Manatees seen from East end of viewing bridge.

Great viewing for the manatees, black tip sharks, redfin needlefish. Those are what we saw today. Had to park in overflow lot but expected, cause when its cool, the manatees will hang out & huddle up next to the power plant at the viewing area. They have 2 viewing bridges. You can take the tram from overflow lot, but we chose to walk. They also have several nice walking trails, concession stands and actual bathrooms. Worth a visit. No fee for admittance or parking. Bonus

Looking for a fun and free activity for all ages...Manatee viewing Center is the place to visit. They are open between November and April. Parking- free with an overflow parking lot where they have golf carts to give you a ride to the viewing center or take a nice walk (about a half mile) through palm trees and vegetation. The center has viewing platforms for you to overlook the Manatees and other fish swimming around. They had people sharing information about manatees which was very informative. There were ample bathrooms, a concession stand and a gift shop. There was also a stingray area where you can get up close and touch them.

Really cool experience. Parking lot is normally full so you have to pack in the overflow which is about 15 minutes walk away. There is a shuttle... but it looked like it took forever. It only fits like 6-10 ppl and tons of ppl are waiting. Manatees just float and hang out. Gift shop. Touch tank. Touch tank had about 30 ppl on line. It was quite busy on Sunday

This is such a wonderful concept for the Tampa Bay Area; it's a great opportunity for locals and visitors to view manatees in a somewhat "natural" habitat. We particularly enjoyed the stingrays and having the opportunity to touch them. It's a great place to stroll. I think the worst part about this place is the parking and the lack of proper direction. You are literally just circling and the staff members are not helpful, which made me give 4 stars because attempting to park was atrocious.

We went in on opening day this year, Nov. 1st. Very pretty nature walk on the various boardwalks. There is a recording that explains all the flora and fauna of the area. We were able to view about 30 manatee, 10 black tip sharks and several Tarpon. I heard a lady say that in January there will be hundreds of manatee in the area.. We will be there again to view the manatee spa. lol See you Soon!

The Manatee Viewing Center is a fantastic free area to check out manatees and just enjoy nature. Parking is free, but the lot can fill up depending when you are visiting. We came on a weekend day and had to wait a bit for a spot, but it was not a big deal. We enjoyed checking out and learning about the manatees while we were here. There are several educational signs throughout the area/on the boardwalks. Afterwards we walked on the trail which was maintained well. There was a gift shop and cafe, but it was quite busy we didn't even bother to check it out. Overall: definitely recommend!!

We truly enjoyed seeing the manatees. And the trails were lovey to walk along. Clean facilities were an added bonus!!

I came here on a cold day and there were SO MANY manatees! The facility is really nice, with bathrooms and some fun activities for kids. There is also a tank with rays, though it wasn't open the day I went (probably due to the cold). There is a window with food and drinks as well, I didn't try any but it's nice that they have this available! I went out onto the boardwalk and got to see lots of manatees swimming and huddling, including some babies. There are also small sharks and tarpon. Overall it's a really cool place to go on a cold day and a great activity if you're here on vacation!

A fantastic spot to see manatees! It gets pretty crowded on weekends, so don't be surprised if you're directed to overflow parking. I actually prefer it, though--the walking path from that lot to the viewing area is beautiful. Definitely a must-visit if you're in town on a chilly day

    Jennifer H.

Oh so cute to see all the manatees. Free park, walkable path, just a nice little park to see some locals.

What a great setup they have here, offering it for "free" to the public. Upon arrival we were directed to the overflow parking lot, about 1/2 mile away. They have a scenic trail you can walk from the lot to the viewing area, but also provided free shuttle service on golf carts that can carry up to 8 people (if not too rotund). The viewing area was patronized by children on school field trips, many elderly, and those in between (foreign tourists included; but it did not feel crowded at all with two viewing platforms. They have a turtle rehabilitation area, butterfly garden, ray petting area, plenty of shaded picnic benches, and more. Of course there were hundreds of manatees too! We were really impressed with how modern the facility looked and felt, with strong infrastructure throughout. The restrooms, gift shop, snack bar area were all very clean. The prices at the snack bar, which is the only photo I will post for an update as of this date, were extremely reasonable, albeit we did not partake in any of it as tempting as it was. The staff was also quite friendly when you needed to interact; and even when you didn't need to. I highly recommend visiting here if you get the chance.

The Manatee Viewing Center is a wonderful place to visit and best of all, admission is completely free. There's plenty of parking and a long boardwalk that lets you walk out and get an up-close view of the manatees. The center offers educational experiences where you can learn all about manatees, including seeing manatee skeletons. There are also hands-on exhibits like a stingray touch tank and a hurricane simulator. The gift shop is fantastic, with just about anything you could want that features manatees, and there's a small café where you can grab lunch. You'll also find picnic tables along the boardwalk, perfect for sitting, relaxing, and enjoying the view, as well as a lovely butterfly garden. One of the best parts is that the cooler the weather, the more manatees you'll usually see. Even though we've visited many times over the years, we always look forward to going back. It's a place that never disappoints and is a favorite for us year after year.

Not many people know about the care that is given here to rehabilitate sea turtles from all over the country. There were a little over 30 cold stunned sea turtles on the day that we visited in February. Some were even shipped from as far as Massachusetts. There were a couple of Loggerhead and Kemp's Ridley, but mostly Green sea turtles. All of which are endangered. You'll see the injured sea turtles in various stages of rehabilitation. Some were in warming pools while others were in what they call deep-dive foraging tanks. They have to show that they can forage for food before being released back to their home. It was quite the experience to see them being treated from a viewing window outside of the veterinary hospital part of the facility. They looked to be very well cared for at all times. It's an amazing thing! They have partnerships with TECO and various companies, just like the Manatee Viewing Center. It's also a free activity. However, please consider making a donation. I read that it can cost up to $15,000 to rehab a single turtle. I believe that also includes the monitoring of released turtles through a satellite tag tracking system. There's so much to say, but each visit is a unique experience. You never know what you may encounter. Don't miss it.

You simply take a golf cart from the back up second lot at the Manatee Viewing Center. Best part, this is free! 34 Sea Turtles were here when we visited yesterday. They all came from the same location. They were in the northeast and were cold stunned, so they were exposed to the cold water for too long and needed to recover. The turtle rehab becomes their home so they can get better, & eventually be released back at their home. Once you walk up the stairs, there are several areas. My experience was seeing the first couple of the bigger sea turtles that you see through the glass. They are so cute and they smile and wave to you through the glass. I then saw two smaller sea turtles. They swim around the water. The next area shows graphics about their food and what they eat, as well as their sizes depending on the type of turtle they are. The next glass will be about sea urchins, and a science lab. I didn't see too much here, but someone was working very hard. The next glass area will be the lab and the water quality. This is an area they bring the turtles to. I saw them weighing the turtle in this area and it did not even move. The next area is the vet lab for the turtles. They get examined here. They had a laser treatment for a turtle and an X-ray when I was there. You see the love they have for these turtles as they interact and care for them. Lastly, there is a bigger aquarium with a big number of separate crate cages. Turtles, I learned can be territorial. They are separated. In this aquarium, they feed them separately. The depth is much deeper simulating how deep they go in the ocean. They want to make sure they are well to be able to swim so deep before they are released. This was a very meaningful visit besides learning more about them. I'm happy they have this here. It was built in 2019, and it seems just in the few years, or even more recently have been when the tours have been more active. I can't believe I never knew about this. That's why I am just so happy after this new found visit. This campus area is huge - 10 acres. They also have a coral conservation area they is not open to public yet. There are two other buildings, one for many school children activities that correlate all that is involved here and in the environment. There's another building not open to the public I believe. Check out their website attached to this profile, they have so much. What a great visit!!
