Ginger Lime Juice

I don't know why it took me so long to try this place, it's fantastic! The restaurant is located in a strip mall and has a market inside so you can purchase seasonings and other ingredients. I was warmly greeted by a very nice lady and she answered my questions about the menu and took my order. There are a few tables for you to dine in but it looks like a mostly to go place. I ordered Egusi Soup with Fufu and a Ginger Lime Juice. The Egusi Soup had Chicken, Smoked Turkey, Melon Seed and Spinach in it. I wanted to eat it there while my Fufu was still hot. Well, as soon as I tasted the first bite I knew I would be back to this place soon! The soup is rich and very flavorful, just the right amount of seasoning perfect for eating Fufu. I took my leftovers home and had another incredible meal. By the way, this is the sister restaurant of Bala Bistro. I can't recommend this place enough and the refreshing Ginger Lime Juice.

The food at Mande Dibi is incredible, it's some of the best food I've had in a long time! We went for lunch to try out the buffet. I had the collard greens, salmon, lamb, potato fufu, and the egusi soup. The soup is probably one of my new favorite foods. I like how they charge per pound, and the person behind the counter serves the food. I've already decided I'll be going back for lunch next week as well. The inside was very pleasant and clean, and there is a small grocery area inside. I bought some African soap and a net sponge from them as well. Everyone should check this place out, I need it to stay around forever!

Salmon Thiou, white rice, and side salad

My friend and I saw this restaurant on the list for MBRW '24 and decided to give it a try. We went as soon as they opened, so the wait wasn't too bad. We both had trouble deciding what to eat, as everything looked so delicious! I finally decided on the Salmon Thiou (pronounced choo) and got a side salad to go along with it. When the server brought out our food, the portion sizes was ridiculous! There was seriously enough for 3 separate meals! And while it was delicious, my salmon dish was really spicy. I didn't see anything to indicate the spice level, so I really couldn't enjoy it to the fullest. This dish is a salmon meatball, and it is likely be bound together with bread, which is an issue for gluten-sensitive people such as myself. I ended up giving the remainder of my dish to my husband who is a spice guy and he definitely enjoyed it. The young lady working the register was kind and patient. The restaurant was clean, homey, and inviting. Overall, I think hubby and I will definitely be back to try some other fares. I'll be sure to ask about the spice levels and ingredients the next time though!

So I really like this place. It has a lot to offer here. I came here last year for a pickup order. So I didn't get a chance to eat inside this time. I got a chance to dine in and I enjoyed the experience. I had the a goose soup with the foofu, and these items were on display as a part of their buffet options. Now I also decided to order their goat dib to go, and I can happily say that I enjoyed everything from the agousie stew that I ate inside to the goat dibbie that I ate later that day. I also enjoyed the store. Uh, front options that they had. That is a part of the extension to the restaurant so you can purchase things including food items. If you want to make your own African inspired food choices from home. They had things from the turmeric to goosey and foo ingredients. So I will definitely be back to buy these things so that I can try making this at home. They also have a lot of beverages and sea moss options in their storefront section, so you can purchase things like that as well. The inside of the restaurant is pretty roomy. They have a lot of tables to dine. It can seem a little cold because there might not be a lot of people there, but that really is based off of people coming and they should, because the food in it.It's really good here.

The food here was pretty OK. I tried the meat pies. The meat pies had plenty of meat. I thought maybe that the pies would have other ingredients such as maybe vegetables or cheese, but it is truly a meat pie. I like the onion relish that comes with it. The salad has an acquired taste, but not bad. The chocolate cake was my least favorite. Unfortunately, the cake was pretty dry. The icing was rich but not bad. Because of the sponge the cake was a no go for me. I also tried the hibiscus juice. It is good if you are the type that enjoy sweetness. It was overly sweet for my liking, but I'm sure others may enjoy it. I will be willing to come back and give some other items a try.

This place is amazing! The service was outstanding. They answered all of our questions about the menu, and we were able to try dishes before we ordered them. It was so helpful because it was our first time there. The food was incredible. We loved everything we tried but our favorites were the thiep yapp with lamb and jollof rice. We also tried their slushees and they were delicious. They have different flavors but we went with the hibiscus slush and tamarind mixed with ginger lime. 10/10 recommend this place we will coming back soon to try more of the menu!!!

I cut them some slack because they made it quickly and poured it into the plate before it had time to thicken. They also use something other than the white fufu I'm use to. The wait was very long. (Althouth they were very courteous and kept apologizing). The egusi has a very VERY different flavor than Nigerian Egusi. It gas a smokey bitter flavor. They also mix in different types of greens and other things. Although it was still good. I had to pick a lot of the meat out because as I mentioned in the photos I uploaded I couldnt tell what I was eating and the meat had a weird texture and the parts they used were strange. I swear I got part of the anus or genitalia. Just review my pictures. I also give three stars because none of the workers had masks. This place is literally a Covid-19 Hotspot. They had their children and teens in there lounging around the place (its family owned I believe) and they were coughing with the dry coughs (with no one covering their mouths) and the dry coughs are a hallmark of having covid. I was double masked and the place was warm on the inside as they had no fans or a/c and they had the door closed. I couldnt understand why no one had on a mask. So weird. Especially given the amount of coughing going on. I was so thirsty at the restaurant but they didnt have a drink machine or sodas or even bottled water. They had nothing but large jugs of what appeared to be a powdered drink in gallon jugs (the powder had settled to the bottom of the jugs and it was a lot). They had good customer service. Although it wasn't the customer service we are use to in the U.S. The young woman tending the counter was cordial and friendly. But when I called the restaurant before I came she answered the phone with a sleepy "Hello". I thought I had reached someone's home at first. I didnt know what to expect. I sort of thought someone may have been cooking out of their home because the rest of the conversation was very relaxed and nonchalant and she was like "yeah, we have this or that" and did not elaborate. It's just not what I'm use to dealing with American businesses and American style customer service. Overall, I will never order fufu or egusi from here again. I may return to check out their fish dishes. The Senegalese are exceptionally good at preparing those and I saw some of the meals they made with fish and they were very appealing. My suggestion to them would be to perk up when customers call and sound like more of a business. Season the meat in the egusi more and stop using parts of the animal that most would throw away. Also, run some fans on the inside or the a/c. Or open the door and leave it open. It was stifingly hot on the inside. There was no air whatsoever. Also, please mandate masks. People were coughing, there was no ventilation, it was hot, the air was still and that's not good. Last, offer guests a drink. Even a drink of water. I was so thirsty while there and there were no single serve drinks to even purchase. All that was available were gallon jugs of a powdered drink. In closing I ended up throwing out the Egusi and FuFu after a few bites. The fufu never turned solid. It stayed very mushy and sticky. It clung to my fingers like gum. The meat in the Egusi, as mentioned above, was not seasoned at all. The Nigerians season their meat and slow cook it in additional seasonings so the seasonings are well infused in the meat. These people seasoned the greens and I believe they simply put in unseasoned meat. The seasoning did not stick to the meat. The meat was flavorless. Also strange textured. At times I didn't know what I was eating. On my way home from the African Restaurant I had a serious case of anxiety because of how many ppl were coughing in there who were not wearing masks and how poorly ventilated the place was. Here it is a day later and I'm still having anxiety attacks over sitting there. I should have walked out.
