I originally planned on going to their other location but I'm glad that we chose this 1 as we were able to do shopping in the mall after . We arrived around lunch time and were seated right away. I ordered the ceviche mixto which was 1 of the best I had in Argentina. The chicken fried rice was a bit moist but super flavorful and I ended up really loving it. My bf didn't like his calamari. My 1st drink was the Caipirinha which was good and then I ended up ordering a bottle of Sparkling wine which I think they have some type of collaboration with or it's actually owned by the restaurant. Everything was priced really well and I left with a buzz from the wine. Loved it!! A must go to spot when in Mendoza if you're looking for an Asian infused menu

We made a reservation on WhatsApp, although the restaurant didn't reply and confirm until the day of in the AM. The restaurant is huge with multiple levels, so they're able to seat a lot of people. The menu is extensive and has every cut of beef imaginable. We got the parrilla platter for two which was an extremely generous amount of meat. I think it could have fed four. The sweetbreads were rather gristley and tough, but the steaks were deliciously tender. We loved the black sausage as well which was generously onion and savory. Came down to less than $100 for two people for an absolutely huge amount of food and wine. As expected the wine list was huge, and reasonably priced. Service was very attentive. Staff spoke some English but we got by with pointing just fine.

This spot in Mendoza looks to be very popular with locals and tourist alike. The vibe here is modern with traditional flame broiled beef and extensive Argentine wine list. The service is good with a team approach. Our main waiter noticed my interest in the way they cook and invited me into the kitchen. Awesome to see how they do it! We had the Tomahawks which really was too much for two people sharing. We kept it simple with Mendoza Malbec, empanadas, beef and papas fritas. Spectacular but too much. I literally started sweating as my body was trying to digest this bacchanal.

But the steak (filet) I had a Don Mario was amazing! Many reviews as well as personal recommendations said that the best steak in Mendoza was at Don Mario's. They were indeed correct. I had the tenderloin with bleu cheese sauce and potatoes! Wow! Not only was the steak very well seasoned, but it was cooked to perfection and the sauce was amazing. The wine by the glass was a very generous pour. The attentive service was great, and the price was amazingly fair (in terms of US dollars). Another great case of genuine Argentine hospitality!

We were seated straight away and ordered a bottle of Trumpeter Malbec while reviewing the menu. We ordered a salad to share and I chose the Lomo Don Mario. It's an interesting dish. It came with peas, hearts of palm, artichoke hearts, and potatoes. The steak had asparagus, mushrooms, ham and roasted bell pepper on top. It was quite good but there was an error in translation. I wanted it medium-rare and it came out medium-well. It was still delicious, but could have been better. Everyone else's steaks were cooked perfectly and everyone enjoyed their meal. It's a great place and look forward to returning.

A close friend had hyped it up as one of Mendoza's…read moremust-try fine-dining experiences -- unlimited bread, incredible food, Francis Mallmann's legacy, the whole story. And yes, the restaurant is visually beautiful. But once the meal actually began, the entire experience fell apart so completely that I left wondering how this place still has a reputation at all. THE PREPAY REQUIREMENT: A BAD SIGN I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO Before I even sat down, I was required to prepay for the entire experience upfront. For a restaurant that positions itself as premium fine dining, this immediately felt off -- like they don't trust their own service or quality enough to let the guest pay afterward like every other serious restaurant in the world. In hindsight, this should have been my warning. SERVICE: INATTENTIVE, CARELESS, AND DISORGANIZED The service throughout the night was shockingly mediocre for a restaurant charging this much. * They removed my bread plate mid-meal without asking, despite supposedly offering unlimited bread. * When I asked for more, they handed me a tiny leftover scrap, as if the kitchen had run out. Completely unacceptable. * Courses were dropped without enthusiasm or explanation. * The pacing was inconsistent, with long gaps at odd times. * The staff felt disengaged, like they were just going through the motions. For a restaurant with this price tag, this level of service is embarrassing. THE FOOD: ONE DISAPPOINTMENT AFTER ANOTHER Shrimp with Humita -- Disappointing and Poorly Executed The highly recommended shrimp with humita arrived as two tiny shrimp sitting on what tasted like plain creamed corn. No depth, no balance, nothing resembling fine dining. I didn't finish it because it was genuinely unpleasant. King Crab Gnocchi -- Good Pasta, Terrible Crab The gnocchi itself was soft and well made. The crab, however, was stringy, off-tasting, and filled with scraps from the shell. It completely ruined what could've been a decent dish. Wagyu Steak -- The Low Point of the Night This was supposed to be the star -- and it was easily the worst part of the meal. The Wagyu looked unappetizing, was overly salty, lacked tenderness, and tasted nothing like Wagyu should. I've had far better steak at casual chain restaurants. The potato side was bland and forgettable. Dessert -- The "Best" Part, But Still Not Good Dessert was fine, but absolutely nothing special. I've had significantly better desserts at everyday cafés across Buenos Aires for a fraction of the price. THE WINE PAIRING: LAZY, UNDERPOURED, AND MISALIGNED The wine pairing felt like an afterthought: * Three white wines in a row, none of which paired particularly well with the dishes. * Half-pours that felt cheap and stingy. * Reds and sparkling that were simply "fine" and added nothing to the experience. Nothing about it enhanced the meal or justified the price. FINAL VERDICT This was supposed to be a highlight of my Mendoza trip. Instead, it was one of the most disappointing and overpriced dining experiences I've had anywhere in the world. * Overhyped food * Weak service * A bizarre prepay requirement * Poor execution * Underwhelming wine pairing * Very little value for the money WOULD I EVER GO BACK? Absolutely not. WOULD I RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE? No -- not to anyone. Not for any occasion. Not at any price. 1884 may be a beautiful restaurant, but everything beyond the visuals fell dramatically short. I left frustrated, disappointed, and genuinely confused as to how this place is considered "fine dining."

I made reservations right away and they confirmed with me within 24 hours. We had 8pm reservations on a weekday. Cabs are cheap in Mendoza so it was easy to get to. Once finished, the restaurant will call you a cab to get back which was great and convenient. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The entrance is somewhat hidden but once you enter, everything is spectacular. We were lucky to sit outside next to the grill pit. The air smelled of woodfire which I absolutely loved. The service was impeccable and we downed two bottles of wine during our dinner. Appetizers: Octopus - It's a staple at the restaurant. It will always be on the menu and rightfully so. The octopus was grilled perfectly. It had a great char taste on the outside but super soft on the inside. Definitely not overcooked. The rustic potatoes it came with was just as good. It was fried beautifully, so crisp on the outside, piping hot on the inside. Add the lemon and olive paste aioli and it was the perfect start to a great meal. Entrees: Wagyu - AMAZING. The wagyu was like butter, cooked perfect to medium rare. It was on top of this potato chip like plate and that was just as good. So crisp and it absorbed the juices of the wagyu in the middle. Mouth watering. Rib-eye - A bit chewier than the wagyu but just as good. The meats were just grilled perfectly. No other way to say it. Desserts: Burnt Fruits - A must try! Who knew burnt fruits could be so good. The overall flavoring was a bit of cherry which I loved. All the fruits were so juicy and I loved that it was hot from the grill. Different from the usual desserts. Flan - Just as satisfying. The flan was eggy, creamy. Paired with candied nuts added great contrasting texture to the flan. Overall, so good! A wonderful meal in a beautiful restaurant. They also accept credit card and the best part is you can add tip to the credit card bill as well!

The neighborhood of Josefina is trendy and scattered with bars and pubs that make for an easy way home via bar-hopping, so that's a plus. It was walkable from our Air B&B, which was at the heart of central Mendoza. We had 8:00pm reservations, but being in a strange-time zone and early-eaters by nature, we decided to pop in early to see if they would accomodate us. Much to our pleasure, Josefina was open by 7:30pm (which is quite early for Mendoza!) and happy to accomodate us early. The interior is modern and cool in the way that you are captivated by the interior before you can even study the menu. Interesting lighting fixtures punctuate the ceiling and wallpaper of various food and culture themes tastefully adorn the walls. Our server was polite, professional and prompt. I began with a glass of sparkling rose and B enjoyed the Sauvignon Blanc while we decided on entrees. The menu has descriptions in Spanish, English and Portuguese, which is always nice. I chose the mixed green salads with pomegranate, toasted almonds, tomato and asparagus dressed in a simple oil and vinegar. B chose the gnocchi with a mushroom cream sauce. They brough us out a variety of complimentary warm breads that far surpassed any offering of the sort we'd had before. There were several slices of each a whole wheat artisan bread, a focaccia with rosemary and tomatoes, quality dinner rolls and simple, fresh white bread. Our entrees followed immediately after (and quite quickly overall!). My salad was a generous portion and both dishes were visually pleasing. I devoured the fresh, crips salad and it was wonderfully light compared to the portions I had became accustomed to the prior week! The ripe pomegranate was a great contrast to the savory vegetables and the amount of dressing was just right. To say I was satisfied is an understatement. A note for veg-heads: The menu was limited for non-meat eaters, but there are a few dishes available and I am confident they would all be great! I would recommend this place to locals and visitors alike.

The menu has salads with warm shrimp or chicken, a dig a station of grilled provolone cheese, your usual meets with slight twists like a eggplant dip on top of your roasted potatoes with your steak. They bring a bread basket with two slices of tomato focaccia, two slices of a cherry wheat bread, one dense white roll and a slice if a soft white bread. It was served with a pickle aioli topped with shredded marinated carrots. Very light and fresh. We tried the empanadas (3 for $155) and they were made with chopped beef and lots of smoky paprika. It was almost too flavorful and great with the pickle aioli. The warm langoustine salad had only five langoustines (which were nicely seasoned and perfectly tender) but lots of arugula and frisée. The arugula was a bit overpowering versus the langoustines. It had 3 thin slices of grilled peach and 3 thin slices of avocado. It also had about 10 cherry tomatoes and two long homemade breadsticks. The salad was lightly dressed in a lemon vinaigrette. Very fresh, light salad. We also had the small ribeye with roasted potatoes topped with an eggplant spread and a small salad. All great flavors. We had asked for the ribeye to come without the cheese but they forgot. We took it off and ate it separately. Service was friendly and efficient. Certainly a modern version if an Argentinean steakhouse.
