We definitely made the right choice on this one. Their teaching method really works. It doesn't rigidly focus on rules, but is focused on natural conversation with repeated use of the various features of the Spanish language. Occasionally they'd mix it up a bit by walking to one of the nearby museums or playing a vocabulary-focused board game like Taboo (which was super fun), but it was always a nonstop conversation. It's a fun, relaxed environment, and they're great with kids. Our daughter absolutely loved it. At the end of the first week, we had a party where my daughter and another 7-year-old who was also taking classes there made piñatas which we subsequently annihilated. Then they played bakery, where they ran a pretend bakery and all the adult students at the school went to buy their wares (all in Spanish of course, and it was good practice for everyone). It's quite inexpensive as well, ranging from $9-14 USD per hour of instruction as far as I can tell. Overall, Español Interactivo Language School is a great school, definitely worth the time and money.

In this place students learn through conversations and interacting in cocking classes, excursions and cultural activities. All of this fun learning for an affordable prize. Teacher Luz is the Principal; she is an excellent person and one of the best teachers I have ever met. The way she makes beginner students talk and learn Spanish is so impressive and natural although they were kids or adults. You can find different teachers to learn and practice, teacher Sonia is there too and she is really great at teaching Spanish. One student told me that this school was for her more like a place where she could practice Spanish with nice people. If you visit Oaxaca and you want to learn Spanish this school is an excellent choice to meet nice people and practice a new language.

I came to Oaxaca for 2 weeks to study here. The campus is beautiful and Lucero was sweet during my…read moreorientation. She took time to show me places I was interested in on a map and made sure I knew how to get there. My instructor Miguel was also great. I was in a class with 2 other women. The classes are HARD so be prepared. One of the other students was a lawyer and I am a former college professor and we both struggled. Study a lot. Unfortunately, the school ended up being my least favorite part of the trip. My complaints are 1. The location is on an extremely busy intersection that had protests or parades often. Even without that, there are almost constant horns and megaphones blaring with ads coming from the street. Some days it was almost impossible to concentrate. There are big windows that cool down the rooms that are parallel to the street, closing them helps, but on warm days it gets too hot. I eventually asked if our class could move to a quieter room. They did move us and the new room that wasn't as noisy. It's unfortunate that the school is on that intersection. 2. The registration fee you pay online DOES NOT go toward your tuition which was sketchy as it is not specified on the website. You pay the tuition in full on the first day or during orientation. 3. I signed up for a tour. An employee at the school took my money and said to be there by 9:45am, no other instruction. Turned out I needed extra cash for 2 tariffs (entry fee's) and lunch. It would have been helpful to know how much extra I needed in advance. My other complaint with the school in regard to the tour is that they didn't mention that we get dropped off at the Zocolo, not back at the school, which meant 30 min walk back to my hotel. We also arrived back at 8:15pm but were told we would be back at 7pm. All this should have been mentioned when the school took my money. The tour itself is through an outside company, not sure the name, and it was lovely. The city of Oaxaca, the people and the food are incredible. If you come, research other schools or a private tutor (same price). They will teach you Spanish while visiting local spots to sit and learn outdoors or at cafes. I wish I would have gone that route. One last note- there are mosquitos everywhere at the school so if you're prone to bites, get repellent at a pharmacy. Being swarmed by them prior to getting repellent, while the horns/parades/protests were blaring and trying to focus on Spanish verb conjugations was pretty rough.

All the teachers are experienced native or near native speakers, that is something unique for a language school in Oaxaca. About half the teachers are from countries such as: USA, Australia and England. The other near native Mexican teachers have studied high school or university in the United States. The vibe is very relaxed and they offer a great and especially fun way to learn English in small groups. They have all levels and ages. They offer lessons every day! They also offer German lessons and have offered French before (but do not have a teacher at the moment). Within the school they also have a Spanish department called Viniculaza, the teachers are young, experienced and fun. Besides the lessons they also organise workshops, summer courses, social get togethers and different events and celebrations. The only negative point is that the receptionist in the morning isn't the most friendly and helpful of all, but don't let you get scared away by her, the rest of the staff (other receptionist, the coordinator and the teachers) are very professional, friendly and helpful.
