When i talked to them about the pay they compared me to previous employees and said if i worked very hard and made the residents happy i would get a raise before my 6 months of employment. Claim they only do checks for the first 6 months of employment, which have to be picked up from there. Management walks around like they are better than everyone else. Residents seem to be happy but environment is not great. They deserve 1 star only because they treat the residents well.

Seemed like a good service at first. I will be the first to admit that they provide a service that…read moreis challenging to keep good employees in. They provide home health aides to come into the home and help people with disabilities or overwhelmed families with personal care or care for their loved-ones. It is not an easy job and sometimes not a pretty job. These home health aides are tasked with driving miles to strangers homes (sometimes for only an hour or so throughout the day) and helping with personal care such as bathing, toileting, dressing, light cleaning, meal preparation etc. The biggest problem seems to be lack of consistency. If an aide calls off or cannot make it to a clients home they do offer a replacement. The challenge here is that most of the clients served are elderly, suffer from dementia, and need a care provider that they are familiar with. For the families, providing a "back up" aide in the event of a call-off can be helpful, but many families or clients are not comfortable with different care givers coming every day. Also when a back up aid is provided they are usually unfamiliar with the client, their care needs, the family, and the clients routine in general. That said, the family usually spends that time teaching the aide what needs to be done. In this scenario, and when it happens often it becomes more of an inconvenience than help as the family not only still has to provide the care themselves, but are now tasked with training Mercy Plus's aide. So why you ask? Why is it so hard to keep a good aide? After dealing with this company for years the answer is clear. Money. Mercy Plus gains access to and provides service through various channels. Many clients are gained by contract with Area Agencies on Aging who operate on a budget and will give the bid to the lowest vendor's bid (Mercy Plus). So naturally, they are unable to pay their aides a wage that encourages them to work. They (in most cases) do not pay their aides for mileage and the aides drive all over the county, like I said earlier sometimes only for an hour or two. By the time the aide fuels their vehicle, not to mention wear-and-tear expenses they are left with little to no income, if they don't end up going negative or actually paying to work. So who would do this? Most of the caregivers are compassionate people who enjoy helping others, most. After working for a couple of weeks and realizing that after paying for gas and driving all over they are actually losing money, they do what anyone would do and quit. The company then blames the aides by saying they "just can't keep people who want to work". No Mercy Plus wrong. Your aides would love to work and make a living wage. The reason you can't keep employees is that you don't pay them well enough and they can't even afford to work. I have seen this scenario play out over and over again. So stop blaming your employees and start taking responsibility for your company. This company and it's ownership/management are more concerned with their bottom dollar than the actual service they provide to the client. I would not recommend them, I would stay away. There are many companies in this area that do the same thing. Its a hard business. But like with any business you will not be able to keep employees if you keep neglecting them. And the rub. It is the client they are caring for in the first place who has to deal with all of their problems. #GETITTOGETHERMERCYPLUS.
