I have been communicating with this Eldercare firm for several months now in attempting to simply…read morehave a Durable Power-of-Attorney reviewed and to have a Living Deed done for my 92 year old mother's home so it does not get tied up in probate upon her demise. At the time I initially contacted them, I'd had a couple of issues keeping the original two appointments due to the fact that I was working in a job that required a commute of over an hour each way with really bad traffic and it was difficult for me to make these as this was a local firm. The third time we missed our appointment was simply due to 92 year old Mom stuff and couldn't be avoided. When I called to make another appointment today, I was told by the paralegal who was handling my case (Natalia) that they would not set an appointment for me until I had sent in a payment that represented the first installment of whatever retainer we would be paying. When questioned, I was informed that this was standard procedure. Now, I'm not sure how many cancelled appointments they get on a regular basis, but, they are Eldercare specialists which involves a geriatric population, being cared for by baby-boomers who are trying to make a "go" of it in a business climate that does not make a lot of room for baby-boomers; and I thoroughly resent the position they have put me in to start this process all over again. As is typical of some of the other legal firms I have dealt with in the past, Attorney Schecter is insulated with paralegals who do their best to make you feel less than they are because of their extensive legal knowledge, are quite arrogant, and totally non-compassionate about other people's plights. Unfortunately, for this Eldercare law firm, I will be seeking assistance elsewhere.
