The Pflugerville community library is so perfect for children and adults alike! WiFi is fast, plenty of tables and chairs for you to read or work, and the staff are super kind! I had to print a few documents today and all I had to do was email it to an address and they printed it quickly for me for 10 cents a sheet in black and white. Super easy and convenient since I was already there! Unfortunately they don't have a licensed notary onsite but the UPS is close nearby that also offers this service. Highly recommend you stop in and say hello if you're in the area and want to support your local library!!

There is also a wooden piano chained down inviting you to play. Along the edge of the parking lot is a story path, perfect for young school-aged children. It is "The Three Billy Goats Buenos" and looks very cute! There is a lovely green area outside by the parking lot.  And the parking lot, while not huge, does appear to be adequate for a branch library location.

I admit I missed the old library for a while (ah, nostalgia), but the new one is really an incredible place and a wonderful asset to the community. The staff are friendly and helpful. My purchase suggestions are almost always requested. I have to pay for the paid membership since I'm outside city limits, which is a bit of a bummer, but I'm happy to support the library. The benefits I get far outweigh the cost.

Austin Central Library is nothing short of magnificent. This is the type of structure and experience you'd expect in NYC, London, and the likes. Absolute perfection. I love the way the book sections and categories are divided and set up on various floors. Each floor is crazy spacious with loads of comfortable reading areas, tables, areas for rest, etc. There are private meeting rooms, a cafe, gift shop, an art gallery, rooftop deck with crazy good views of the city and Ladybird Lake, a children's library called 'Wonderland', an events center and so much more. The librarians and staff are extremely helpful, friendly, and not bothered if you need assistance locating a book. They have almost everything you could possibly be looking for to read whether for research or fun. Access to laptops and computers. Lots of charging areas for media and phones. The library is a true marvel. It makes me happy to see and know that ALL are welcome, especially the unhoused who would otherwise not have a place to go in extreme temps. The bathrooms and entire library are spotless and meticulously clean. We're so very lucky to have this amazing library in our city.

This is a good nearby alternative as they have a free parking lot. The staff were very friendly when I asked them questions, and the restrooms were clean. They had some tables and chairs to work at as well as public computers. Sitting at the table was unfortunately very uncomfortable, but it was bearable for three hours. Once kids started coming in after school, it was so loud. They have a kids' section, but it is right next to the work area, so it was very loud with kids yelling and screaming. I know it's a small library, but it's nice when the kids' section is separated from the work area.

It could stand to be more extensive in its selection, and more inspiring in its architecture. Having said that, the University Hills branch certainly has a more established feel than other branches in the system. Their selection is decent, the service is good, and they have a variety of rooms that contribute to socializing of all ages. This would be my closest branch, my neighborhood library, if you will, so I might be a bit biased, but I liked it.

If you haven't lived anywhere outside of Austin, you truly don't know what you're missing when it comes to public libraries!!! I have found the APL system to be both an extreme disappointment and inconvenient. They are closed on Fridays and Sundays at many branches. I have never before lived in a city (even a small city!) where the library closes any day of the week, especially on Friday! I have also visited the Yarborough branch, and from my experiences, branches lock the exterior book drop during business hours. So much for quickly dropping off a book without parking your car and going inside. I have also been sorely disappointed with the timeliness of receiving a reserved book. APL does not purchase NEARLY enough copies of newly released or popular books, especially for a city of this size, which often leads to a wait time of several months for a highly sought after book. The one positive of the Austin Public Library system, though not at all unique to APL. is the online library and reservation system. I do appreciate being able to reserve a book online to be picked up at my nearest branch. The University Hills branch is a tiny one, with an extremely limited on site collection of books & materials. I primarily use this branch to pick up books I've selected and reserved online, since it's location is less than 5 minutes from my house. I will share a positive word about the staff at the University Hills branch. I have found them to be friendly & helpful when I stop in. Coming from lands of drive through pick-up windows and coffee carts in your nearest branch, I think that the APL system could learn a few things and leaves a LOT to be desired. Especially considering the exhorbitant property taxes I pay to the city each year. If only they would use that money for things I actually care about & use....
