This is a typical hometown diner. Nothing amazing and basic food. Staff is nice. We got in and out quickly.

I've been here 5-6 times and it's been carry out every time. So...I can't fairly judge dine in freshness vs take out. Pretty busy place, local dive vibe, regulars, etc. My daughter gave the fries and hash browns 2 thumbs up but the spaghetti was 2 thumbs down. I agreed. Love the Ruben and crinkle fries. Liked the Patty Melt but will get it without the slathered onions next time. The burger could also be bigger, smaller for the bred size. Fried Chicken was a win! I'd love to see a spicy version. Seriously....please. Bacon Cheeseburger was ok but it was pretty well done, I prefer medium. Pickles and Crinkle Fries are always great. Strawberry and Turtle Cheesecake were ok, don't think it's made in-house. P.S.-the salads are always wilted, it's put in with hot food on take out. Minor but I won't order it to go.

We stopped in here and had lunch before race day and it was delicious! The food was amazing and the serve was top notch! If you are in Knoxville, IA then you need to stop in this gem!

Always a nice family visit here, wait staff always accommodates with sunshiny smiles. Food was very good quick to table and piping hot; like the coffee...I had French toast 3 serving size with all the stops; butter, blueberries, whipped cream, and just a little maple syrup...soo good I forgot to pre~picture but I can tell you it was delicious. The kids loved the Mickey Mouse pancake plate! Always a good morning in Knoxville; Iowa of course, my Home Town.

This is an update to my previous review. We stopped by for supper and it was a disaster. I asked the waitress if the hamburger was a frozen patty or fresh. She said it was fresh so I ordered the super bacon cheeseburger with fries. The burger looked good, but was terrible. The burger was a frozen patty that was super dry and tough. When the waitress asked how was the food, I said it would have been great if you would have told me the truth that this is a frozen burger. She said well it's pink when they put it on the grill, well so is a McDonald's patty. They did take it off the check, but the staff should know what they are serving. My wife got the chicken strips. They have a thin light breading and were very good. They came with a salad that was excellent. Diner Food is comfort food, and Mannys Diner is doing a great job for breakfast. For breakfast I ordered the two eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. The eggs were cooked as requested, the bacon was excellent, the potatoes were just OK. The potatoes were in clumps and not cooked inside. The toast was excellent. My wife got the Denver Skillet with a pancake and it was excellent. The waitress was very attentive, but we were also the only customers.

It's always an adventure when I visit my brother in SE Iowa and this time was no different. In order not to jeopardize his existence in the witness protection program (something to do with Iowa state senator Steven King, the gay mulatto chapter of the KKK and a blowup doll named Blanche) I will, from here on, refer to him as Quiff Richards or just "Q". Q and I were doing some reconnaissance work for my next photoshoot when we came upon an old red barn that by the looks of it had been empty for years. Having abandonment issues, I find myself strangely drawn to deserted and neglected places. This may stem from my wife who abandoned me and our marriage by running off with a transsexual gynecologist from Nicaragua named Ramone who was having second thoughts on fully transitioning. I guess she wanted to have her cake and it too......you know what I'm saying. Hey Q! I think I've got enough shots so let's find someplace to eat. As we're leaving we see that one of Iowa's finest had pulled his car of the road and was partially blocking us from exiting. We thought twice about asking him for recommendations on local places to eat as he looked as if he was either releasing himself or polishing the barrel of his "pistol". We just waved and smiled as we8 squeezed onto the road. He did not return the wave as his hands were obviously occupied. Ended up at a place located in Knoxville called Manny's Diner. Diner? That's all we needed to see. Diners.....God`s gift to rural America. Diners typically serve the staples of American cuisine such as burgers, fries, meatloaf and of course the quintessential pie and coffee. Hi! Welcome to Manny's....what are ya going have today honey. Q did not hesitate....I'll have the chicken fried steak (another diner staple) hash browns with cheese and two eggs over medium with a side of white toast. White toast??.......racist. I ordered the same You ever wonder why it's called chicken fried steak? Is it chicken or is it steak? You're about to learn something. Seems that a dude named Jimmy Don Perkins, a short order cook in a café in Lamesa, Texas invented it by accident in 1911. As legend goes, Jimmy got an order for chicken and fried steak, and he botched it. Instead of two dishes, he made one... taking a piece of steak, breading it, and frying it just like you would a piece of chicken. And the rest is history. Flo brought us our lunch and it was not bad. I had mine finished before Q. The yoke in the over medium eggs were of a consistency that would make Dr. Pimple Popper giggle with anticipation.....in other words, pretty darn good. The chicken fried steak was decent enough although it might have been better with country gravy, although the chicken gravy was not bad. Hash browns were crispy.....a must. But the white toast!! The white toast must have been bathed in butter. It was heavenly. Thanks Jimmy Don.

A group of us went to lunch at Manny's. It's nice that Manny's has the seating to accommodate our large group. Our server was attentive and provided great service. We ordered the hot beef plate, mushroom burger, and Rueben sandwich. We weren't impressed with the food. The mushrooms were from a can, not even warmed or sautéed. That is unappetizing. The Rueben was grilled on the bread sides but the lunch meat & sauerkraut were cold inside. It just wasn't the place for us.

Amazing potato skin with cheese and bacon.

Very fine reuben sandwich, and the deluxe (choose the deluxe!) comes with a bowl of tasty soup, and fresh-done fries.

Is this absolutely MY best (aka favorite) burger...? Is it the best burger I've personally had in…read moreIowa...? Probably not. BUT it is the best burger I've ever had out of a gas station in Iowa...! Actually... I'm not exactly sure which way this place actually goes... Is this a gas station that sells food... Or a restaurant that sells gas? Potato...potatoe! Lol And it IS a very good burger overall too...! But not only do they serve burgers... They have other menu selections... Mostly all deep fried and grill options... And ice cream! I've seen signs for Iowa's Best Burger Cafe for years while running back and forth on I-80 from the Des Moines metro... Kellogg is about halfway between Newton and Grinnell. We've never stopped here until this past weekend when we were on our way home from the What Cheer IA flea market... Iowa's Best Burger Cafe is just off the highway... The first thing I noticed as the GPS said our route was about to end... It looked like it ended at an Amoco gas station... Huh? And then I noticed the signage for the Iowa's Best Burger Cafe on the building... Oh... So we're here...? Not exactly what I expected..., but I eat at food trucks too so it wasn't going to stop me. I did glance at my girlfriend to see if I could tell whether she was feeling it or not... I think she was just really hungry at that point and didn't really care. Lol There's ample parking. As you enter the building it kind of looks like a standard gas station convenience store...until you turn and look to your Right. Red plastic booth seating. There are two counters and a case that sit adjacent to one another. The counter you order at also displays the ice cream. There's a case displaying some ready to eat options. The register is on a shorter counter closest to the entrance. It's an open kitchen. There is also another small room of seating further to the left as you face the counters. The tables are kind of faux marble. Napkins, salt, pepper, ketchup, and mustard are available in each booth. We were greeted as we walked and I let them know it was our first time there and we didn't know the drill. They let us know you order standing there at the counter. Take a seat. They bring the food out to you when it's ready. You pay at the register when you are done. Cash or card...and there is an ATM on site. They bus your table. There are a couple of menu placards on the counter where you place your order... The 16 flavors of ice cream selection are plainly labeled. The two ladies behind the counter were very helpful and were both personable! We ordered: 2x half pound burger combos (one with cheese, bacon, onions and pickles and one with cheese, onions, pickles, mayo, and lettuce) 1x upgraded side to garlic mushrooms 1x upgraded side to onion rings 2x fountain drinks (Coke products...comes with combo) 1x mozarella sticks 1x two scoop bowl of ice cream 1x single cone of ice cream The wait for food wasn't long. Everything was served hot and fresh! They'd asked us if we wanted ranch... My girlfriend always wants ranch! Not only did they bring us ranch... They brought us a HUGE squeeze bottle of ranch! This is how every restaurant should bring you ranch! While we dined in (as did a couple of other customers) most of the business appeared to be take out. One pro tip... The standard half pound burger comes with two patties. I heard a customer ask a guy, at the booth next to her, how many patties he had on his burger... Huh? He had four patties on his burger... A full pounder! So there has to be a way to add an additonal patty (or patties) too... If you want a bigger burger... Ask...! The bathrooms...not horrible. The food was all great. Good service. No complaints. I wouldn't hesitate to stop in here again! And I know what to expect next time...!

Super cute pit stop when passing through. Highly recommend. Friendly staff, good food and hefty…read moresnack selections!

I'm so glad we thought to order them AFTER our meals came, or I would've eaten the humongous pile as my meal. Delicious! Chicken Wings: they have "the good ranch" and the wings were really good. Dirty Bird: turkey and bacon sandwich, side of coleslaw. All was good. Personally, this sandwich would be awesome with stuffing on it, like a thanksgiving leftovers sammy! It felt slightly...lacking something, but my aunt liked it so that's all that matters. Rueben (forgot pic until half was gone): very good! Perfectly toasted marble rye, french fries piping hot and delicious. Once the fries and Rueben were delivered, that's when we realized we forgot to order the onion rings and ordered those as well. Sirloin & Baked Potato (forgot pic until halfway through my baked potato ): delicious! However, I'm a total sucker for baked potatoes, lots of butter and sour cream. Also, I was so enthralled with the onion rings, I really didn't touch the steak beyond tasting one bite. I did bring it home for my lunch today! So again...let's talk about these amazing onion rings! I love large, hand-battered onion rings, not a huge fan of shoestrings. These hit every mark in my book, and were 100% worth the 45min drive! ‍‍Service was excellent, highly recommend! Sometimes it's just nice to go for a little drive, which we appear to be doing more of lately! All for $75, plus $25 tip was an awesome meal for $100. Very affordable and top quality.
