I had to print a few documents today and all I had to do was email it to an address and they printed it quickly for me for 10 cents a sheet in black and white. Super easy and convenient since I was already there! Unfortunately they don't have a licensed notary onsite but the UPS is close nearby that also offers this service. Spacious, spotless, and beautifully designed, it feels like a library meets urban oasis. The top floor is the star of the show, with a mini park, solar-panel shade structures, and breathtaking views of Lady Bird Lake. There are cozy reading nooks, spaces for games, a whole floor for kids, plus a cafe and gift shop downstairs. Parking is conveniently available below. We came for books but stayed for the views! San Antonio, take notes? I'd definitely make another stop here on our next Austin adventure.

Cedar Park's library was buzzing on a Sunday, with very few parking spots available in the vicinity. As I walked inside to get my non-resident library card, the team working at the front desk was extremely helpful. After getting my card, I took the time to explore their space. Their communal work area in the lobby is basically like a coffee shop without the coffee. There's a kids' area separated by a door and a glass window, which I watched a kid smack right into on accident. Not important to the review, but funny! Upstairs is the endless rows of fiction and non-fiction books, with plenty of comfortable spaces to work and private rooms to get tasks done. I didn't check anything out, but I was amazed by the sheer size of the spot. Outside there's an outdoor play area that I would've investigated if it wasn't 105°F outside. It's a lot cozier in the A/C. Cedar Park Public Library is the book readers' mecca for smaller municipalities. I am still dreaming about it a few days later. This is a good nearby alternative as they have a free parking lot. The staff were very friendly when I asked them questions, and the restrooms were clean. They had some tables and chairs to work at as well as public computers. Sitting at the table was unfortunately very uncomfortable, but it was bearable for three hours. Once kids started coming in after school, it was so loud. They have a kids' section, but it is right next to the work area, so it was very loud with kids yelling and screaming. I know it's a small library, but it's nice when the kids' section is separated from the work area.

I have found the APL system to be both an extreme disappointment and inconvenient. They are closed on Fridays and Sundays at many branches. I have never before lived in a city (even a small city!) where the library closes any day of the week, especially on Friday! I have also visited the Yarborough branch, and from my experiences, branches lock the exterior book drop during business hours. So much for quickly dropping off a book without parking your car and going inside. I have also been sorely disappointed with the timeliness of receiving a reserved book. APL does not purchase NEARLY enough copies of newly released or popular books, especially for a city of this size, which often leads to a wait time of several months for a highly sought after book. The one positive of the Austin Public Library system, though not at all unique to APL. is the online library and reservation system. I do appreciate being able to reserve a book online to be picked up at my nearest branch. The University Hills branch is a tiny one, with an extremely limited on site collection of books & materials. I primarily use this branch to pick up books I've selected and reserved online, since it's location is less than 5 minutes from my house. I will share a positive word about the staff at the University Hills branch. I have found them to be friendly & helpful when I stop in. Coming from lands of drive through pick-up windows and coffee carts in your nearest branch, I think that the APL system could learn a few things and leaves a LOT to be desired. Especially considering the exhorbitant property taxes I pay to the city each year. If only they would use that money for things I actually care about & use....
