Booking a room here in peak season requires being online at midnight a year in advance or great luck. But it was worth it; especially with the 2025 construction, it's the best way to get to this part of the park, which is itself a highlight. I love the huge lobby, which has tons of space and seating to eat snacks, play a game, or whatever while looking out the huge windows over the lake. And often a random guest is playing a song on the piano. Our "Value Room" was comfortable and had everything you need. Service was great at the front desk and bell staff. There's a talk every evening; the nights we were there were a native storyteller and a ranger presentation on birds; very different, but both great, and something not many national park lodges offer. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE! A large group of us tried to eat at the lodge, and the kitchen got multiple orders wrong, including giving me food that I told them I was allergic to. When we asked for new plates, we were told that "the kitchen doesn't follow the menu". Apparently the manager doesn't have authority over the kitchen staff, and they literally put whatever they feel like putting on a plate. For example, I tried to order a bison burger with no bun due to an allergy. It was supposed to come with caramelized onions and an aioli sauce. They first brought it out on a bunch with crunchy onions, which are obviously not the same. The sous chef told our waitress that the fried onions were the same thing as caramelized onions. Obviously they're not, and this person is just incompetent. So long story short, do not eat here unless you enjoy playing roulette with your food. read more

Accessing this area involves driving about 4 miles halfway in on a very dusty gravel road (out of 12 miles to get here from Babb). The many glacier hotel looks quite fancy with a lobby with soaring ceilings, many hanging lights and several nice restaurants. Swiftcurrent is the less costly lodging option about a mile further in. read more

Beware of rude staff. My family had lunch at the dining room. Mediocre food for such a grand dining room but that's not the issue. On the way out my mother was considering staying at the hotel someday in the future and asked a maid in the hallway if she could look a peek into a room to see the style and floorplan. She got tearse said they can't let people inside an occupied room for privacy. Like we're so stupid we'd want to go in an occupied room. Then a second employee chimes in parroting the same thing, after my mother said she wanted to see an EMPTY room. Finally a third employee who was actually like they're maybe a manager chimed in, and just said in a patronizing tone we can't let you into a room. Mother, i don't want to go in I just wanted a 10 second peek from the hallway. It's just turning into a case study of poor customer management. So i see 3 them ganging up on my 70 year old mother and step in and said we were just prospective customers trying to get an idea of what your rooms are like. Then someone said we could go speak to a manger at the front desk. Totally escalated. Now in case you think my mother is a K word kind of woman i assure you she is not. For her to become upset it took a lot of patronizing. Here's the proper response in case any manager sees this:" I'm sorry mam, all these rooms are occupied so we can't open any of them but I'd be happy to go speak to my manager to see if we can find a room for you to look at or at least get you a brochure with room photos. We have a beautiful hotel and would love to have you as a guest. I'll be right back." If they'd said something like that we probably would have said , thanks anyway, don't worry about it and moved on. I sent a complaint 3 weeks ago to their corporate web site with no response. My conclusion is the company awarded the contract from NPS doesn't give a darn about customer service since they have a monopoly. On July 25, my cousins and I stopped in at the lodge for breakfast. All they had was the buffet, which was very overpriced at almost $30 a plate. They seated us and we went up to the buffet to get our food. The eggs were totally gone, the bacon was gone, the coffee cups were dirty, as well as the silverware. There were three employees in the area. One of them was working and the other two stood around visiting the entire time. When we went to ask if they could get some more bacon, the young man said yes, and went to the kitchen. The bacon came out 20 minutes later burnt to a crisp. Immediately after he put the bacon on the buffet table, he came around and told everyone they were taking down the buffet in 10 minutes. My cousin wanted yogurt, but the spoons were all dirty. The employee picked up the spoons and tried wiping them off with his bare hand and put them back in the container for someone else to use. Very disgusting! We reserved a motel room three or four years ago. Our room was downstairs in the basement with at least a 4 inch Opening underneath the door. The floors were all cement and to get into our room you had to walk sideways beside the bed. I would not recommend this place to anyone and I guarantee you I will never stay or eat there again. read more

Stayed here for a night on our trip to Glacier. The hotel is historic, so the rooms were a little dated but worth the stay. It's built in the style of a Swiss chalet with connected tiered balconies off the rooms. The highlight though is the views from the deck and being on the water. Our daughter loves playing in the water and being able to go up to the room and toss her in the bath made it so much easier. We weren't able to attend, but at night the Rangers there do talks about different subjects. Wild Flowers was the topic the night we were there. Would definitely recommend staying there if you can. read more

The hotel itself is historic--all wood, no air conditioning. Staff is phenomenal--very helpful and engaging. We stayed in a value room--it was clean and tidy and linens were refreshed daily. Beautiful location and incredible views. We were here to take the shuttle boat ride on Swiftcurrent Lake and Lake Josephine. We didn't have reservations but were able to be put on a waitlist. We waited about an hour and explored the gift shop. I highly recommend the boat ride. Our destination was Grinnell Lake. It's about a mile hike from the end of Lake Josephine. After our hike we took the boat ride back to the hotel and had dinner at the Ptarmigan Dining room inside the hotel. Good food, good service and more beautiful views from our table. I would like to stay here the next time I visit Glacier National Park. read more

The location and exterior charm of the lodge is the only thing positive I can say about this lodge. For $300 a night I don't think our room has ever been updated since the place was built. The restaurant situation was horrible. On the website it clearly states restaurant is for guest only but they were serving hikers and forcing guest to wait hours or not even get a table. We arrived at 5pm when the place opened and told would have to wait until 6:45 for a seat. If you are going to start a waiting list before the restaurant opens it would be nice to let your guest know. I know you go here to take in nature but when the weather doesn't cooperate there is nothing else to do. There is no TV in the rooms and the WiFi if it works is horrible. The place is convenient for hiking but doesn't have anything else I can recommend. read more

This review is for the Swiss Lounge restaurant/bar that's inside the hotel. We didn't stay at the hotel just ate there. Hotel is older and you have to walk past rooms to get to dining. But the food and drinks were good. I had the Surf n Turf Burger. The crab cake on the burger was delicious along with sauce. This is our second time staying at many glacier hotel. Awesome views, excellent close access to numerous hikes, kayaking. We've done the swiftcurrent/Lake Josephine boat ride twice. First time with a hike to hidden falls and hike all the way back to the hotel and this time with a ranger led hike to Grinnell lake. Both times very nice. The boat company is very organized (get your reso online ahead of time and show up 30 min early to get your tickets secure your spot on the boat) Getting back at the end of the day can be challenging due to the crowds. Crowds unfortunately have made Many Glacier hotel a 3.5 star not a five in my book. 1.5 hr wait for dinner in the ptarmigan room--no reservations possible. Almost no parking at hotel left when we arrived on a Tuesday at noon. The dirt road section to get to the hotel causes hundreds of flat tires/yr (including mine) due to nails, screws and loose wire on the cattle guard (info according to the tire repair in browning). The food at both hotel establishments is very good but expensive. Hard to secure a spot outside on the deck but great views. Room was hot--fan helped. old 4-leg bathtub showers are dangerous and should be replaced! Walls are so this we were kept up most of the night by neighbors. Two times is enough read more

Although I never stayed here....still, exploring this hotel while spending the day at Many Glacier....I was highly impressed! This is one of the main attractions featured in this secluded area of Glacier National Park. What I'd like to write about today....is how much I enjoyed this Many Glacier Hotel being situated among beautiful surroundings along with it being the trailhead to some of the best hikes of among this wondrous national park. During my time here I was fortunate enough to have a perfectly sunny day without a cloud in the sky. This definitely enhanced the ambiance. First off, Many Glacier Hotel from the outside is simply rustic! I love using this word, lol....yes this place has that old fashioned lodge type of feel. A true homage to a Swiss-styled chalet nestled in front of Swiftcurrent Lake and basking in all its glory beside stunning mountain and panoramic vistas. Upon arriving at this Many Glacier part of the park....I immediately found a parking spot at the top of the hill of the hotel and from here....I swear I witnessed some truly terrific views, not just of the jagged peaks of the countryside, but looking down upon Many Glacier Hotel and the sweeping backdrop. I got some great photographs from this vantage point. I then simply walked down a set of stairs towards the hotel. Upon entering Many Glacier....the hotel exudes a mountain lodge feel....an ultimate pause in time where you can certainly get lost in nature and forget about the daily realities of life. Past the lobby, there were doors that lead to the backdoor balcony. Wow....from here the views of the lake and mountains together made for exceptional picture opportunities. Although I wasn't around during late afternoon....I could imagine sunsets from the deck being quite special. This balcony had plenty of chairs to sit down on for soaking up the views. People were reading books, relaxing and just gazing out onto the still "postcard" type setting. For me though....I was ready to start hiking and surveying the Many Glacier area. And yeah....from this hotel, just towards the side of the lodge....was the trailhead to one of the best hikes in Glacier NP....Grinnell Lake and Grinnell Glacier. First off....if interested, from the hotel you can hike around Swiftcurrent Lake - an easy 2.6 mile round trip walk appreciating the views of this area. I wanted more! I had heard and read Grinnell Lake offered quite the wonderful setting and since I had the time, I wanted to see it. Continuing on....this Swiftcurrent Foot Trail besides Many Glacier Hotel leads to Grinnell Lake. It was 3.4 miles one way to get there. Although I never made it to Grinnell Glacier 5.9 miles one way,....arriving at just Grinnell Lake made for a fantastic location.....worthwhile in taking advantage of exploring the Many Glacier area. Forgot to mention, in the back section of Many Glacier Hotel, there is a waterfront dock that leads to tours of and around the lake. Also, you can grab a boat for anyone interested in bypassing some of the walking time towards Grinnell Lake and Grinnell Glacier as the cruise from the hotel will transport you to the opposite side of Swiftcurrent Lake.....lending a hand in reducing hiking time. Overall, Many Glacier Hotel is an iconic place to stay.....and at the very least it's visitable and walkable for anyone exploring this more secluded section of Glacier National Park. The lodge seemed to have it all and best of all - it's based along quite a photogenic landscape. I certainly took advantage of my time spent here hiking and photographing. 1. We made reservations for Many Glacier months in advance. We got 4 rooms over 7 nights. 2. My neighbor called August 1, 2014, but all lake view rooms were taken for August 2015 in the first hours. 3. Many Glacier Hotel is in the northeast corner of Glacier National Park. Access is by a 12 mile two lane pot holed paved road, with a 6 short stretches of gravel road. 4. The historic 100 year hotel was built by the Great Northern Railroad, and designed after Swiss chalets -a long brown 5 story building, with white trim and balconies, surrounded by forests, next to an alpine lake, and soaring mountains. The hotel is open from late June to late September. 5. Handicap parking next to the hotel, with the unloading area, shared with the Red Bus Tours. Parking is 200-300 yards away, over a hill at high altitude. 6. The 240 car parking lot is full at 2:30 pm, with guests arriving, and day time visitors and hikers not yet leaving. Cars circle like vultures, with some in no parking zones. We luck out and see a car pulling out. 7. I'm hauling luggage over 67 stairs down to the hotel, huffing and puffing like Darth Vader, while the wife pulls her wheeled luggage down the 300 yard pot holed road from the parking lot, cursing me for not unloading at the hotel! 8. Check in is 4pm for all Xanterra run hotels in the National Park System. 4pm too late for you? Try 5pm check -in for Yosemite Lodge at the Falls! 9. Service is prompt and courteous from the college age kids at the desk, the bell hops, housekeeping, and the information and activity booths. Ok, the lady at the info booth was older -looked like she went to college when I did - in the 1970s! 10. Our first room is ready at 245pm. We take the single elevator in the building to the third floor, with the elevator going at historic 100 year speeds to the third floor! 11 Room 367 has no lake view, but a view of the roof. Both push up screened windows open, as nobody can climb up that severe angled roof! 12. Spacious renovated room, with a squeeky slanted floor, and electric wire pipes running along the freshly painted off white wooden walls. Shelf mounted box fan, as 367 is at the top of the building, and heats up like an attic. 13. Clean austere room -no balcony, no AC, no TV, no room internet, no microwave, no frig, and no cell phone coverage -your teen age daughter will go bonkers! Iron and ironing board -they expect pressed shirts when eating in the dining room! 14. Two full size beds, which we will both use, as I don't want to get hit by a flying elbow from the wife when she turns in the middle of the night. 15. 1940s style two handle sink in the bed room. Claw bathtub in separate room could have been original equipment when the hotel was built -belongs in a museum! 16. During our switch from room to room, we left our packed luggage, for housekeeping to move. 17. Third floor room 315 is in the non renovated south wing. No elevator access in the south wing to the 2nd and 3rd floors. I could not see the keyholes in the door, in the dimly lit dark brown hallways! 18. 315 had a balcony overlooking the road to the parking lot. Heard every diesel pickup accelerating up the slope day and night. Balcony had a screen door and window, so increased ventilation. 19. Noise from open windows heard through other open windows, especially crying babies. Winds come west to east, so balconies facing the lake cool off quickest, in addition to having a view. Balconies do not have lights, so no reading at night outdoors. 20. 315 had no noise insulation -wife was kept awake by snoring -neighbors snoring! I could hear every foot fall from upstairs. Only 1 Ice machine working in the building. 21. Our third room was 313, next door to 315, but 30% larger, with a single bed in addition to the double bed. Same shared balcony, and spacious shower/toilet bathroom, with separate sink. 22 Our fourth room was first floor 137, right next to the manager's office, with a view of the 6 handicap spots in front of the hotel. Two full size beds, with a separate sitting room with chair, desk and lounge chair. Corridor noise from drunks walking from the restaurant to their rooms late at night. 23. No swimming pool -polar bear blood folks swam in the lake out in front of the hotel, with air temperatures in the 80s. I sat on the lounge chairs on the public veranda overlooking the lake, watching moose in a distance wading in the water at dusk. 24. Ptarmigan and Swiss Lounge restaurants. No advance reservations. Ptarmigan facing the lake has assigned seating. Swiss Lounge facing the hills has self seating. 25. Rain and wind on the fourth night, with water leaking from the ceiling windows in the lobby. Pails put out to catch the water. Just in time, as the hotel lobby and south wing to be closed for renovations in 2016! read more

This review is for the Ptarmigan Room in the Many Glacier Hotel. We waited about 40 minutes before being seated right around sunset. Luckily, we were seated right next to the window seat so we caught the very last part of the sunset over the water. It was absolutely gorgeous and I've never seen anything quite like it. The huckleberry lemonade was very disappointing. I thought it would have fresh huckleberry, but it was just flavoring. I ordered the elk quesadilla and Montana stroganoff. The elk quesadilla was extremely filling, so by the time the stroganoff came, I was already pretty full. The meat for the stroganoff was kind of dry although the mushrooms were pretty tasty. Room was small and in the basement. Musty old smell in the hallway, double bed and the bathroom sink is in the room not with the bathroom. I wish I'd taken pictures. For $280+ a night for a "cheap" room you are definitely paying for the history and the outside view. The fine dining restaurant was good but very expensive, get there early to put your name on the list as it is first come first serve. Every other amenity is really packed, so come prepared to wait. It was a good experience for a one time try but won't stay their again. Too expensive for what you get and to upgrade to a nicer/bigger room was crazy. read more

This hotel was our last of three that we stayed at on a three national park tour. Driving up the bridge, seeing the beautiful mountains as a backdrop against the shining lake I had a feeling this would be a great hotel. It is a very charming hotel with the quirks of being built in the early 1900s around 1914. I recommend a first floor room but they will deliver your luggage to you if you want/need as well there is at least one For customer service- five stars. I lost my favorite water bottle by leaving it out on baloney and I was able to get it back at the front desk lost and found. Also, the girls at the concierge desk were EXTREMELY helpful for any question you had and they put me at ease when I could not access the wifi. Our waiter at dinner was very friendly and knowledgeable. Get dinner at the lodge restaurant, it is beautiful and the food is delicious. Or go grab food at the bar/Lounge area. But go early! There are no reservations and they both full up quick if busy weekend or tour bus group staying there. Also, there is a very nice gift shop and little shop to get basics like wine/beer ( including HUCKLEBERRy hard cider) , sandwiches, soda, etc. Our last day we were eating lunch by a giant window on the ground floor of the hotel overlooking the lake and wild bighorn female sheep walked right in front of the window. Great ambiance, beautiful setting, good food, friendly staff, comfy pillows, wild animal sightings, nice baloney/ deck to hang out on, close to prime hiking spots. The lodge was very quaint and cozy with a large fire place and comfortable sofas. The view from this hotel was out of this world. It is so close to trailheads to amazing hikes to glaciers and lakes. We had dinner at the Ptarmigan dining room in the lodge for convenience. The waitresses were from other countries and they were all very pleasant,nice and very interesting to talk to. Three of us ordered Wild Mushroom Stroganoff since it sounded so wonderfully scrumptious. We are very sad to report that it was the WORST dinner we have ever tasted.....EVER. I realize that this is a very strong statement but it is true. For $19 a plate, the sauce had NO flavor. It was basically mashed potatoes with tasteless sauce and minimal mushrooms with Brussels sprouts on the side ( the only edible thing ). We were all so disappointed! I wish the hotel manager can pretend to be a guest and try eating this dish. I promise that he will come to the very same conclusion. Not edible. Two other people in our party ordered a grilled wild Alaskan salmon and a bison chili burger. They really enjoyed their dishes. So please remember not to order the Wild Mushroom Stroganoff. We enjoy Xanterra properties but were very disappointed. The administration needs to visit Lake Hotel in Yellowstone for lessons on lodge ambiance, room design, and guest management. Built between 1910 and 1914, this Swiss-themed lodge sits on the shores of Swiftcurrent Lake inside Glacier National Park. Its location is spectacular. We got a room on the top floor, facing the lake. Wow! What an incredible sight to wake up to! This was the only lodge our entire trip which had an elevator (probably because there were five floors!), so we were thankful. Got a window seat at the Ptarmigan Dining Room - food was ok. Wildlife is everywhere around the hotel. There are trails you can take from the hotel, and also a a ferry to take you to and from trailheads. People were watching wildlife on the nearby mountains with binoculars. As we left the hotel, mountain goats walked right up to our car, and a moose and her baby walked on by. Glacier is also very good for spotting bears - we heard there are more bears per square mile in the park than anywhere else in the country. So, be sure to make lots of noise while you hike! Recommended lodge for its picturesque, unmatched setting and comfortable accommodations. read more

This review is more for the restaurant than the actual hotel as I did not stay overnight, but did explore the grounds. My fiance's parents threw a celebratory engagement dinner here while we were camping nearby. They brought us to the hotel and I was just overwhelmed by the old-school character of the lodge and the scenic beauty of the lake and mountains. Later, we would kayak the lake and it would be one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Hotel: Epic. Beautiful in that time-forgot-about-this-place way. Isolated. Old. So much character. CROWDED AND NOISY. Empty, this would be a pretty scary place to be. There were many grizzly sightings just right across the street. We saw a monster of a grizzly with two smaller bears right behind it perched up high probably 100 feet from the parking lot of the hotel! Main restaurant: The dining room does not traditionally take reservations, it's first-come first-serve, but we were able to show up right at opening (5PM, I believe?) and nab a spot right next to the window overlooking the lake. The restaurant feels very upscale, so I was worried that our casual hiking clothes wouldn't be appropriate, but it seemed that most people there were dressed down. Right before, we grabbed drinks from one of the lounges where the bar is laid out with fresh and unique ingredients in mason jars. I ordered a lavender flavored martini since I had never had one. They even garnished it with some pretty flowers. It was a pleasant surprise to find the bartenders mixing such creative drinks - something I would expect in SF or NYC but not out in the middle of nowhere Montana. The drink was interesting but my future-mother-in-law gagged on it. She's a little bit more traditional, I suppose. The wait staff was very accommodating, attentive, and even dug up some bottles of champagne for a surprise toast for us. Our waitress was really friendly and sweet- we ended up chatting with her for a few minutes about her life. The food was actually just okay. I ordered salmon medium and it came overly well-done. The steaks were also cooked too much. The sides were okay. In the end, as with a lot of touristy places, the experience was less about the food and more about the scenery, people, and ambiance. read more

We stayed at a lakeview room at the Many Glacier Hotel and a Motor Inn room at Swiftcurrent Motor Inn and we much prefer the Motor Inn. Many Glacier is very old, the rooms are tiny, the walls are thin, loud wind blows into the room, and there was a rodent munching on our hiking food at night. I would much rather stay at Swiftcurrent in the future since the hotels are only a mile apart and they are both close to major hiking trails, It is nice to check out this hotel, but staying here is another story. read more

Okay, here's the deal: if you want a hotel that is modern with WiFi and a Keurig in the room, this is NOT the hotel for you. If you want to disconnect, stay in a fantastic historic building, and watch the sun set over the lake each night, stay here. You'll need to book really early--we booked on July 1 2017 early in the AM for a room July 2018. We stayed for four nights last week and loved every moment of our time here. If you can swing it, lake view is a must for your room, and try for a balcony. We loved sitting there each evening and watching grizzly bears (!!) in the cliffs. There is also a pretty good coffee shop in the basement of the hotel, which was appreciated for early morning hikes! Magical place. Make sure you at least stop by if you aren't staying there. Wonderful place and convenient location for the hiking trails. Although my room was cooler than the cabin at Swiftcurrent, it was much less modernized. There are no 3 prong outlets AND the outlets are so over used, your plug doesn't stay in the outlet without you holding it in. Somehow I'd think that's a safety hazard. Wi-Fi is the same as Swiftcurrent (free if you're a guest), but very limited. The passwords for Swiftcurrent and Many Glacier are not interchangeable. The food quality was great! The menu is the same at both restaurants and its the same kitchen. The Glacier "bison" burger was HUGE (thick) and side salad again is tasty. read more

We stayed for 4 days and what a beautiful place for a wedding. The only reason it's a 2 star is because we attend a sit down dinner at the nice restaurant and it was a disaster from the time they split the party up after being told that there would not be a issue to sit 14 of us together. They would not move a 4 top with a 6 top so that we could sit close, we placed our orders separately and 2 dinners were not delivered until we were almost done with our dinner. The steak was ordered medium and delivered well done but we were so done with the manager it was just left on the plate. Our server tried to get the manager to comp the steak or give us some kind of compensation but was denied. What a spectacular Hotel the view from the rooms is fantastic, make sure that you make reservations 12 months in advance to get a good room. The rooms on the lake side have single beds. The food is very good at both the restaurant and the bar. They were out of prime rib so the waitress suggested the bison tenderloin, excellent replacement. Lovely setting YES!! For over $600/night for a non Lakeside room, there is NO cleaning. The hotel is Swiss rustic & beautiful but VERY isolated with limited food choices -- had to wait 20 minutes in a VERY long line just to put our name in for dinner; if you are staying a few days, the menu changes very little. AND do not stay at the end of their season, like we did -- they send their liquor back to their distributors early so very limited lounge/bar options! For the cost of the rooms being pretty inflated, I would visit for sure but not stay.... read more

I so love it here!!! Something about this place just makes me warm and fuzzy. Right now I am listening to live music, a tradition of the lodge that I hope they keep going. I saw tons of wild life today and there are some awesome hikes that start nearby. We came back after a 26 year absence and I could not be more delighted!!!! I am most impressed with Mary. She is a manager and is also playing and singing tonight. She is amazingly pleasant, a consummate professional, always with a smile, even when dealing with pesky customers. If I owned and managed a lodge business I would hire her in second. She made our stay extremely enjoyable and I have nothing but the highest marks for her. Thank you Mary!!!! read more

My husband and I stayed here in a value double room in June of 2018. Pros:  The view is incredible and can be enjoyed from many inside and outside locations in the hotel. Location is amazing for getting to some of Glacier's best hikes and seeing lots of wildlife. Great to have the restaurant/lounge/coffee shop all in one location and we enjoyed meals at all three. They host nightly ranger talks which I highly recommend! We heard Alpine Roadshow and What's for Dinner? which were both fascinating. Cons: Books up way in advance- we booked in March and the value double room was all that was available. $200+ a night is a bit pricey for the tiny room we had with a double bed and no bathtub or view. Mice! I saw one in the lounge and we heard them in our room at night. Overall: Really cool, rustic experience with an awesome view and in one of the best locations for amazing hikes. read more

Just stayed at the Many Glacier Hotel on Swiftcurrent Lake in Glacier National Park, Montana. What a fabulous experience! I've always wanted to stay in an historic National Park lodge and my experience at the Many Glacier Hotel exceeded my expectations. We spent 4 nights in a value room. The room was clean and comfortable - a bit creaky as you'd expect in a building that is over 100 years old. If you're looking to watch TV and surf online during your vacation, this is not the place for you. If you want to enjoy spectacular views, amazing hikes, pretty good food, and camaraderie with your fellow travelers on the balcony overlooking Swiftcurrent Lake or in the beautiful lobby around the fire, you will like it here. The staff was friendly and helpful, if sometimes a little inexperienced - the hotel employs many international kids in the dining room and lounge. Most evenings there were presentations by park staff on the history of the park and lodges, the geology of the region, the natural wonders of the park, etc. Rates are a little on the pricey side, but I considered it money well spent to help support such a national treasure. We stayed at Many Glacier during a 2 week road trip from Denver to Portland. By the time we arrived at Glacier, we had been on the road for a full week. Prior to arriving, we stayed at Yellowstone NP in a very lovely cabin. We couldn't imagine that our lodging in Glacier would exceed the excellent accommodations we had already experienced, and yet exceed it did. Our two nights at Many Glacier were by far the very highlight of this extraordinary trip. We can't wait to come back, and have told all of our family and friends that they must visit Glacier NP, and must stay in Many Glacier when they do. When you stay in Many Glacier, if at all possible, request one of the rooms (King Sized bed) with a view of (and direct access to) the lake. I can't begin to describe how incredible it was to wake up every morning to the sun peaking over the mountains, to drink our coffee while we watched the marmots playing along the water, to watch grizzly bears hundreds of yards away from the safety of our little deck. It was quite warm during the day while we were there (mid-July), and we were fortunate to have a corner room with windows that allowed for a cross breeze. Having traveled the world, visited dozens of countries, dozens of cities, towns, and rural areas in the US and around the world, and indeed many many of our National Parks, our stay at Glacier is among our very favorite travel memories. I have stayed in the hotel accommodations in many of our National Parks, and every experience has been very different and very excellent, but this was by far the best. As I said above, we seriously can't wait to come back! Until then, we live vicariously through the pictures we took of this beautiful hotel and the surrounding vistas. read more

Just spent a week at Glacier and two nights here...stunning location, no doubt about it. The Lodge itself though is wanting in most respects. The interior is dingy at best, and the rooms are like dorm rooms if you're lucky. Some of this is understandable- the lodges are old. What is not understandable is marginally friendly service at best, and atrocious dining options. The menu is pretty uninspired, but the food itself is no better than Denny's. I had a salad and my husband had a veggie burrito for lunch. We could have made better at home with no effort. It was the kind of food you almost wish you hadn't eaten, because the calories aren't worth it. The breakfast buffet was uninteresting. Options for the oatmeal? Golden raisins and brown sugar. For goodness sakes, Glacier Inc, grow a garden! Add some freshness and interest to your offerings! It's not just like a dorm at the hotel, it's like a school cafeteria! With white tablecloths. And ridiculous enormous swiss flags in the dining room. The best thing about this place is the setting (which is incredible). So if you stay here, get pizza to go at the Italian Restaurant at the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn (pizza is ok- and the best option in this part of the park), buy a bottle of wine, and sit on the deck or by the lake. Better yet- drive out to St Mary and have lunch and dinner at the Park Cafe. The best food anywhere around Glacier National Park by miles and miles. read more

This review is for a "dining" experience at the Ptarmigan Dining Room, located within the Many Glacier Hotel. Overall: Expect to wait a LONG time for mediocre food while very sweet servers care for you. If you plan on "dining" here, don't arrive ravenous! We arrived here after an exceptional cruise/hike of Many Glacier and Grinnell Walk by an unrelated company. We were famished on our return and were delighted to learn that the Many Glacier Hotel had a restaurant that could accommodate our very large group within minutes. We were seated in the historic dining room with huge picture windows looking out onto Swiftcurrent Lake and the majestic mountains beyond. The view was spectacular! The room was overwhelming, with super high ceilings and huge candle like lanterns that hung down. I was told I should feel like I was dining in the Swiss Alps, but in reality I felt more like I was at Hogwarts in the Great Hall. This room looked EXACTLY like the main hall at Hogwarts, dancing candles above me and all. We ordered a round of the the local huckleberry beers and huckleberry lemonades for the kids and our meals. The menu was limited so we were quick to order. Our drinks arrived immediately. The food did not. We waited close to forty minutes before the waiters brought an update, indicating our food would be right out. It wasn't. Thirty minutes later, another waiter arrived with a fresh batch of drinks and told us to expect our meals shortly. It wasn't. Close to two hours after we ordered our meals arrived. Some were ice cold, while a few (conveniently the kid's meals) were burning hot. A few bites and we knew the meals were not worth the wait. By then, we had already fed the kids the fruit and snacks we had packed in our bags (as all parents do!). They were ready for a nap. We asked for the meals to be packed and the check. The servers were very sweet, but it couldn't make up for our meals taking TWO HOURS from the time we ordered. Something out of the ordinary must have been going on in the kitchen that day!!! What a location!! Spent two nights here in September 2013 and it was a wonderful experience. I booked months in advance to be able to stay here. Accommodations were basic, comfortable but clean and the sense of the history of the place is overwhelming. No cell reception or Internet service except for in the lobby - a great opportunity to disappear for a bit. The walls are thin, bathrooms not modern but who cares when you can walk outside and take in such a view! We ate both breakfast and a late dinner at the hotel and the food and service was acceptable. And I am thankful that there are no lights in the parking lot - I want to see the night sky in all its amazing glory...there are so few places that truly afford you this opportunity. Don't expect 5 start accommodations but if you are a nature lover, looking for history, seclusion and scenery that blows the mind, this is a wonderful and unforgettable place. read more

This is a RESTUARANT review. We had 4 of us. All had complaints. We have been vacationing for 2 weeks. This was our only bad dining experience yet. My wife ordered a 12$ craft cocktail which was brought in a scotch glass (not a fancy glass) with the tiniest sliver of lime. Drink tasted great but presentation sucked. Their excuse for the glass was all the proper drink glasses were dirty. My sisterinlaw ordered a pasta dish with vegetables added. An entire plate of stale pasta with no seasoning, no oil, no butter, no Parmesan, no sauce, not even garlic-nothing. She was disgusted. The few veggies left a lot to be desired. Had I not complained my sisterinlaw would have sent this back but my complaint took first place. I asked the waitress/waiters what was recommended. They all said prime rib. I decided on the salmon since we are fairly close to salmon country. Out came a tiny salmon shingle maybe 3.5-4oz of overcooked peach flesh. The salmon was not cooked in the skin so it was dry. It rest on top a shoal of perhaps 1/3-1/2 cup of barely/rice. What does that honestly cost? Then a few vegetables. If I were to compare my plate to any other plate at the table/restuarant I had maybe 1-1/2 cups of food. So I complained. Over came Nakitta the manager girl. She proceeded to annoyedly tell me that it was a normal serving size, not I'm sorry it is small. She tells me every piece is weighed on a scale. The 2nd piece in brought was twice the size now remember she said they were all weighed & the same size. Did she decide to remove the charge from my bill- no way. Remember she views me as the guy in the wrong- I'm the bad guy. So I tell her I own a boat & fish all the time that's not 6oz of fish. In addition the last time I ordered a fish my fillet was 10" long & 1/2" thick. What I was served was the 3" tail-end of the fillet. She said she would bring me another piece since I was not going to be "full". So repeatedly she implies the issue is my appetite is to big. So I proceed to list how much I had just ate on the trail before coming into the Restuarant. I honestly was not that hungry. My issue was I order a $25 dinner and got a kids desert size serving. It would have been different if I was eating at a 5star Restuarant with a chef cooking the most amazing salmon ever. But trust me your home cooking is better than anything you'll order here. My group began to pick apart how this manager kept insulting me. She was not friendly or helpful just reiterating how the Restuarant does things. A few nights before we spent 420$ on a fabulous dinner in Jackson Hole- so we were not being cheap. My wife ordered mushrooms & onions as a side. She got 1/2 of a mushroom & 2 ringlets of onion. She was so annoyed. You got to be joking me. Lastly my brotherinlaw ordered a burger which was blahh... He asked for extra pickles and was given a total of 4!! Seriously??? 4 pickles total?? He ordered huckleberry cobbler but they were out. The view was great, the server was great, the Restuarant was beautiful but the food and manager and kitchen were awful. 85$ of wasted money. Wish I would have got Mexican on the way home. When we dine out we don't want to complain we want to enjoy ourselves, our company, our food & our service and usually we do. If you're at Many Glacier Hotel, you're here to visit the east side of Glacier National Park, which is visually stunning. It's a great place to stop in while you visit the park and not a bad place to lay your head. The lodge offers functional rooms, but more importantly, it provides a great spot (and many seats) to sit and watch a sunset on Swiftcurrent Lake or to spot wildlife on the surrounding mountain peaks. Inside, the architecture is wonderful--built in the early 1900s, the lodge is Swiss-themed and constructed of giant logs and old wood. Even if you're not staying at the lodge, visit for a drink beside the giant iron dangling fireplace. There's also a restaurant within the lodge. It's decent. On the plus side, the restaurant uses a lot of local ingredients in its dishes. On the negative side, the food is overpriced (but then again, maybe it's priced just right since everything is being trucked in). read more
