Portuguese, cherry Lacore and a chocolate shot glass with a cherry

Came here because is reportedly the best place in town to do the cherry Lacore shots and a chocolate cup. They were very good, cheap and the decor side is cool.

What else do you say about a place with thousands of reviews online? The hype is worth it. Best pastel de natas we had in Porto, so much so we went twice. Walk all the way to the back so you can see bakers making them fresh! This is a casual spot that only sells these and coffee/espresso. Definitely not a sit down type of place.

Manteigaria was our #2 on our tour de pasteis de nata in Portugal. It was #1 until we tried pasteis de Belém, which is in a league of their own. Don't get me wrong: the natas are solid: creamy custard, crispy pastry. The coffee was good too. There's many Manteigaria locations scattered throughout Porto and Lisbon to get your nata fix. Like, everywhere I turned there was another one!

Came here after our 7 pm dinner so that we can try the pastel de nata at the bakery that has been rated the top depending on what article on the internet says it is. There was a short line to get our order. I saw a YouTube video saying you should get the pastel de nata that has the most burnt sugar on the custard. I told that to the guy handing out the pastel de nata but there was some translation lost since he didn't take the time to look for the burnt top and just got whatever ones he picked. And for that, 4 stars Definitely Manteigaria was good but haven't tried the other bakeries for a taste comparison. My wife's first time trying it, she loved the crunch of the crust and the subtle custard taste compared to the Asian version of this. We ordered 2 for 3 euros and ate it while going back to our hotel.

I haven't tried every Mata specialist in Porto, but wow. The paste is de Mata beer were fabulous. Our friends who live in Porto said we should sprinkle cinnamon on the pasties and have a shot of gonna with them. Are we ever glad that we did just that. Gonna is a Portuguese liqueur made with Gina berries. It's sweet and goes perfectly with nata. I'm writing this on the train to Lisbon, which also has a Manteigaria.

There was a line going out the door so my friend and I curiously joined the queue, which moved quickly (thankfully). We were dying to try some pastel de natas, and this place did not disappoint. The egg tart was freshly hot with a slightly caramelized top and flakey edges. It was really smooth and creamy with a hint of cinnamon (might be a dealbreaker if you're not a cinnamon fan). Personally, I found it a bit on the sweet side so I was glad I had coffee to balance it out.

You can't visit Portugal without eating pastéis de natas! It's an absolute must. We were recommended by our tour guide to try Manteigaria after we informed him that we first tried the egg tarts at Nat'elier and at Fabrica da nata. Honestly, it's so hard to tell the difference between all of these places -- they're all so good! The service is super quick and you don't have to wait long. There's plenty of seating as well. The thing that stood out to me here was that they sell cute espresso/coffee mugs that you can take home as a souvenir. I love the little detail and idea of being able to bring something home from a memorable place.

I got half a dozen pasteis de nata and they were delicious! You get to see the bakers make the desserts in front of you. The pasteis de nata were even good two days later as I took them home to eat.

only €1.30 for a pastel de nata

My favorite pastel de nata that we ate in Porto. This location of Manteigaria is combined with a coffee house, so you can watch them make the nata and order it on one side of the shop, and order coffee on the other side. There is some indoor and outdoor seating. We grabbed two nata plus a small coffee for €3.60. Each nata is only €1.30 which is such a steal! The nata was still super warm when we got it. We were planning to eat it later, since we were trying to save stomach space for dinner, but we ate one immediately while it was still warm. It was so good!! My friend and I both agreed this was better than the one we had the previous day from Fabrica de Nata.

Wow, this 1.4€ custard's warmth, texture & flavor is no joke!!!

Lovely Pastel de Nata, just steps from IC Porto, which is why I've been here ~5x times. The first one was super warm/mind blowing. The next couple visits were also quite good. However, for my most recent trip, I specifically asked for a hot/warm one (bc it's makes a HUGE difference) and the worker said they're all warm. I take a bite and it's room temperature... Word of advice - making sure yours is piping hot for maximum flavor/enjoyment.

This was my favorite of the 3 pastel de nata places I tried in Porto. You really can't go wrong with any of them but somehow this one just had a little more to it. The crust was light buttery and flakey. Maybe it was caramelized a little more than the others. Be sure to add cinnamon and sugar on top. I think I prefer the cinnamon first then the sugar. It was also connected to Delta (the coffee house) which produces good coffee drinks. So it's a great symbiotic relationship.

We happened to walk by this shop and decided to try their pastel de nata. This was one of the shops that was supposed to be a top contender, but I had nothing to compare it to since it was my first time having it. It was fun to see the workers making these treats! We ordered one each and sprinkled some cinnamon and powdered sugar on top. She also got a cup of esresso? and I got a nonalcoholic drink that was a bit refreshing. The pastries were really good! I liked the flavor and the crust was crispy. FYI, there is no seating, but a little standing room in the back if you want to enjoy your treats there.

Too good, my blood taste like Pastel de Nata

These egg tarts are everywhere in Portugal. Just like how Belgium is known for their waffles. Portugal is known for their egg tarts or also known as pastel de nata. This bakery had the most reviews and the highest reviews among other bakeries that serve the same thing. The difference is that there's always pastries that are being made so you know that whatever is coming out or whatever you're ordering is always going to be fresh and probably sitting there less than only an hour. When you eat these pastries, you'll know exactly why the whole country is known for this. The people there are quick that will get you everything you want very quickly. There isn't really any sitting space but you can stand and eat and have your coffee for a quick snack. There's often a line in front but it does move quickly so definitely wait in it because it's worth it

Looking from the window outside, I spotted familiar savory pastries. I suspected correctly that they would be served room temperature direct from the display case. (They don't offer warming serves of prepared pastries.) At the counter, the cashier spoke perfect English. I asked her about favorites of savory pastries. We bought pastries of beef, chicken, 2x shrimps (her favorite), and 2x cod fish (traditional Portuguese recipe). For the why-not of it, we also got a full-size pastel de nata and a mini size. These are packed in takeaway package trays and paper wrapped. To avoid the crowds at the outside tables, we walked to a plaza around the corner and enjoyed them while people watching and looking at the octagonal 4 lions fountain called Fonte dos Leões. Perhaps because we are familiar with these types of pastries, we find the flavors subtly enjoyable. They don't have big chunks of beef or chicken or shrimps inside (American style). They contain finely chopped and well-seasoned fillings inside a potato pastry shell or a flaky pastry shell (for the beef). The potato pastry shell is less common in the US (except maybe Porto in Los Angeles area). In any case, we enjoyed our food overall and thought the prices are reasonable. These would be 5 stars if they warmed them up.
