This is a great quick stop to stretch you legs and add something more to your brain. There is a lot of history and wonders at this small park. Those in the car with you (all ages) will enjoy it as well. Lots of photo opportunities. Watch the video inside before you walk about as it will show you what to look for. Make the walk over the dam to the old generator room. Th kids and the kid in you will love it! Look for the large trout below and off to the side near the banks. There are plenty of places for a picnic. Plenty of room to move about before getting back on the road. The 3 questions to learn the answers to are: 1) where is the spring, 2) Where does the water come from and 3) why are there no fish in the lake. The park staff can give you lots of tips on what to do and see. They can also advise on where to eat locally for stop to feed your car.

This park was small, but very cool. Mammoth Spring is actually the largest spring in the world, with an average of 9,700 gallons of water exiting the spring every hour. It's about 80ft deep, and because there's a dam, there's a lake and that same 9,700 gallons of water at the dam, spills into guess where, Spring River. There's a trail around the lake, and a railroad museum in the once operative railroad depot, and a still used railroad with quite a few freight trains passing through regularly. There's also ducks and geese, and apparently muskrats as evidenced by the dens on the lake. It made for a nice peaceful tranquil venue for a picnic at table by the damsite.

This park was surprisingly nice! We stumbled across it while on a road trip and decided to take a bit of a breather. The water is stunning, the staff is pleasant, and the wildlife is abundant! We took a nice little stroll enjoying watching the birds and the beavers. For all of you history or aquatic buffs there is plenty of educational tidbits throughout the park! It is a very immersive and interesting experience. It isn't the largest park nor the most beautiful but it is certainly worth a visit if you happen to be in the area!

Interesting nice small SP. Somethings weren't open but some were. Railroad Museum was closed, Welcome center was open and fish hatchery was closed. Lake and River was cool, spring was interesting. Plan returning later this year when it gets opened up, hopefully. Nice place and worth the time.

Other reviews have provided much more useful information than I could, so I don't have a lot to add regarding Mammoth Spring. Although the features here are man made, they are still historic and rather interesting. We stumbled upon this as a place to walk around and use the facilities, but wound up becoming pretty entranced by the park and stayed for about an hour.

This is a great place to bring your family if you are on vacation. It's free, beautiful, and the fish hatchery is awesome! :) Don't forget to go get some ice cream at the spring dipper after you've walked the trails, visited the train museum, fish hatchery, and played at the park! :)

We got to see the ducks and beavers up close, we even saw a beaver helping with the dam.

There are several great places to visit as a part of this area, but my favorites by far are the Current River and Big Spring on the Current River, and the campground of the same name. I have a wonderful group of friends that introduced me to floating on the Current when I was in college, and ever since this river has held a special place in my heart. We usually camp at Big Spring Campground. There are both electric, non-electric, and RV hookup's. There are real bathrooms, as well as hot showers within walking distance of camp (not porta potties, but it is a campground - so say hello to your local, resident spiders and their webs). We like this camp, because it's right on the river, family friendly, and close to town but far enough out to enjoy nature. While camping a must do experience for all is a walk to Big Spring. It's a natural cold spring, whose source pumps out enough fresh water to fill Busch Stadium in 33 hours! I like to walk there in the early morning or twilight to see the mist roll in. http://www.nps.gov/ozar/planyourvisit/big-spring.htm The nearby town of Van Buren offers: - a nice Lodge for those who want a nice dinner and/or whose idea of camping is air conditioning, nice beds, and tv - the local ice cream spot called The Jolly Cone - the local cafe, The Floatstream Restaurant, for your typical small diner food and a pretty okay breakfast - various small shops to stock up on essentials: beer, sunblock, souvenir tshirts, snacks, replaceable float shoes and swimsuits, intertubes, gas, fishing bait, etc. - and a whole lot of other small town amenities The water is spring fed. So it's super cold and clear - perfect for a hot summer's day! The Current has a pretty decent current, with nice deep water and wading shallows dotted with periodic gravel bars. It's great for intertubing and canoe trips. Various campgrounds and businesses offer rentals and trips with pick up and drop off options (2, 4, 6 hour floats, or even multiple day trips). Check out the area and find YOUR favorite spots and recommendations. It will probably become one of your favorite places on Earth too!
