I booked a visit at the Aquamadre Hammam for the women's only night during my trip to Rome. While…read moreI was planning the trip, I knew that I would need some relaxation and pampering after a long transatlantic flight and many days of trekking throughout the amazing city that is Rome. Located in the Jewish ghetto part of the city, the hammam is beautiful and totally charming. The staff were kind and professional, and there is always someone to help guide you through the process. You start by changing out of your clothes in the dressing room, and you can either go totally nude or wear some version of a bathing suit - there were women who did both, so just choose your preference. From there, you are led down to the grottos beneath the main building into a beautifully candle lit space. They will hand you a small bowl of soap and ask you to clean your body, and they will pour warm water over you which is so relaxing. From there, you will alternate between the heated steam room and back into the main room which is warm, but less heated. I highly recommend dousing yourself in cold water while you are in the steam room, its very relaxing for the nerves. Once you have had your fill of that, they will lead you to another marble slab where you lay down and they will scrub your body from head to toe - I never felt more clean! Afterwards, you will retreat to a cool pool of water and relax there. If you did not book a treatment, you would then go back upstairs in their lounge room where fresh tea will be waiting for you. I proceeded to have the lavender honey facial done, which was lovely but frankly could have skipped it just because I was already so blissed out from the hammam experience. It did moisturize my weary skin though, which was going bonkers from travel. If you have time afterwards, I would highly recommend going to eat at one of the many kosher restaurants in the area - get the fried artichoke if it is in season! All in all, a wonderful experience and I would definitely do it again if I were in Rome. Budget at least 2 hours for the process from start to finish.

During my first visit, I was told, "Come back in 6 months--too many layers!" I followed that advice and returned after 6 months, only to be told, "Still one layer left--come back in 3 months!" So, I came back today, hoping for some progress, but what I received was beyond frustrating. The stylist was rude and refused to cut my hair at all. I asked for at least a trim or some shape around my face, but he outright declined. He conveyed his refusal with a statement that was dismissive and condescending, saying he wouldn't cut my hair just because I wanted something different. I live in Rome and travel frequently, making it difficult to schedule haircuts. I'm furious that he wasted my time, especially after giving him multiple chances. I've never encountered a stylist who couldn't create a hairstyle or a transitional look for long, straight hair with fringe bangs. It makes me question his talent and creativity. I cannot recommend HeadSpace Salon based on this experience. It's disheartening to feel ignored and undervalued as a client. I see based on the other negative reviews, I'm not alone in this experience. I can speak quite a bit of Italian but I'm not fluent, so I used Google translate, because when it comes to my hair, I don't want misunderstandings. Maybe he only likes to cut Italians. He should say so up front if thats the case.

The room we got had an old Musty smell along with the smell of being near a sewer drain. Maybe just old construction. We chose an oil massage so they said we had to put on a hair net and remove our underwear and slip on these very thin undies they provided so that our underwear would not get oily. My massage started out like normal but what I found weird was she massaged my stomach exposing my breasts without a cover usually a small hand towel is placed on top. Never have I ever experienced that and I have a private masseuse that comes to my home all the time. Usually any other place I've been to cover up your private parts by tucking the sheet or towel between the legs when massaging the leg and thigh. This was also not done as remember we were wearing tiny transparent cloth underwear they provided. I get deep tissue all the time but this was vigorous and fast movement, I found it difficult to relax and my skin being pinched it was not relaxing. Remember this is not my first massage. I get one at least 2x a week and have experienced massages all over the world. Maybe it was the masseuse I got but my husband said he didn't like his either. We just came from Athens and got a Thai massage there and it was amazing. So the comparison is very recent. I was looking forward to a relaxing, deep tissue massage but unfortunately I did not get it this time.

I have gone to strictly Aveda salons for the past two years and always had an excellent and extremely professional experience. I get my hair done every 8 weeks, so I know exactly how long it takes to do my hair and have a rough idea of how much it costs depending on where in the world I am. I went to this salon for the first time on Thursday. I went to touch up my roots to match the rest of my platinum blonde hair. The stylist doing my hair had no idea what he was doing and didn't leave the bleach in long enough, left the toner in my ends too long, and I ended up with orange roots and BLUE hair. I was in tears. A woman working there promised me that I would not have to pay for this mistake and that I should come back for another appointment, again stressing that I would not have to pay. I was hesitant to come back, but because they had said it would be gratis, I went back today for a 6 hour appointment to fix what they had done. I had to contact my colourist from Aveda's Civello salon in Toronto to give this salon the right formula for my dye and my toner because they weren't sure what to do... Anyway, after 6 hours my hair turned out great so I asked the hair dresser for a trim and picked out a product to take home as well! Then they wanted to take pictures of my hair for their social media and I thought "OF COURSE! The least I could do to thank them!" When I went to pay for my haircut and products (because my root touchup was promised to be free), they told me my bill was 300 EUROS! I asked for a breakdown of the bill and they said they couldn't give me a breakdown until after I paid. So I told them I'm not paying 300 Euros until they explain what it's for. They wouldn't budge. So I figured I would pay and then go straight to the Questura to report them. When I put my card in the machine, the amount was changed to 365 euros! My receipt not only has the dye on it, but also additional services on it that they said they were giving me to prevent damage from their mistake. If you are an expat or a tourist, avoid this place! They are inexperienced and looking to make a quick buck off of you. They assume they won't see you again and they don't care about your hair.
