Drafted in 2019, decided to post for future reference: This was my favorite farmer's market in Paris. Tons of fresh fish, meat (both raw and prepared), cheese, and many fruit stalls. I especially loved the prepared meat in the stall near the entrance (they have many prepared items to choose from--I ended up loving the duck foie gras and duck rillette). Also, people were helpful and willing to deal with my poor French :) As another reviewer mentioned, there aren't many (perhaps any) ready-to-way meals. But I wasn't looking for that, and I found the quality to be fantastic. read more

I always love to see the market when I'm traveling. It's might be the best way to get away from the tourist crowd and get a more local feel to things. In the 12th Arrondissement is Marché d'Aligre which is a small market that has butcher shops, fish mongers, fruits and vegetables, and flowers. I'd recommend anyone in the area to check this place out, even for a short walkthrough. read more

I wanted to experience a local French farmer's market and I'm glad I came across this last minute. We walked the 40 minutes (we had a wonderfully decadent breakfast and needed to walk some of it off) to the market and I was hoping it would be worth it. As you get to the neighborhood, you start seeing signs, so I knew we were on the right track. We went on a Tuesday at around 10:30 am or so. There appeared to be several areas: covered featuring stalls specializing in cheese, meats, etc. A majority of them appeared to still be closed for their August vacation. The street to the side were the stalls from fresh seasonal produce like mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes, plums, peaches, and herbs. A lot of the stalls sell similar things so go around and "shop" if you can. A majority of them put up the prices so you can compare. Some stalls have "do not touch" signs where they pack the produce for you. There's also a flea market section as well. Most all of the produce looked delicious and they weren't all that expensive - some even cheaper than back in the States. We ended up getting a small eggplant, a kilogram of yellow plums for €0.99, and a carton of cute little strawberries. The plums were quite good and the strawberries were as well. The shoppers appear to be mainly locals but the shop owners seem to know other languages as well (I was arigatou-ed before we told him English would be fine). I can't comment much on the covered portion of the market (we're vegetarian and on top of that, most cheeses in France aren't vegetarian, especially at fromageries - I've asked because I love cheese) or the flea market because we had to walk back before our fruit decided to die under the midday sun. What you need to know: try to go early for best picks, shop around, they seem to be cash only, go here if you have a kitchen on hand (we did) to get some good produce and prepare a cheap meal. This was the second of the two markers we visited in Paris. It says 'covered' but only about a third of the space was. Under the covered area houses a large rotisserie with a beautiful suckling pig, a large cheese shop, deli offerings, and some international eateries. Everything smelled amazing. Outside, there was lots of fresh produce and vintage, used clothing and other goods. Save some room in your stomach for this place, and heads up, decisions on which place to get your food will not be easy! read more

One of the best markets in Paris when you include the extensive outdoor portion that extends for a couple blocks on either side of the indoor market. Great coffee places along the street too for that post market pick me up. Inside find great selection of cheese and locally made craft beers, along with the usual meat selection. Outside are many fruit and vegetable vendors. Go before noon for the best selections. some vendors are not open after lunch. read more

We arrived at 4:18pm Wednesday on a 98 degree day. I thought there might be outdoor and indoor vendors but there were only indoor vendors. Fish looked good as did cheeses and fruits but prices were the same as the vendors on Saint Antoine. So our driver from cdg who said prices and the experience was worth it was wrong. Maybe it was the heat but very few vendors and the pictures shown were not representative of my experience. read more

This market is excellent. I do not really see a reason to go to any other markets in Paris because this place (almost) has it all. Ok, if you are going to eat stuff or to buy snack food like saucisson or cheese, there are probably better spots. Personally, after spending every other weekend in Lyon for a year, I cannot get over how amazing their market is along the river on Sundays - and such prices... But I digress! :D Anyways, there are tons of stands for veggies of all kinds and the choices are much better than your typical street markets in Paris. I live in the 18th and I still come over to Aligre to shop for fruits and veggies on Sundays because their bio stands are so cheap and because around the market you can get anything else you need to cook up your dreams. Often there are deals for like 4 kg of fruits and veggies for 10 euros or there abouts. Then, as the day goes on, the deals get even better - especially around 1pm (but be careful, in hot months the produce is going for cheap because it has gotten baked by the sun so it might be worth to pay more earlier). The other day I got 5 limes for 2 euros (where they are normally 80 cents in the supermarket) and 2 bags with 8 portobello mushrooms each for a total of....2 EUROS!!! GO TO ALIGRE!!! read more

Fantastic market! Great selection of meats, cheeses, seafood, and prepared foods. We picked up some cured meat and a slice of head cheese for a very reasonable price. Both were savory and fatty. The vendor was in the north west section of the market. read more

If you are fortunate enough to be living in Paris (or like me, staying with a friend and access to a kitchen), this is an excellent place to go for your cooking supplies. Fresh produce along the street sold at a significant discount over the local grocery stores. Dedicated fish monger, cheese shop, and several butchers along the street, and inside. Each stall is friendly and willing to sample most of their products, do not be afraid to ask. read more

Absolute fave market in Paris. Went here every week when I lived at Ledru Rollin, and you can't beat the prices or selection. Mostly outdoors, there's even a few local and bio stalls. There's usually about 30 venders here, not including the indoor market. BEST prices in all of Paris, hands down. Great fish market on the corner (the indoor one is pricier), 2 great cheese shops (the one on the street also ships if you're a tourist or wanna send some cheese back home to your folks). You can pretty much haggle any price you want in most of the stalls, except for the bio ones. This place will spoil you for any food market anywhere ever. Oh, also try the Antillian food in the indoor market. read more

One of the best markets I visited in Paris. Lots of great vendors of meats (obviously), cheeses (obviously), and fish. All of the vendors seemed special in their own way. Great location, I would definitely recommend coming here. Also, on certain days there is an outdoor market too with endless produce vendors and flea market vendors too. read more

Great covered market near Bastille. Grab sliced chorizo and saucissons aux fines herbes, a bit of cheese (Coulommier!), and fresh green olive tapenade with coriander. The fruits and vegetables abound--right now the tomate cerises de France are tops. No dessert needed! Head to the Viaduc des Arts or all the way to the Bois de Vincennes and picnic the sunny afternoon away. The ingredients are inexpensive at the source; don't forget the wine! read more

This market is the place to go for fresh fruits and vegetables (and perhaps other things, see below) Lots of good healthy competition keeps the prices affordable. Make sure you shop around as I found significantly different prices from vendor to vendor. As a quick lesson, always ask before you touch the fruit. I learned the hard way. In the actual circle market you will find non produce vendors. If you are an experienced person at identifying diamonds in the rough this is the place! Tons of great vintage clothing and antiques but you have to search for it. If you find it, it will make it worth it as everything is dirt cheap. Do not be afraid to wonder off in the the actual shops. They have lots of great sea food, wine and clothing shops... What it needs to be 5 stars: More non produce vendors. Whether you're a neighborhood resident or visiting for a couple weeks this market is a must for your food needs. Top notch produce and meat line the streets and is open year round. One can pretty much do your entire shopping for the week by a visit to this market. If you are visiting, and from the States, yes...you've seen Farmer's Markets before but this one will knock your socks off. I guess this would be a good stop even if you're visiting for a day or two. You will get away from the tourists and grab some fresh food and pretty much blend right in to the neighborhood...which, for me, is better than taking in the view from Sacre Coeur. read more

My cousin recommended this farmers market as the best one to go to in Paris and I can see why. I live in San Diego, CA where we have farmers markets, but this market was HUGE. You talk about a selection of any fruit or vegetable you could imagine. The vendors let you taste a sample also which I recommend. Don't buy from the first vendor you see because you will may have about 50 more choices around. The prices really seemed to be pretty good which makes sense with all the competition. We had some really good chèvre aux herbes and Gouda with cumin. Our cousin was with us who spoke French which helped communicate but you could always point and figure it out if you don't speak much French. If you are a tourist and have a place to prep food I recommend buying a variety of fruits and vegetables and cheeses and acting like a Parisian for a day read more

For those who aren't used to the chaos of open markets, it can be a bit overwhelming. But once you do get used to the yelling and to the number of people around you, it is quite a good place for a tasty stroll. Not to miss: the organic stand (10 euros for 4kg of fruits and veggies of your choice), Le Pain au Naturel for the ficelles aux olives and Au Coeur du Marché for the greatest selection of cheese (and the friendliest staff). read more

Everything looked good there. Especially the fresh oysters, seafood, pastries, meats, dry and cured meats, fruits, veggies, ALL. Market is not huge but has a fair amount of stands to shop and eat from. One has seats (a table to be exact) to eat some oysters outside with wine..mmh Was really looking to do it but ended up going somewhere else. This market feels very local, with some primeurs outside, but also clothes and antiques near by. Quite nice on a sat morning or sunday, when it is nice outside. Really lively, charming little section of Paris right there, with a good neighboring feel to it. It fills your heart, I should say, to see such cute little places, with lots of people enjoying market shoppin, chattin, hangin around the market, and in the market. Really recommend it to see what it s like to live in Paris ;-) read more

A wonderful thing about Paris is that the produce at the farmer's market is less expensive and better quality than most of what you find in the store! If you have a place to cook you can wander through this huge market and pick up lovely fruits and veggies and then stop by a bolangerie for a baguette or two, and the fromagerie for cheese. Do this any you can eat like royalty for cheap! Even if you aren't shopping for a meal it is worth wandering through just to see the many varieties of things that you wouldn't see at home. read more

This bustling street market is pretty well-known in Paris, and it is just fantastic. First of all, it has a super lively atmosphere, with vendors shouting out their products and prices and talking to customers as the meander by. Some of them are very friendly and chatty, others may come off a bit brusque, but it's all part of the fun. Also, many of Paris's outdoor markets can be somewhat more expensive than grocery stores, but this one has pretty much unbeatable prices. There is a huge selection of produce and it's a really fun way to start your day. read more

How do I love thee, let me count the ways. This was a great pleasure today to enjoy shopping at this market. This is not trendy Paris but (to me at least), more of the real Paris. Le Grille Bistro Marche d'Aligre: Phillippe will serve you an espresso or a prix fixe dinner, with Parisian charm. This outdoor/indoor cafe is open early for the vendors of one of the best outdoor flea/veg. markets in a 'real' French neighbourhood. Genuine food with flair. read more
