Just got back from a great experience with this charter boat and let me tell you, all the…read moresuperlatives for good (wonderful, superb, amazing, delightful, etc.) apply. I was on a 3 day, 2-night live-aboard dive trip to the Flower Gardens, and the boat had essentially a full regimen with ~31 divers. The landscapes (West bank, a rig, and over at Stetson), the weather, and the wildlife (a few sharks, some really friendly sea turtles, eels and stingrays, oh my!) were all really neat, but it was the crew that really makes this organization worth visiting. The tank filler (Gary, I think) had his hands full with keeping all our tanks full, helping us adjust our rigs, and just giving us some good background on the dive sites. The dive masters (Brandon and JT) were helpful, well-informed, and super cheerful. The captain kept us in stitches with some good humor as we trudged through the necessary drills and information sessions, and the galley crew was phenomenal. I don't imagine it was easy feeding the 35+ people on board, but they prepared delicious, copious food-- if you went hungry, it was on you. Sleeping quarters were a mite tight, but that's to be expected. With 31 divers, the dive prep area was a little tight, but everyone was really great. Overall, the crew makes you feel welcome and does everything they can, the facilities are comfortable, and the experience is great. If you get a chance to dive the Flower Gardens, you should check out the Fling.

It is not easy to feed 35 people, but Wendy just magically prepared all the delicious food/desserts. Bunkers were a little bit tight but the crew tried everything they can to make you feel comfortable.

The overall quality of instruction is atrocious, it's not an over exaggeration to say they trained…read moreus to not survive under water, instead of actually being a proficient, and safe, diver. Their DM candidates they had helping the class were weapons grade narcissists who both admitted they did the same shore dive 50 times to meet the minimum dive requirements, they said this openly! We had one decent instructor, the other who finished the course was simply NOT good at being an instructor. I then decided on a quote for gear with them and when I went over it, line by line, they were quoting higher prices than what was listed inside their shop.... seriously? Finally, I took a brand new tank, new VIP and O2 cleaned, to get it filled by them, but they insisted on it being O2 cleaned, despite it having a well known shops VIP sticker on it stamped as O2 cleaned, they clearly want to scam you out of more money. We've since moved on in our SCUBA careers as technical dive masters and now venturing into closed circuit diving; however, it wasn't without having to basically start from ground zero with another instructor to retrain us. What made me go back and write a review about this from our experience years ago is we have run into divers certified through them on the boats here in South Florida and they suffer from the same garbage training. My best advice is to avoid this place, in fact just avoid all SCUBA shops in Texas and train somewhere in Florida where diving is more prevalent and you have higher quality instructors to choose from.
