We bought a car from Maple Leaf which was the that had been owned by one of their dad's friends (so they said)
They sold us the car with a 6 month warranty
Within a few days of owning the car the windscreen washer pump went. Then the speedo went (took over 2 weeks to fix). Both of these problems were fixed. Near to the end of the 6 month warranty the gearbox developed a fault where it sticks in gear and the car rapidly deselerates. When I took it back they said that I didn't have a warranty as it wasn't on their system but they would look at it. The guy at the workshop took it out for a road test and did experience the problem. They had the car for over 5 weeks (part of this was over Christmas) after calling the workshop they said that there was a valve in the gearbox that may be the problem and that he had sent the quote to the sales office and they would ring me, after receiving no call after a week I called and the guy said that he would call me back in the afternoon, he then called me back to tell me that it wasn't covered under the warranty and the repair would cost £430. We were never given any warranty paperwork to tell us what was/wasn't covered under the warranty. I called trading standards and got their advice they said that under the sales of goods act if the fault ocurred within 6 months it was the garages obligation to prove that the fault was wear and tear and not a premiture manufacturer failure. When I explained this to Nick at Maple Leaf he said you can't bulls**t a bulls**ter and that I needed to pick my car up and return the courtesy car. Would you want to buy a car from a self proclaimed bulls**ter? IF you do make sure that you receive all relivant paperwork and that your warranty is logged on their system, and be prepared to wait a long time for your car not to be fixed read more
