We signed up for a half day tour of the thousand islands and I was under the impression my…read moreboyfriend and I would have our own tour guide for the three hour tour. We were super excited and filled out all of their paperwork. We showed up for the tour and found out we were going with a bunch of other couple. We thought that's ok since we'll be in our own kayak and the form we filled out asked us about our experience etc. We thought we would be paired with other people of our level. Nope! We were wrong again. One person on the tour was a complete beginner and the entire group had to wait for them and and the other kayakers who couldn't keep up. Our guide would tell us where to paddle to and then we would wait 10-15 minutes for the rest of the group to catch up. If a company asks everyone thrr their ability, shouldn't all the groups be a similar ability so people won't be bored? I thought we were going to get a great workout but there was no workout involved in this adventure. The Positives: It was nice to see the 1000 islands, see a ship wreck and learn we could have gone onto any of the islands with a sign, since they are all public parks. Our guide was very nice and he even towed one of the group members when she couldn't paddle anymore. I thought that was really nice of him. The Negatives: There was a lot of waiting around and we didn't get to go for a swim since we spent more than half the time waiting for the rest of the group. I wish registration was more clear and I'd I knew it wasn't a private tour I would have paid more for it to be a private tour where we could have done everything we wanted.

So wrong. I ended up being late to my group kayak tour but 1000 islands and I kept in contact while I was on line. I was stressed out but they helped so much by offering me an individual kayak session instead. They were very informative on how to operate the kayak and recommended spots to visit, and also provided a laminated map. They were very friendly and made sure to refund me the difference, since I did not go on the group tour. Recommend to anyone who is traveling to the 1000 Islands!

We found a Groupon for the Boldt Castle tour, which was twice the length of the cheapest package - it was 20 minutes long and regularly priced at $160 each plus tax and tip. Our pilot was a retired air force pilot, which gave us both a lot of confidence in his flying skills. My husband was anxious and gripped the handlebar in front of him pretty hard, but the flight was smooth and he was extremely friendly and made us feel so safe and comfortable. He was also incredibly knowledgeable and told us a ton of stories and fun facts about the area, which also helped distract my husband a little. He even flew a couple of times around the Boldt Castle so that we could get the best photos possible. We had such a great time and would totally recommend it to anyone thinking about it!

Any tourist destination that offers a bus or trolley tour must have something to boast about. And…read moreKingston is no exception. First-time sightseers like me to this beautiful university town of 125,000 at the confluence of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence Seaway will want to get ready to hop-on, hop-off at any one of the eight trolley stops. I stepped-off at Fort Henry, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for a quick visit to the strategic stronghold with a great view of Kingston, the Royal Military College of Canada and parts of Wolf Island. Unfortunately, my whirlwind tour of Kingston didn't allow me to take advantage of any other great stops like Canada's Penitentiary Museum or beautiful Kingston City Hall--those would have been my two first choices. Pick a stop, hop-off and head anywhere on foot in this very walkable community. But my limited time for a more focused day is why good narration is so important. The bright red trolleys are commanded by tour guides with expert knowledge of the town so you'll get all sorts of historical insight and factoids that leave you in-the-know. They also use pre-recorded narration for some tour segments with several popular foreign languages available via headset. My tour guide was a town native and part time jazz singer whose musical voice and pleasant style offered lively insight into, among others, "The Tragically Hip Way," the "Singing Bridge" as well as the colorful Sir Johnny MacDonald, a Scottish emigre to Kingston and Canada's first prime minister. She also provided an array of dining tips as we scooted down bustling Princess St. lined with period buildings. I was seated in a trolley that had two large open sides which allowed unobstructed photography. I really enjoyed this delightful tour and the price was right. Surface parking by the hour or day is available within easy walking distance. Restrooms are located in the basement of the ticket office that also doubles as a souvenir shop.

We did and wait until 10 minutes for her as she stopped to yell at other campers while on her golf cart. After tersely telling us her rules - including a 5 mph speed limit, which we felt was reasonable- she led us to our campsite. As I was driving 5 mph- we lost Pam who was indeed breaking this rule on her golf cart. The Campgrounds amenities were less than stellar. There was a dusty, dimly light game room that appeared to have not been touched in decades. The bathrooms floors were dirty. The coin operated 4 minute showers was something that I will never forget. The pool was very nice but we were told that we could only use it if there were two adults in there at all times. Our "campsite" was in the middle of an open field with other campers. There was no septic hook ups which we knew about in advance. I had to leave with our son for a few days. My wife and daughter stayed behind. That night, lights flickered in our camper and our AC went off and circuits were popping. My wife called for help and Pam's husband, John, showed. Up. He rudely accused of having a poorly wired camper- our 5th wheel was a new 2025- only on our second trip. He also rudely told her that she shouldn't have requested a 30 amp. She emphatically denied as she knows our 40 foot camper runs on a 50 amp. This was requested multiple times with as we had previously made our reservation over the phone. Pam admitted that it was her mistake and she also admitted to moving our site. John pointed out that no other campsite would help people in "the middle of the night".... It was only 9:15 PM at the end of June! We have been at Swan Bay as well as several KOA s in New York State, and had wonderful pleasant people help us well after his "middle of the night" time. John continued to insist as he yelled inches from my wife's face (witnessed by my daughter and reported by my wife) that our RV was wired wrong and he boasted that he had a degree in electrical engineering from Penn State. He stated that he knew what he was talking and that my wife needed to listen to him. My wife and I have several degrees but we both know that no degrees are needed to be kind to people. He kindly hooked a battery charger to our (labeled) Deep Cycle battery. My wife called me and said that nothing seemed to be working and I asked if the charger was on regular or derp cycle. It was regular so my wife switched it over to the correct setting. Unable to have any power, my wife and daughter, fleed early and paid for a Vrbo in the area. We had made arrangements to keep our RV there and John was nice enough to help us move it. The price for the unoccupied camper stay increased from the quoted $50 to $100 which I found out about when I arrived. It seemed reasonable at that time. Pam said that for our troubles that she would reimburse us the $100 with a check since we were taking it back home to the Finger Lakes area to have our RV dealer look it over. When I arrived for pick up - Pam indeed handed me a check - only made out for $50.00. No money was offered for the day that we had to leave. After a thorough check from our RV dealer- it was found that our camper was fine. We have enjoyed using our RV to its fullest capacities at other campgrounds the rest of this summer. We were greatly disappointed and are still aggravated by our experience this summer at the Riverside Acres campground in Clayton, NY
