It would be very easy to walk straight past this shop, but it is definitely worth a look. Morningside Gallery has a fantastic display of eclectic art from a wide range of artists. They showcase original paintings as well as some limited edition pieces too. Morningside Gallery offer a wide selection of different paintings including places in Edinburgh, life drawings, nature scenes as well as some more abstract pieces of art. 3-D works are also available, as are sculptures. The paintings are truly beautiful and you are able to view the pieces of work available for sale on their website. Ceramics and jewellery are also available to buy at the Gallery. I cannot wait until I am able to afford some to the beautiful pieces of art for sale in the Morningside Gallery.

When I first came here, I almost thought it must be some kind of mirage, and half suspected that it would have disappeared into thin air the next time I passed by. Subsequent visits have reassured me that the place is perfectly real. Stepping inside is like stepping out of Scotland into another, opulent realm where every inch of space is covered with priceless Turkish carpets, Ming vases, lacquered cabinets, Russian icon paintings, luxurious wall hangings and ceremonial costumes from nomadic tribes. I have no idea where the owner of this shop acquires all these amazing items, nor who comes to this out of the way shop to buy them, but I do know that you can spend hours marvelling at what is in here. Although, unless you happen to be a wealthy aristocrat looking to furnish a palace, or some other extravagant moneyed-up type, you'll probably, like me, limit yourself to window shopping.

No snobbery or intimidation, just a relaxed atmosphere and some stunning artwork. A gorgeous boutique near the bottom of Victoria Street, Red Door sells all kinds of irresistible, DIY gifts from limited edition screenprints, tote bags and tea towels to sock monkeys, stuffed toys and Tatty Divine jewellery. Everything seems to have been made by hand by talented artists and there's a strong proportion of cute and kitsch things that should appeal to indie kids and arty farty types. To top it off, they sell adorable wrapping paper and stationary - including glow in the dark and scratch and sniff cards - making Red Door a one-stop shop for memorable presents.

Beautiful Gallery in Central Edinburgh…read more I really enjoyed my visit to the National Galleries of Scotland. There is an impressive variety of artwork to explore, from classical paintings to Scottish and European works. The gallery is beautiful, well presented and easy to explore, and its central location makes it very convenient when sightseeing around Edinburgh. This is a wonderful little gallery, tucked away from the hustle and bustle on Candlemaker Row. You…read morecould walk past this place a thousand times and never notice it was there. But you do need to notice, because the gallery has some brilliant items for sale. It focuses mostly on prints, ranging from as little as a tenner all the way up to £100+. The majority of prints I picked up were priced between £20 to £40, and limited editions at that. So good prices for what's on offer. The art is mostly graphic, with graffiti, stencils and poster art all making an appearance. There are a lot of band posters, so the musos amongst us can find some great pieces to put up on the wall. There are also a lot of references to movies and pop culture, which is extra fun. The items for sale are completely accessible and a lot of fun - this is what art should be about. It also looks like the gallery supports a lot of local artists, so well worth a visit to help keep our artistic scene alive and kicking.

You may be wondering then what it is I do in a frame shop if I dont have framing needs - well, I'm in the market for a print (I dont know what I want yet), and framers has quite a large selection of them, as well as of birthday cards etc. Maybe one day I will find the print I want and then get the F-Team (a renigade team of Framers on the run from the law for crimes they didnt commit) to fix it up for me.
