I am a veteran and have a disability covered under the Americans with Disability Act. The security officer Antonio refused to let my service dog in because I don't have a license, however under the ADA, there is no license issued by the government for people like myself who have service dogs. As such, he violated my federal rights by kicking my service dog and myself out. I will be following up with corporate, the local police and the feds on this, but everyone should be aware of this. I never really knew about this ethnic grocery store, it's in the strip mall at the SW corner of 45th St & Military. It's more of an international grocery store than an Asian mart. They have a mix of Asian, Caribbean, Hispanic/Latin, Middle Eastern foods. We came here to get some fruits, had to refill on my staple sauces for home and snacks for my niece. Selection of items are pretty wide ranged, some items you never even seen or heard of before. Large produce, seafood, meat departments, definitely not fancy like Whole Foods so don't expect that. They do have some prepared foods up front too if you want some immediate snacks. We bought some mochi ice cream but it looked like it was crushed from being at the bottom of the box and melted and re-frozen. We came back the next day, brought the receipt, they had no problem with exchange/refund. Hello all, This pains me to share my experience at FoodTown bur it needs to be done. FoodTown is in a great position being one of the few places in florida to have authentic grocery items from all over the world - like rare spices and sauces and items from asia, east Indian and halal foods that we try to bring a little bit of home dishes we grew up with to our own dinner tables. But the sad truth is Foodtown is managed and run by village idiots who act like children and give zero shits about the wonderful opportunity they are pissing away into the wind. The customers are treated poorly, the staff for the most part would rather be some place else playing with their phones and it truly shows in their overall artitudes The management teams are untrained undisplined idiots who actually play games with the very people who support them which is insane! Managers at the store level at FoodTown are completely untrustworthy - incompetent kids who lie and misstreat their customers on the regular and seems to be the standard for this overall clown show. Please allow me to share a few experiences with you: So I've been coming to both FoodTown locations for a few years now and my experience has run the gambit from poor treatment to dangerous food handling procedures to staff mistreating customers which is insane! Early on shopping at the sterling location i was trying to order an Asian tea to being told time and time again it's been ordered and is on the way, and it never showing up - which is understandable it may be coming from overseas so it takes time But when calling in to check on the status and having the staff play games and walk away from the phones laughing leaving me on terminal hold which has happened a few times andaw just shows the overall attitude these people have I mean really? At the military trail location on multiple occasions I've asked employees for certain items to have them point and tell me an isle and then having them disappear? So now I ask the staff to show me where the item actually is and had an older employee walk down the isle unable to locate the item and giving up and just huffing and walking away? when it wasn't where she said - I politely asked her are you checking the back? To her just just turning to me with an annoyed look and not saying a word and walking away leaving me standing in the isle in shock wondering what in the hell? From past experience in shopping in some smaller market chains / asian markets fish and meat departments can have a certain smell which is an indication that the coolers are struggling to keep things cool and possible spoilage. I've seen at the military trail location a while back raw salmon on display on a cardboard box outside the coolers no ice, nothing keeping it cool? I asked the kid working behind the counter does he know that is dangerous and if the health dept came in they could shut down the entire store - to the kid laughing and saying the health dept barely ever shows up and when they do they know well in advance and it's no big deal. Now please keep in mind I've had a few good experiences with one staff member manning the asian isles who helped me find stuff inside the store and an assistant manager who followed thru on locating a tea I missed from an asian store in California called Ranch 99. So FoodTowns upper management is a complete mess, who needs to QA the stores and listen to the feedback: FoodTown needs to figure out who they want to be, some small time clown show operation managed underpaid children who don't know any better? Or do they want step up their operation and become a real specialty grocery chain. I would start by firing their heads of operations and senior level managers along with local store level managers that are responsible for this mess. I would look to hire a senior management team that actually knows how to run an operation at this level, one with experience in over seas supply and grocery chains to help with supply and day to day issues. Now if the big asian grocery stores like Mitsuwa Japanese market, Ranch 99 or HK market was to open up some stores here they would put FoodTown out of business in a heartbeat. Let's see if FoodTown is wanting to grow up and pay attention but honestly I doubt they will change a damn thing cause they have been doing the above for years... read more

This grocery store had a much larger selection of items than I was expecting. Multiple aisles worth of East-Asian and South-Asian items. Had some trendy ice creams I was looking for. Much larger selection of less common fruits and vegetables. Quite impressive really. The prices on some items were a bit steep in my opinion, but overall a good experience. Will likely return again. Didn't really interact with any employees so I can't speak on the service. Cashier was quick though so no issues there. read more

So I live almost an hour away and called up to find out what price do they have for some meat and was told that they don't give prices for anything over the phone that is not cool. OK not to mention most stores have even an online website that has what meets they have posted for sale or sales this week. They have nothing on their website. It goes to a blue screen and the supervisor was not helpful and neither was the other lady in by the time I'm asking his name. The man hung up on me. It makes no sense that their Customer Service is so bad and I will never patronize them again, and I will make sure all my friends don't patronize them. This place is an embarrassment: we all know food has gotten more expensive, and buying food in Florida is more expensive than in other states, but then this place comes and charges almost double of what Publix charges and they serve mostly minorities so it is a sick game of charging those who make little money and exuberant amount for basic needs. This was the only place open on Christmas Day, I ended up paying double for four items. I felt like crying, feeling guilty for not planning well. The service was horrible, the ambience as sickening, seeing people having to put things back on the shelves because of the prices. This review is for the quick service counter and the Jamaican food counter. There's a little stand when you walk in that sells Cuban coffee , empanadas another treats. Very reasonably priced . Around the corner there is a Jamaican kitchen that serves to go oxtail rice and peas, jerk chicken and other delicious Jamaican food. This store carries a large selection of ethnic groceries. It's smaller than the stores in Atlanta, but I was able to find my favorite noodles plus some treats I had no business eating like steak-flavored Cheetos. They had a good selection of frozen dumplings and buns as well. There's a bakery close to the entrance. Years ago, they used to sell pork buns - the main reason I went, but they didn't have any. Buyer beware!, I purchased a jar of olives mid March! opened the bottle and a few weeks later there was mold all over the top! I noticed the expiration date was 4/25! I took the bottle back for exchange and the manager refused to assist me because it had passed their 7 day return policy! We went here as a family, and several of us kept feeling that we were on the verge of vomiting as the smell is so absolutely horrendous. customer service is nonexistent and no one speaks English. i'm surprised the Board of Health doesn't close this place down so don't say we didn't warn you and enter at your own risk. We've been around the world shopping and I have yet too encounter so many negatives in one spot. The gag reflex is really strong even with a mask on. We're all going home and getting into the shower cause it feels like we just visited a stinky smelly slaughterhouse. I drove all the way up here to find a product that I usually get from Patel Brothers, and that was sold out at my local Foodtown in Davie. Unlike the Davie Foodtown which is primarily Asian foods(Oriental, Indian, Middle East) with decent sized Latin and Caribbean options. This Foodtown was primarily Jamaican products, then it trickled down into everything else. Even though I'm Jamaican, that doesn't mean I want to be around these a-holes to often lol I've never seen so many Jamaicans and other Caribs in one store, what happened to "REAL" America lol Walking through some of the aisles I felt like I was back in Mobay in some store on Barnett st. Foodtown sells expired food. I bought 6 bags of japanese purple sweet potato chips. I opened one bag and noticed it was stale and hard to chew. Looked at expiration, and it expired in September 2023. I went into the store asking if I could exchange for non expired chips. Because I didn't have a receipt, man on duty turned me away and walked off. I told him that this is a violation of health food laws. He told me to go ahead and complain and wouldn't give me his name! I'm so disappointed. The staff is not friendly and clueless. read more

This food market is huge and has a lot of international food, however unfortunately it is a smell place, it smells disgusting

I drive 20 minutes from my house to come here and it is worth it. The best thing about this store is their produce section. They have an assortment of vegetables, many of which I have never seen. You can find jackfruit, purslane, sugarcane, and indian bittermelon. The prices are really good. For example, at Publix they sell 22 g of mint in a plastic container for $3. Here you get a whole styrofoam tray worth for $1.39. As you keep walking, you will be hit by the aroma (or stench, depending on your opinion), of the fresh meat counter. It seems like you are abroad somewhere as no one is speaking English and the meat choices are not of a regular meat counter. You can find brain, kidneys, and the livers of various animals along with eel, fish, and frogs. I was in a mix of shock and awe as I perused the options. They have a separate small counter for halal meat. I got a pound of ground chicken mince (keema) for $3 here whereas at Whole Foods near me it is $7. In the packaged goods, Foodtown has aisles from all over the world with the flags of the respective countries hanging in each aisle. They have aisles for Thailand, Korea, Haiti, Jamaica, India and many other countries. Rhey also have areas with the regular American items. The prices in the packaged goods aisles are not necessarily cheaper than conventional stores. For example, a mini sized thousand island dressing was $2.19 whereas the full size at Publix is close to the same price. Indian Shan Masalas are $1.49, but at Patel Brothers (Lauderhill) they are around $1. Overall, it is really interesting to come here. The produce is sometimes worse quality than Publix or about to expire, but I like having the option of saving money on my bill by getting something that is blemished but still usable. I like that this is preventing all these foods from unnecessarily becoming wasted. My advice would be avoid this place during the weekends; it is absolutely chaotic. Wear a sweater because it is cold and enjoy the experience of seeing new cultures and food at your local grocery store. read more

Found my mooncakes! I just found out about this place from Yelp. The neighborhood was questionable, but I was in the area today. What a great find! It has all my Asian cooking needs in one place. Great selection of veggies, frozen seafood, frozen dim sum and buns, chinese sausage, thin sliced beef for bulgogi, sesame oil, oyster sauce, noodles, and fresh asian mushrooms. The aisles are wide and not crowded. Store was well organized in significant sections by culture. They have a great selection of seafood and meats. There's also a bakery case in the front with buns. But my favorite find was the variety of mooncakes for our Autumn Festival. Some with one yolk, some with two. Prices were very reasonable. I will have to make this my regular shop. read more

Foodtown is such a fun place to explore and shop! My husband and I love to experiment and cook different ethnic cuisines. You will find spices and ingredients not found at your big chain grocery stores. They have a wide array of Asian vegetables as well as the everyday stuff. We have purchased chicken, beef and pork but have stayed away from most of the seafood. They do sell live seafood - crabs, frogs, eels but the fish never looks all that fresh to us. They have a small bakery and prepared foods section. It is always busy but we have not tried any items yet. You really need to visit Foodtown to understand the magnitude of their ethnic offerings. My only complaint is the smell of the grocery store (if you've been inside you know exactly what I mean lol). Best place to get grocery from they have different varieties of food from Asian to Haitian. They have a lot seafood. They also have bakery and sell hot food. Great prices here recommended to friends and families. I can't be one of the employees told me to go get him a bottle so he can scan it bc it won't scan the big box. Foodtown Supermarket 1/26/18 My first impression of this supermarket was...WOW! it is SUPER huge, and stocked to the seems with food from literally all over the world. I mean you can find food here to prepare just about any dish. There were fruits and vegetables I had never even seen before and could not even pronounce. Seriously, if you have a recipe or a spice you have wanted to try but did not know where to find those new and perhaps unpronounceable ingredients, this is the place to shop. They have a very large and well stocked seafood section with fresh fish from all over the ocean. Be warned, they will be looking at you as you pass them by. ;-) I will have to agree with some of the other Yelpers about the parking and crowd, but it makes sense to find it packed with people from so many of the diverse cultures this lovely city is known for. Which is another tip from me...if you are looking to practice your foreign language skills this is the place to do so. They have a LOT of international ingredients. I'm white af but I do attempt to cook and bake things from other cultures often. I have found ingredients here that no one else in the area had. I adore the Asian rows especially. My only complaint is that inventory changes a lot and it moves too so sometimes you can't find what you're looking for or it's hard to find. Some of the other shoppers and employees can be rude but I don't really care, so can I lol. Overall, I recommend it. I tell people about it all the time. Amazing store with basically every ethnic kind of food to be found, the Boba tea was deelish, the Chinese Bakery excellent and the little Jamaican restaurant inside the store was very authentic. The Halal food is a good touch and the selection of Fish was plentiful but I would have loved to see them carry some Pomfrets! They have the broadest selection of ethnic foods and spices in Palm Beach Country: Middle Eastern, Latin American, Caribbean, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Philippine, and more. There is a large fresh fish market with a staff ready to clean your fish. There is a very large produce section. I have a love-hate relationship with this market. The ethnic food selection is very good but some of the customers and employees I wish were at another store.
