Concessions

I totally felt bad for the staff here. It was 90 degrees out and my family and I wanted to enjoy a movie given the Minions just came out. Opening Day, they should have expected a crowd. The air conditioning seemed to have conked out or not really working. There were stand alone fans at the concession stand and every theater had propped their door open for air. There were only two cashier's at the concession and one other staffer to scoop popcorn or get drinks filled. All three looked like they were in High School. (Eventually an adult appeared outside the theater on the second floor which was the maintenance/cleaning person and perhaps a manager finally appeared when I was leaving the theatre). The box office was closed so tickets were issued at the concession stand. A bit confusing as there were folks who wanted snacks as opposed to folks who just needed to scan and print tickets to get into the movie. Either way, lines were long and it was hot! I had half a mind to ask for a refund but management didn't disclose there was a problem. Grr. Seats are not reserved here, first come first serve. Stadium style seating and seats were comfy. But this visit, the air conditioner almost non-existent made the theater very uncomfortable. The fan or air coming from propping the door open helped. Just barely. Movie was supposed to start at 5pm, it started 30 minutes late. No announcements or anything were made. The movie was almost sold out as well so it was really rowdy when folks got antsy. I shall not return until they fix everything. A hot mess!!

Classic theater on a vibrant Main Street! Needs a little love but definitely worth the trip.

Comfy seats, an older crowd, a retro feel. Love our movie house

Great films in a retro atmosphere. So quirky in its decor and administration, like low profile like a hobby place for film. Seats are comfy in all 3 screening rooms, a tad too warm or too cold never just right. Volume is usually so loud I have to go tell them downstairs. A great neighborhood spot to enjoy a good film but don't expect the extras or pizzaz of the newer mega theaters and that's good. Hopefully they can eradicate that odd smell that permeates everything.

It's a crying shame...such a cool old building-1925 the guys working there said. It's not the most comfortable but hello it's OLD. My problem? It is DISGUSTING! It's a crime this cool piece of Manhasset history is falling apart at the hands of whoever owns it. I wouldn't sit on ANY of those toilets. My husband said the men's room was even worse. I hope someone wakes up & gives this place the love it deserves!

Upstairs.

Transfer to the E or F train, go the entire length of the Q46 bus, walk a mile in the cold, then see the Bruce movie in a theater in a basement of an apartment complex. It's the day after Thanksgiving, but we have to leave soon since it's only playing at 5. Sounds simple, right? The North Shore Towers Cinema is so obscure that I never went there during my Queens years. But that the glorious era of the Utopia and Bayside theaters before AMC destroyed the locals, prior to suffering its own injuries in streaming times. (No I didn't consume chocolate egg creams on Ave. U and never saw the Brooklyn Dodgers but I do miss the old bagel place on Union Tpke.) I did check the theater out once to see Richard Gere's Time Out Of Mind. The frequent chatter was above Times Square levels. Yeah, I could have asked for a refund but I was here because it wasn't playing anywhere else. This time, the noise wasn't non-zero but it was far better than before. And after a hallway here and an elevator there, you may be surprised by this giant single-screen theater. Important for a movie about Springsteen, there was very good sound quality too, (minor spoiler ahead) helping to delineate the difference between an amateurish home recording and a rousing rehearsal of Born in the USA. The staff was friendly. Full disclosure/geography note: I am a public-transit advocate but it was a bit more convenient on a winter day to take Lyft from Little Neck. Express buses run to North Shore Towers but that only helps from Midtown. I have no insight about the on-site restaurants. There's nothing else in the immediate vicinity but if you're up for 29-minute walks or Lyft there are good options on Union Tpke., Northern Blvd. and Hillside Ave.

I found these guys on Gig Master and really lucked out. https://www.gigmasters.com/brass-band/street-beat Jeff and the Street Beat Brass Band created the most memorable and joyous experience for our wedding party, guests, locals and tourists as they escorted us across the bridge and played for another hour at the wedding reception during cocktail hour. Jeff and his band were super-accommodating, discussing with us exactly what we wanted all within our budget. Moreover, having the Street Beat Brass Band as part of our celebration was, to us, what makes this great city of ours so unique and special--the delight on the faces of our wedding party, the NYPD, the Mr. Softee Ice Cream truck guy and all the people we encountered along the route over the bridge, in Dumbo and on the F and R train surpassed our expectations. Book these guys if you want to surprise and delight your guests at your next event and want to create a lasting impression.

I hired Happy Little Brush Strokes as a painting activity for a bachelorette party, and the company was so easy to work with from start to finish. I reserved my date several months in advance because their calendar fills up quickly! You're able to choose one of the paintings from their website and adapt it to what you need. I chose to paint full-sized wine bottles (and place fairy lights inside of the bottle so it lights up!) since the bachelorette party was "wine themed." The price was $30 per person for the experience. I believe if you choose to paint a canvas, it's $25 per person. Happy Little Brush Strokes came all the way out to Greenport, Long Island to do this activity. The instructor, Bob, was an absolute delight, who was filled with so much positive energy! He provided everything we needed for the event (paint, brushes, water cups, the wine bottles, fairy lights). The only thing we needed to provide were tables, table cloths, and chairs for our group of 7. The experience took just over two hours, and everyone had an amazing time!
