I was in Roskilde today and needed a snack after visiting the Viking Museum and Roskilde Cathedral. The weather outside was so dreadful and when I saw this place, I immediately ran in to escape the weather.
The inside is so cozy and not very big either. There are 5 tables here and can fit maybe 10-15 people max.
When J showed up, and older gentleman was finished, so he let me have his table.
Lady batista was so kind to me and I ordered a flat white and a slice of apple pie with whipped cream on the side.
She brought me my flat white and the pie to my table.
Another family sat down next to me at the next table and everyone was very sweet and smiled at me.
I couldn't understand anyone here as they were all speaking Danish.
Let me tell you about the apple pie, that was just delicious! Not that sweet but very flavorful and the whipped cream was amazing, not sweet at all, wow!
Coffee was fresh and good.
When I was almost done, another older couple walked in and I wanted to finish up so they could have somewhere to sit. The barista actually made it a point to say to me, "no rush," as in she wanted me to stay.
I was finished anyway and needed to get on the road to drive to my next destination, so I gave up my table and when I walked out, the older gentleman thanked me for the table and wished me a happy new year.
Now, I think I know what the word "hygge" means and today I felt it on this cold, wet, windy day in Roskilde.
Thank you Kaffeekspressen for warming my heart and soul. It will be a memory I cherish for a long time to come. Thank you for making me feel welcomed in your country.
