KICKED OUT FOR ORDERING COFFEE. The owner of the Manhattan, DAVID DICK, kicked out a customer for not ordering off the menu. She only wanted coffee and after stating that she did not intend to eat, she was shown the door. 'We have lunchtime customers lining up at the door who are prepared to eat, you are taking up a table'. The woman was sitting at a table for two and states that there were no customers lining up for her seat, it had been notably quiet all morning. After ordering her first coffee at 11.30 am and then after her second, the waiter and the Owner David Dick, made a huge fuss stating that if she did not eat, she could not stay and told her to pack up her things. 'We need the table' and 'you need to go'. She was ostracised for not bringing her cheque book and this is going too far when they are open for business and turn it away. After kicking her out of the restaurant for not eating, the owner then slid the bill across the table at her like she was a peasant. The owner then chased her down Toorak Road demanding that she pay for the coffee, stating 'you must be the wicked witch of the west'. Then he said 'she was so rude', she can only imaging it was for not paying the bill. You kicked me out she told him', 'you kicked me out', I had no choice but to leave'. The patron left, deeply hurt and completely bewildered at this extraordinary act of hostility and after being verbally insulted. She was not sitting there sipping water, she was drinking coffee, and even so, people are people, they have feelings, they are not bank accounts. The waiter and the owner were literally on top of her and were both offensive in their manner. David Dick's bluntness astounded her. I was stunned actually, not knowing what to do. I had just lowered the cup from my second cup of coffee and I was told to leave. This is unacceptable behaviour by a restaurant or cafe owner. After breaking down in tears, she states she left feeling worthless. 'I urge everyone to keep walking past the Manhattan'. read more
