If you are lucky enough to get your hands on the hardest ticket to get in Pierce County and I am…read morenot talking about a Green Bay Packer season ticket, I am talking about a single ticket to the Ellsworth Rod and Gun Chicken Feed... you will enjoy it. A once-a-month spectacular meeting of people on the shore of a famous trout stream that frequently sells out is something that should be experienced at least annually if not more..... if you can. You will enjoy a fun crowd, all-you-can-eat dining, fantastic scenery, trap shooting, and a bar with a patio on the famous Rush River trout stream. You might see some camo jackets, and some friendly rural people happy to say hello and share a story. You will find a very low rural-priced bar. You can try some trap shooting. They have instructors ready to help the novices. Guns, ammo, and ear protection are all available. Bring your fishing pole or fly rod, and a Wisconsin Fishing License and wet a line while digesting the fantastic meal you enjoyed just yards away from shore. Before you leave ask the ticket taker for next month's ticket to make sure you have a spot. The all-you-can-eat chicken and biscuits along with all the sides you would expect are a Rod and Gun tradition and mouth-watering. The buffet is kept full with dozens of volunteer workers keeping all the items fresh and hot. The humble people of Western Wisconsin are refreshing. You will not be disappointed.

"Nobody Here But Us Chickens"…read more You know you're in rural Wisconsin when you visit a clubhouse for dinner and the first thing you see is a sea of camouflage, followed by a gentleman toting a Kemps Ice Cream man-bag (apparently the Kate Spade of rustic accessories for men), who while chewing on a toothpick, yells out to anyone who can hear him to check if they will "...come and visit him when he goes to jail for a day next month". Bless his heart. Once the department of corrections greetings were out of the way, we were sent to our seats like pigs off to the feeding trough for one of the all-you-can-eat chicken dinners served biweekly at the Ellsworth Rod and Gun Club. Prior chicken feeds were handled family-style, where you were seated among strangers, friends, and foe who would fight like gladiators for the last juicy chicken breast or biscuit with gravy...even though another heaping chicken plate would surely be delivered to the table within minutes. Competitions among men would frequently ensue to determine who could create the tallest stack of chewed-off chicken bone remains, piled sky-high in Jenga-like fashion. Luckily the arm wrestling for chicken legs has been put to rest along with the scrap heaps, as the dining style has been changed to buffet. For $11.00 a head (human, not chicken), the buffet allows you can eat all that your gut and jeans will allow. A portion of your meal ticket will be used to support the community by being donated to non-profit groups or clubs around the Pierce County area. Here's what you get: Roasted Chicken Scalloped Potatoes Biscuits & Country Gravy Baked Beans Coleslaw Veggies Dessert Water pitchers are available at every table, but you can always pick your poison from the downstairs bar instead. Take out orders are available, and tickets for kids under 5 are only $5.00. Enjoy the scenery before and after dinner as the building is tucked into a lush, green valley, but be aware it can get quite loud--clay pigeon shooting takes place behind the clubhouse. For those who are not chicken to stuff themselves to the gizzards, but may have reservations about patronizing a sportsmen's club, you can take some comfort in knowing that Ellsworth R & G Club is involved with trout stream improvement projects, wildlife habitat improvement projects and public conservation education programs. **Man-bag man details changed ever so slightly to protect the not-so-innocent. ~The Nosy Norwegian Sniffing out chicken breasts and good deals on Kemps Handbags so you don't have to.
