The first year you file taxes for your business in California and on a federal level, it seems like everyone is out to get you! It can be incredibly daunting to not only differentiate tax liability, but avoid misfilings, fees, and things you aren't even aware of. That's when I realized a faceless entity like h&r block wouldn't cut it for me. I needed someone personable, reliable, but most importantly have the knowledge tailor-fit to my situation. Not only was Alex super knowledgeable about the details, but he was always there for me. If I had a question or concern, I never felt abandoned through the process. I think it's because he's so organized, since he was always extremely communicative and never let me down. Well-versed in his various specialties, I've never met anyone so sharp and on top of things. Overall, I'd recommend him to anyone and I'll definitely be referring friends.

He is professional, has excellent follow-through, and goes above and beyond to help his clients better understand their financial situations. A bit about the process: We started with a free, 15-minute consultation to determine whether Alex could help me. During this call, he gave me an estimate of how long it would take him to address my situation at his hourly rate of $325. Before Alex began work on my issue, I paid half of the upper end of the estimate upfront and Docu-signed an engagement letter. Alex took his time collecting all of my pertinent financial details and kept me apprised of the projected timeline throughout the process. We concluded with a scheduled call where Alex presented me with a very organized, well-thought-out PDF showing potential outcomes considering different variables. He spent an hour and 15 minutes patiently going over the PDF with me and answering every question I could come up with at the time. Since our scheduled call, Alex has remained available via email and phone for further inquiries. He is always friendly and eager to help. And when he can't come up with an answer or explanation on the spot, he researches it and follows up with what he's found. Highly recommended!

I am extremely upset about the service and quality of Joel and his team. We really wanted to like…read morehim-- he was referred to us for his cost segregation experience and we had a good first meeting. However, as we got closer to April 15 I got minimal communications from him. Then on 8pm on Tax Filing day itself, he texted that it would be late at night that he finished, then he texted saying he didn't finish and would file for an extension. Strike 1. Then I had to follow up April 20 since I hadn't heard anything and then over the next 2-3 weeks it was back and forth of reviewing his draft submissions and there was constantly inaccurate information, missing information, and overall poor attention to detail (he even missed including my 3 children as dependents). I was QCing accounting mistakes of my own CPA! Strike 2. I had to keep revising his drafts because his initially had us owing over 5-figures which was more than last year. I had to remind him then of how to approach the tax strategies that our family put in place. What I am even paying you for?! Strike 3. Then I had to still follow up with him when the final submission was going to be submitted (over a month late) and only then did he actual submit it, but I never even got a copy of the submitted paperwork (still waiting for it). Strike 4/5/6/ Needs to be thrown out of the game. I don't recommend at all and it's unfortunate since he seemed to do well with others, but not with us. Maybe he couldn't handle the complexity of our W2s and investments but never will I work with him again.

I had been using a "basic" cpa for many years who only charged a few hundred bucks for my tax…read morereturns. As my income has increased the past couple years, I decided to use a better CPA who can provide me with the proper advice to save on taxes. In early 2022, John filed my 2021 tax return. Basically, his office staff plug in the numbers in the computer off of the docs you provide. Then John and you will have a zoom meeting to go over the numbers to make sure they're all correct. During the meeting, I asked John what I can do to save on taxes. He said "the more taxes I pay the better, that means I am making more money." He also said that I could buy a business and if the business has a loss then I can deduct taxes. I thought to myself why would I go through the trouble to buy a business and lose money. At least that was my understanding of it. The tax filing fee was about $2000 which was fine. Now fast forward to 2023, after looking into more advanced tax strategies and paying another high level CPA $10,000 one year consultation fee ( not including filing) I realized that John failed to mention or explain to me how to take advantage of cost segregation and bonus depreciation to save me tons of money. I don't want to explain how to do it to you. But because of John, I lost $100K of tax savings and $200k opportunity cost. Now I am doing it this year, but we are in a much worse overall investment environment. We cannot get that opportunity back. Disclosure: there was nothing John could've done my 2021 tax return because it was 2022 when I met him. But if he gave me proper advice during the meeting, I could have done certain things in 2022 to save hundreds of thousands on taxes. Now I just need to find a corner to cry. John is not a bad CPA. By all means, you should try him. But I didn't like his mentality that the more taxes I pay the better. The wealthiest Americans pay 0 taxes. I pay hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. My conclusion is that John might be an amazing tax filer. But I need tax planning. And I don't feel that he specializes in real estate , I do real estate. Now I am with a CPA specialized in real estate. My advice is pay someone 10k or 20k tax advisory fee, you have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars. P.S.: , My rich friend who sold real estate this year has a $1 million dollar tax liability. Thank God he talked to me and I referred him to the proper people. He's going to save $1 million this year. Just to tell you, if you have a large tax burden, please find someone for tax planning not to just tax filing.
