My swan song from a disappointing trip in the bird department. Off the eye test, it doesn't get much better. The beautiful sight of tissi's rotating in front of a fire breathing oven, potatoes in the tray below collecting the chicken juices as they fell, had me ready to run around the Bastille plaza yelling "LE MOUVEMENT!!". I thought this was going to be my first high level bird in the City of Light. Much to my chagrin, the one I got was just lukewarm. I was ready for my fingerprints to be fully burned off. There was so much potential here, but as always, I have to judge what's in front of me. If I don't have my integrity I have nothing. It landed at an 8.1/10 on the restaurant scale which is good, but if it was hot it could have been up there with the greats in the rare 9 territory. I go to the market on Sundays but they are open on other days as well - but I am not sure what days this particular stand is around besides Sunday. We picked up a mix of decadent olives at the local olive and dried fruit vendor. Tomatoes were delicious and about 2.90 e for a medium bag. We also picked up fresh radishes and carrots. The vendors were kind and polite and were understanding of our limited French language. We had left over bread and cheese available for our afternoon picnic otherwise we would have purchased some of the most delicious looking cheeses and salamis at this market. The salami man has salamis with dried figs, herbs de Provence, and nearly everything in between. He offers samples and will vacuum seal your purchased salamis for an extra .50 e. So cozy and welcoming you forget you are in a city of millions of people. We have visited here many times since that first visit and each one has been better than the previous visit. We made friends with the fromanger, butcher, baker and the cozy corner cafe'. We can't wait to visit again.
