It has been a long time since I've last written a review on Yelp, but after having eaten at The…read moreFish Market yesterday, I felt compelled to write about my experience. We had made reservations for ten people, but our group arrived in smaller groups over a period of an hour. The Fish Market was very understanding and patient with us, and we happily enjoyed some wine and oysters during this time. When we were finally all together and had ordered, the food was quickly prepared and served. Moreover, the dishes were presented beautifully and in a grand fashion; the portions are not small, at all. I had the pleasure of enjoying the sole (zeetong), which was very delicious, simply serves with a cup of clarified butter. A perfect combination. The rest of the table enjoyed the mussels, the cold seafood platter, and a mixed grill. Everybody enjoyed their food very much, and it must be said that our group included an Australian top chef; she too was impressed by the quality of the food. One batch of mussels were unfortunately cold when they arrived to the table, but when we pointed this out, the host apologized and was happy to take it back and produce a new, fresh serving. The design and atmosphere of the restaurant is interesting; unlike other restaurants, the Fish Market doesn't care for dimly lit lights or red chairs. Rather, with the white tiles and industrial lamps, they have tried to make it look and feel like you are in the back-end shop of a fish monger. As eerie as that may sound, it isn't. Strangely enough, it makes for the perfect place to have some good quality seafood. Overall, the quality of the food was extremely well, which, in combination with the great service and atmosphere, makes The Fish Market my new favorite in town.

Fjord was by far the best meal I had in Rotterdam…read more Located right by the water, the views were perfect and the restaurant itself was beautiful. Great to be in the air conditioning while the sun was beating down outside! Seafood is the name of the game at Fjord, so when in Fjord... I started out with the salmon sashimi. Thick sliced salmon served with soy sauce and ginger. Some of the best and freshest salmon I've ever had. For my main, I went with the whole dorade, which was cooked in a saltcrush layer. It sounded interesting, but the presentation was even better. My waitress came over with the fish still covered in the salt shell, cracked it open, and then uncovered the fish inside with a fork and knife for me before skinning it. Dinner and a show! The fish was cooked perfectly, really tender and meaty. I think I ate every little bit that was left. If you're in Rotterdam and love seafood, I would definitely recommend Fjord! It's reasonably priced and everyone was wonderful!

My husband comes to Rotterdam often and he raved about this restaurant the last time he was there…read more On this last trip, the kids and I went with him and while in Rotterdam we tried this restaurant ( our kids are 7 and 10, well behaved, so we take them out often). We had been to other nice restaurants and all have offered kid menus. Unfortunately, this restaurant did not offer kid friendly options other thank french fries. So since we had already taken the Metro down there, we just ordered the 3 course surprise menu with wine pairing and added the fries and lentil dish plate for the kids. The first course was just sashimi/fish and a small portion (all the courses came out on one plate). The sashimi was good but we get pretty good sushi and sashimi in California so we were not blown away by the first surprise. The 2nd surprise was aged steak with a couple of sides. Honestly, I don't even recall since it wasn't that great and again small portions. However, the steak was perfectly cooked and tasty. The 3rd course was a dessert, a brownie with a sorbet but the chocolate brownie was pretty dry. Overall, the food we received was just okay...nothing I would rave about. As I mentioned previously, the portion size for each plate was not that big so we ended up eating some of the kids fries while we waited in between plates. Our poor kids were so dissapointed too we had to make it up to them after we left. The restaurant was very clean and modern. The host who took our jackets was very kind, shy but kind. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and had a great personality. We definitely appreciated their effort to help us with picking out food options and speaking English since we don't speak any Dutch. We won't be returning as a family and my hubby is thinking twice about returning since we all felt like it was a big let down. There were plenty of other good restaurants that also catered to families.

Chill neighbourhood, friendly staff. Food is 'okay' but quite slow…read more Good for afternoon drinks in the sun, and if you are not in a hurry or hungry. Drinks probably around 10-15min to arrive even if not very busy, food probably 40-50 min except the bread basket with 2 dips (4 Euro) which comes faster. Menu rotates daily, but the dishes are not varied - all fish come with same salsa/lemon wedge, grilled and salted. Given the fact they function with a griddle and oven it's ok, but really wish there was at least few different sauces (eg buttered herb, lemon, garlic, spiced, etc.) so that people sharing at a table can have more than one taste amongst different dishes. Even though I can appreciate fresh seafood, the menu almost consists of a single dish served with different fish, meaning there is no appeal for me to come again to try other things. I feel like they could really benefit from a fryer for some salt/pepper squid, fish and chips for the relaxed pace and location for the restaurant, and to add variety to the griddle. Cocktails are not very strong, but otherwise fine to drink, nothing very special (Mojito, Long Island Tea, Gin & Tonic, etc. @ 9 Euro each) Dessert is also just 'okay', really nothing special or desirable to come again. (between 3.50-5.00 Euro) The atmosphere is well thought out with lights and blankets, that would be the main appeal of this restaurant.
