrast and color. The one thing that keeps them from a 5 star experience is every showing I've been to has had audio problems. Every movie was a limited engagement feature, so maybe that was part of the issue, but there were times when the audio would fall out of sync for a second or two throughout the movie. It was subtle, and not a big deal, but something I think they should look into as it has happened years apart (GITS 2.0 and DBS:Broly). The bigger problem was the audio was too loud, with audio redlining into rumbles at peak moment (it was really obvious while watching the Dragon Ball Super movie, where it sounded like the speakers were going to blow up their enclosures during on-screen fight scenes or arguments). Like, seriously; it was awful during the climax of the film. I'm a little volume sensitive, so I'm willing to give most theaters a pass for being just a little too loud for my delicate baby ears - I pop in some earplugs and enjoy. But when the audio is distorting and clipping, that's just not good for anyone. Again, in fairness, these were all limited-showings (two anime movies, a foreign art performance, and a remastered 50s movie), which might have been why they didn't have it fine tuned. The only time I saw a nationwide release (Doctor Strange) here, the audio was loud but distortion-free. Audio issues aside, every other experience at this Marcus Theater location has been pretty positive. It's cool that they have a LOT of handicapped parking - something other theaters in the area seem to underestimate. Their location is also nice; surrounded by a lot of shopping and dining options, and easily accessible from I-355. IMO, this is one of the nicer theaters in the area. read more

The recliners are great - Tuesday is a great value - with their app it's 5 bucks for a movie and a popcorn (yes, it's a small but you can pay a small upcharge for the tub). This has become my favorite movie theater! I go several times a month, and there are several reasons why I have become a regular customer. First of all, this theater has large, cushioned seats that recline. This allows for plenty of personal space, and the reclining seats provide greater comfort! Second, the theater has assigned seating. You get to select the seats you want when you make your purchase, and you can purchase tickets several days in advance. No more waiting in line and hoping to get a decent seat! A few reviewers have mentioned that the bathrooms were dirty. This has never been my experience, and I go on the busiest night of the week. If there is one recommendation I could make, it is to please change the bathroom soap to something mild or unscented. It is so strong that I have to bring my own soap with me. However, that is a small issue. My final point is that the $5 movie deal on Tuesdays is a wonderful perk! You do have to purchase tickets in advance for shows on Tuesdays, but it is worth it. On top of the $5 deal, you can get a rewards card and earn points on your purchases. You also get a free bag of popcorn for each movie ticket you purchase with the rewards card. Had the day off with my wife and we purchased tickets to watch the Mechanic for our day date (9:50am show). We had our baby with us since we did not have a sitter. We get there and they tell us we cannot watch the show with our son. They tell us there policy is no one under the age of 6 can watch a rated R show. Our son is 6 months old so this makes no sense. Tried to enjoy a day off with my wife only to have it ruined by the staff and theater. If you are looking for a family friendly theater do not go here!! I'd recommend AMC!!! The staff at the entrance did not help better my experience since they had me waiting to buy a ticket I couldn't on the computer because they were chatting about something on another register. What you are about to read is an admittedly unfair review of Marcus Cinema Addison, as it is reflective of their customers and not of their business. I know this location very well. I grew up in Addison, and have been going to this location of Marcus.... well, actually since before it opened in the Mid-90's. My friends and I explored the construction sight at night as the theatre was being built. There have been many changes, but the one thing that has been consistent over the years is the clientele. The awful, awful audiences that go to see movies at Marcus. They are the scourge of true movie lovers. Seeing a movie at Marcus Addison, you are virtually guaranteed to have at least one of the following fuckers in the auditorium with you doing their best to ruin your day: 1. A negligent parent who brought a crying baby or young child into a completely inappropriate (hard [R]) movie. 2. A group of tween girls txting, instagraming, tweeting, facebooking, and loudly chatting during the entire movie. 3. A group of Frat-Bro D-Bag types just... well... doing what they do. 4. An adult who should know better, loudly verbalizing every random thought that fires through the few functioning neurons in their developmentally challenged or drug-damaged brain. 5. Someone who has already seen the movie and has gone back for a repeated viewing with a friend and feels it necessary to narrate and offer commentary on everything that's about to happen. 6. The loud snacker. That open-mouth, loud-chewing, straw-slurping, ice-crunching, lip-smacking, nacho-munching, cellophane bag rustling fucker who apparently can't function for more than a few minutes without shoving something noisy in their calorie hole. I used to work for Theatrical Entertainment Services (now VeriTES) as a theatre checker. Macrus Addison was my longest-running assignment as a secret shopper. I would go there at least once a month, purchase tickets, buy concessions, inspect the restrooms, comment on the sound and picture quality of the film, gauge my interactions with the staff, and submit a written report to TES for which I would be reimbursed the cost of my tickets and concessions, as well as paid a nominal fee for my time and effort. Even though I was literally being paid by TES to see movies at Marcus, I began to dread going there every month. It got so bad, and I became so jaded from dealing with the horribly behaved audiences at Marcus Addison, that I - a true movie lover my entire life - simply stopped going to see movies in the theatre for a number of years, and instead waited to watch new movies at home on DVD, BluRay, Satellite, or streaming. When I reluctantly did start going back to theatres, I would insist we went anywhere but Marcus Addison. And you know what? We've had great luck with the crowds everywhere else! AMC South Barrington 30, AMC Streets of Woodfield, AMC Yorktown, Landmark Century Cinema Chicago, Cinemark Century Stratford Square, and even the "budget" theatres such as Classic Cinema Elk Grove and Picture Show Bloomindale. The audiences at all of these have been so much better behaved than the fucking fucks that infest Marcus Addison! I saw that Marcus had renovated and installed plush reclining sofas and was trying to go a bit up-scale. So, we gave them a shot this weekend for Mad Max Fury Road.... and were subjected to Fucker Type 4 and Fucker Type 6. Fortunately, the noise of Fucker Type 6 was drowned out once the movie got going, but Fucker Type 4 was sitting directly behind us, and did his damnedest to make sure everyone in the auditorium could hear the crudely formed vocalizations of the random reactionary "thoughts" surging through his ADHD afflicted lizard brain. read more

Marcus Cinema Addison is a pretty standard movie theater... if you haven't been to another movie theater since 1998. Okay. So yeah, it's a little outdated. On the other hand, the theaters are never busy. In fact, the last time I was here and the theater was even close to being full was when 'I am Robot' starring Will Smith came out... in 2007. Back then they were still pretending like they had an IMAX screen here... which they never did. Sure, they had a screen that was really big, but it was by no means an IMAX. I like, but am also made uncomfortable by, the tux outfits the employees have to wear. I like them in the way you'd like seeing the guy who takes your bags and pushes the button for your floor level in the elevator at a hotel wearing one of those old timey bell hop get-ups. I'm made uncomfortable because my mind reverts back to a time when I had to wear a uniform for work and just how often I would actually wash the damn thing. Which was like, uhm, never. And it showed. Now, the kids here, they're all jazzed up and everyone looks immaculate so it's not that I'm worried about cleanliness. My concern here is who's the one footing the dry cleaning bill on those bad boys? Certainly they don't make the employees pay for it, right? I sure hope not. And I know this has pretty much nothing to do with the actual theater but I'd just like the fine young employees of Marcus Cinema Addison to know that I have their back and I'm thinking about them. Delving into the concession area- Options! They've got your usual sodas (unmanned DIY fill stations!!!), popcorn, pizza, pretzels, nachos, candy, etc. And then they push concession stand standards to a new level with :::drumrolldrumrolldrumroll::: WHITE CASTLE SLIDERS! Also, they don't always get the new releases you want to see. A while back I came when 3 big ticket movies had come out in the prior 2 weeks and they had ZERO of them. What up with that, Holmes? For me, the biggest selling point is that it's 5 minutes from my Gammie's place so it makes for a great lady date locale. It's still a more than decent place to Cinema w/ Gramma. read more

I don't like sitting elbow-to-elbow with strangers and it adds up quick for two tickets, popcorn, and an elephant-bladder sized soda. You can name a handful of classics, and I've never seen them. Titanic? Nope. The Notebook? Nope. I used to come to Marcus in high school & college to see shitty chick flicks with my friends. It was an ordinary movie theater back then. I was stunned when I walked inside last week. A BAR? The watermelon margarita was fabulous. I didn't expect a bar, especially a bar with damn good drinks. The service blows though. We asked for separate checks. Even if we are being high maintenance, we asked nicely - so please don't fly off the handle and lose your cool right off the bat. It was so tacky the way he flew into sassy, raving bitch mode. The actual movie theater is stunning. The seats are super sized, red leather reclining chairs. You can recline all the way without blocking the aisle! Magic Mike may have been a shitty movie, but the EXPERIENCE was everything. I finally get it. Since the seats are spaced farther apart, I was able to comment to my friend without disturbing others. I would absolutely come back here, but I would cash out immediately upon ordering my single watermelon margarita, and definitely on a Tuesday for that amazing $5 deal. read more
